+ WarOfTheWorlds

Watched War of the Worlds today. It's another collaboration between Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg and it's a sci-fci adventure of Ray Ferrier who fights to survive when the aliens attacked Earth. It was pretty exciting at the start as the show goes to explore the unknown. You can feel the fear and confusion among the people of the strange happenings in their neighbourhood. Then we've Ray's daughter who keeps screaming throughout the show. In all, the movie ended pretty awkwardly for me and it did left quite a few movie-goers questioning about the show. I overheard this conversation between 2 guys on the escalator. This is what he said,"How come the laser manage to vapourise the people but not the clothes?" Haha.

Done with reading a great book by Daniel Keyes. This book, which is a winner of both the Hugo Award and the Nebula award, is about how a dumb person became smart through science. The story is written in the form of 'Progress Reports' by Charlie Gordon on his thoughts and feelings. Come to think of it, it's something like blogging. haha. I recommend this read if you've the time. Borrowers can contact me :)

+ Heel-side Edge and Toe-side Edge

Finally made my way down to Snowcity for a try out session. After donning on a pair of pants, a windbreaker, a snowboarding shoe and with a snowboard in my right hand, i was ready for the try out. This lady, Y, taught me the basics of snowboarding; parts of the snowboard, moving around and finally, how to snowboard. It's about -3degrees in the snow chamber and what greeted me was a 2 storey slope of abt 30-40metres in length. At the side of it was a conveyor belt that brings you back to the top of the slope.

Equiped with skateboarding skills when i was much younger, i managed to accomplished my basics within a short time, thus allowing me to save on the lessons. I practiced both heel-sided and toe-side leaf maneuvers down the slope. What this means was to practice going down the slope like the movement of the leaf, going left right left right, using my heels or toes to control the speed. My next lesson would be to link this 2 maneuvers and i'm done with my lessons. It was rather fun, and i kept going on and on for more than 2 hrs, although i wished that the slope had been much longer.

Think i might just do this seriously and get some equipment. I'll probably be going on a snowboarding trip with Skiventure early August. Till then, i hope someone could get me a beannie! My ears freeze when i'm in the chamber. heh :)

Question: Are you are regular or a goofy?

A regular puts his left foot in front whereas a goofy puts his right foot in front.
I'm a regular!

Welcome adrenaline-seekers!! "Under the sea, under the sea, Darling it's better, Down where it's wetter...." taken from Under the sea (The Little Mermaid). You've guessed it, this series is about Scuba-diving.
Scuba-Diving
I just got back from a diving trip over the weekend. Eleven of us made our way to Pulau Aur which is about 65km to the east of Mersing. This island is surrounded by 3 other islands; P. Dayang, P. Lang and P. Pinang. This is the first time that I was staying on this island. For my previous 2 diving trips, I stayed on the opposite island, P. Dayang where the beach area was much bigger for activities such as volleyball. This "Weekend diving" spot is very popular with Singaporeans who make their way down every weekend between the period of mid-March to mid-November to dive. I stayed over at Atlantis Bay where it holds 10 beds to a room with 2 toilets.

For the uninitiated, you can start learning diving at one of the diving operators. There's 2 diving organisation that i know of that certifies you; PADI and NAUI. You start of with pool and theory lessons before doing the actual dive. After which you'll be certified as an Open Water Diver. Next up is the Advance Diving certificate which allows you to do night dives. There are many different levels of certification and you can check them out at either organisation.

I managed to see fish such as lion fish, trigger fish, puffer fish and schools of fish and many more. Haha. Basically, you've an "Eat, Shi, Dive" lifestyle for the weekend which is simply SHIOKKKKK! I want to go dive again, hopefully soon. Maybe to Tioman or even Thailand. Give me my flippers!!!! :)

If you can't figure out what the title means, you'll know the answer by looking at the picture below. This is one show you've got to watch. It's the nicest batman series. Batman Begins is about how bruce wayne became batman. Corny lines aside, it did well to portray how he returned to Gotham to fight crime, unlike Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Singapore was mentioned twice in the movie to make it more realistic, just like the rest of the gadgets that he used. He is a normal being without any superpowers. You go catch the movie and find out more yourself

Welcome adrenaline-seekers!! This 2nd parter is on rollerblading. Now that I've, ahem, just gotten my blades C:, I could start blading. Haha.

