 HaPpY BiRtHdaY to Chay Chay

Hard to believe that Chay is already 15 years old.  He has grown up quite nicely.  I really have to look up to him now....

How did this little boy....

become this young man????

It if weren't for the eyebrows, I wouldn't even recognize him as the same person.

He loves technology with his Iphone and Ipod but, he also really likes retro things like record players, "boom boxes", and polaroid cameras...and so that's what he got for a birthday cake.

(...weird that those things are "retro" because those were new when I was young)

The lightening of the torch took Chay by surprise.

Going...

 Going....

Gone...

After we went out to eat, relaxed and then ate cake and ice cream, Chay asked Nicole to help him study for his Learner's Permit.
He wanted to get it on his birthday but because of time constraints, he agreed to go the next morning.

  AND he PASSED!
(I need to get a picture of him with his permit....)

When we made a spontaneous trip to Picture Butte during the boys Spring Break, Grandma made the boys an early Birthday cake...a birthday cake from Grandma makes a birthday even more special!
Blade was so excited for Grandma to make him a cake - and she didn't disappoint!    The only way it could have been better is if the boys could have eaten more cake before we left, and trust me, Chay can eat ice cream and cake all day long!

I know that when I was growing, it was a special day to wake up on my birthday and have a birthday cake waiting for me on the table...and every year there was one waiting for me until I left for University.  And then my first year at BYU I was amazed when on my birthday, there was a cake delivered to my door!

Well, Chay has been driving around.  First around "This is the Place Monument" after hours, then around the driving course at Highland High, and then around the University and the Avenues.
Dave took Chay driving around the City...I'm not ready for that yet!  Chay was even alittle surprised when Dave handed him the keys. Chay's words to me when he got home, "that was scary..."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY  TO  BLADE

It's hard to believe that my little boy is already 7!  It doesn't seem that long ago that I was stunned surprised with the news I was pregnant.

He definitely has a strong mind of his own but still likes to know that I'm close by and I'll hear his voice  regularly throughout the house saying, "Mom... I love you".

For his birthday dinner he picked Chinese Gourmet.  No pictures with the sign or inside but, here's one in the parking lot.

Blade wanted Bey Blades for his birthday.  They are tops that spin and the last one spinning wins...it's an updated version of a game we had as kids.  Even with all the technology, there's no beating the classics...

...I wonder what he wished for....

This is the second cake I made for the birthday party on Saturday.

(I'll be honest, the fondants were giving me a very stressful time.  I tried a new recipe...it didn't work well, used store bought for the first cake, and then used a recipe I used years ago and used that for the second cake.  As you can see, it required patch work but, that added texture....)

It was a rock climbing party.

Nicole wanted to know if that was my idea or Blade's (I'm sure she asked because both Nicole and Chay have had a rock climbing party).  I did suggest it to Blade long ago and when it was his birthday, he reminded me that he was going to have a rock climbing party.
(That's my story and I'm sticking to it)

The party help that was very busy texting throughout the party.

Another song of Happy Birthday and making of a wish.
I can't tell if he's happy or not.

At least she's good for one thing...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
....and then some....
I would say Merry Christmas but that has come and gone so Happy Holidays it is.
It was great to see and talk with Mom and Dad on Christmas! Thanks to Doug for all the great things that he does.
Before I get to the Christmas pictures, a few pre-Christmas pictures.
Blade picked out a hat that he really wanted, and of course it was a great deal, and wanted a photo shoot as soon as we got home.
I thought he was working the cap quite well, I would buy it (hey, I already did).
The beginning of December meant 3 Advent calendars for Blade and Chay. Chay was picking the chocolate calendar and Blade was doing the Lego ones, then it was all Blade.
It kept him busy.
The hands of an active 6 year old boy....
I needed pictures for Auntie K and quickly took some on Nicole's camera but then the battery died and she didn't know where her charger was so I took some on mine. But thinking that mine wouldn't compare to her high tech camera I didn't even consider mine.
But there were some decent ones. (I need to send something to Auntie K). There's still no family picture thus, no Christmas card this year. That hasn't happened for a long time.

Then it was time for the annual Live Nativity in the Glenn by our house.

The camel is alway an amazing sight.

I wanted to capture Chay and Blade in front of an amazing partially frozen stream but I couldn't figure out the camera fast enough to get the background and foreground to appear...so I captured it in TWO shots.

....loses the effect alittle but I still like the little waterfall.

Blade started playing basketball for the first time. He's enjoying it. There is a practise once a week and a game and skills are practised but the basic rules and terminology of the game are not really discussed...makes for an interesting game. But it got better with the second game.

I bought a new area rug from Costco and it is so soft. Blade said that he wanted to sleep on it since it was so soft. Little did I know that he was very literal about that. When I woke up the next morning, this is what I found.
...so cute...

The next few pictures are not so CUTE but they are indications of what we do in our free time.

Chay does so many (weird) things with his nostrils, some things I know that I don't know about, and it's best that way.
Here he is inhaling and holding gumballs...that's some suction going.

And Blade couldn't let Chay have all the attention so he joined in.

...I'm so proud of them...

And...while Nicole is asleep, the boys will play...

On Christmas Eve, I had the kids play the "right left game" for the first time.

They each started with a gift and then I read a version of 'The Night Before Christmas" with the words right and left in it and each time "right" or "left" is read, they had to pass the gift that way.

They actually ended up with the gifts that I had intended for them.

An acquaintance of mine, gifted me with a dog Scentsy (a home sales company that sells home fragrances) that has a spiced apple cider scent inside. As soon as Blade saw it he loved it and I found this cute site.

Time to put out milk and cookies for Santa!

Chay has always wanted a pet monkey and this is as close as he'll get to owning one!
This straps to his shoulder and talks, waves, burps (or farts?).

Nicole is great with locos and so this was the picture game for her. We played it on Christmas and it was alot of fun. Dave won by a long shot because he was getting the easy cards and car cards...

Chay got a gift from all the grandparents and parents in his life.

A perfect gift for Chay. He didn't disappoint with his reaction to the shirt. And he did wear it on Christmas Day but, not prematurely....

Blade received an IPOD touch from all the Grandparents and parents in his life...

And you all know what Nicole received from all the Grandparents, parents and Santa.

While we were outside waiting for Nicole to return after she took off in her car, this adorable ball of fur showed up in the front room.
"Aiko" was in her kennel in the room and the boys didn't even notice. Chay walked past it numerous times and then was sitting in a chair and then finally noticed it and exclaimed "what is that!" and then jumped up and went over to it. Luckily I have it recorded! Chay said until he watched the recording, he thought that he had calmly got up and walked over.

Blade was the only one who made sure we took the traditional picture with all the Christmas gifts!

Aiko likes to be by people. She also loves my new carpet that I was concerned about her being on (I didn't want her to pee on it). We've been lucky so far, no accidents in the house.
She was sleeping on the corner of the rug and then woke up and moved over by sleeping Dave...ahhhh, so cute.

PUPPY LOVE for Chay!
I want to get this posted so I'm not proof reading, if there are errors let me know, just mention "proof read" and I'll know to correct.
Happy New Year!