I've been wanting to get a pair for ages, and patience has paid off. I bought this K2 Skate XP 6.0 from Skateline as they are having a sale (The Great Singapore Sale). I've followed the prices and this is a really good buy for a pair of good blades. It's selling at $268 now, but was $400plus previously. This 2004 model has a transfer speed of 4.0 (meaning it can travel faster) and it's available for both men and women.

I'll start my practice soon, as i could hardly stand up properly now *blush*. If you're ever at ECP few weeks from now, I'll be the one that zooms past you ;)

May i cause turbulence as i zoom past..Vrro o o m m m m

+ Let'sGoLatin!

A few of us shopped for food at Carrefour at PS in the late afternoon. We bought sushi, pastries, 2 small pizzas and some fast food from LJS and BK before we rushed down to Botanic Gardens for sizzling salsa music by Ireson, a band compromising memebers from Mexico, Colombia and Singapore.
It was really crowded when we got there, probably a few hundred people. All spread out on the slightly concaved field were floormats, groundsheets of all sorts of colours. You'll see families having a meal, couples sharing an intimate moment, groups of friends laughing and kids all over the 'shop' playing balls, with their dogs, soap bubbles.....
We sat near a tree (i've no idea what it's called) with our food layed out. We couldn't see the stage from where we were, but we enjoyed the music while munching away. This went on for more than an hour before the night falls. It's cool (actually it was pretty humid, suggest you wear light clothing) to hang out here, but we've to come earlier next time. There might be more of such events organised by SPH (Nope, they didn't call me for an interview, dam/\/) in future, so do look out for it. ;)

Look out for pics!

If you've read the sunday lifestyle section (5th june), you'll come across the article "Down but not out". Here's an extract taken from the ex-CEO of HP, Carly Fiorina when she was invited to speak at an American university to graduates. I hope it inspires you as much as it does for me. :)

Carly Fiorina

"..What you are is God's gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to God.."

"..We should be motivated by our own sense of possibility. We should be motivated by our own sense of accomplishment. We should be motivated by what we believe we can become..."

"..people asked me for career advice, what i always tell them is not to give up what you have inside...
..Don't be someone you're not , don't be less than you are, don't give up what you believe, because whatever the consequences that may seem scary or bad, they are much better than the consequences of selling your soul..."

"..This is my life. I can do what i want..."

"...When you challenge other people's ideas of who or how you should be, they may try to diminish and disgrace you.
You can spend a lifetime resenting the tests, angry about the slights and the injustices. Or, you can rise above it.
People's ideas and fears can make them small - but they cannot make you small. People's prejudices can diminish them - but they cannot diminish you.
Small-minded people can think they determine your worth. But only you can determine your own worth.
At everystep along the way, your soul will be tested. Every test you pass will make you stronger.
But let's not be naive. Sometimes, there are consequences to staying true to what you believe. But as long as you understand the consequences and accept the consequences, you are not only stronger as a result, you're more at peace..."

"..everyone possesses more potential than they realise..."

"..Living life defined by your own sense of possiblility, not by others' notions of limitations, is the path to success...
...What you are today is God's gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to God. He is waiting for that gift right now. Make it something extraordinary..."

What i say:"Change your mindset, but first, change your belief system."

Welcome adrenaline-seekers!! This is a debut series of AdrenalineRush. Today i bring you the sport snowboarding. It's something i've been wanting to do for quite some time, but what i lack is the $$$ *ka-ching*. Well, you might be asking. "Then what abt the snow?". haha.

You've got me there! NOT! You can actually snowboard right here in SG!! Where? SNOWCITY! Yeah. Right here, you can take up not only snowboarding lessons but also skiing too, whichever your preference. Skiventure is the only snowboard and ski school on this island at the equator. Even if this island has no natural resources, no oil, no gas, but it still managed to bring all these in, so what about snow? haha
Anyway, interested parties do let me know as i hope to join them someday. Hopefully be able to join their organised snowboarding trips to other countries. Kool!
