Worst New Year's Eve to date..

Ya this is officially my worst new year's eve to date.

Spending it all alone at home...

My family will probably be back in Singapore very late tonight?

First time I am all alone on a New Year's Eve...


Fl asked me to join them for countdown...dont see the point in it though.

Town will be crowded like hell...go there to jostle with everyone just to countdown and maybe see some fireworks?

No thanks...NDP has better fireworks...and I go there every year anyway...


Yup...so its gonna be a lonely new year's eve...


Haha today half day again..given by CO.

Had an activity today at ecp...

A run/walk of 4.5km or 3km...

So Ii arranged to meet Darren at 7am...so that we could catch a bus and meet Jason...and probably reach there at 7.30am...

Lol but Darren was late...by 30mins

Sumore I reached there early wor....so waited 45mins for him...longest I waited for a guy...lol

So in the end we cabbed down lo...

Picked Jason up along the way...

Met up wif chief and wei liang at ECP...

Then started the event lo..

Haha we were doing the walking route, but decided to run..

So we finished it in like..30mins

lol...then went to siglap for breakfast...and came back.

Haha now still adapting to office life? So it may take awhile before I can start planning my time again...

Are powerful tools to make peace or create discord.

Depending on how you piece your sentence together, it could mean very different things.


I'm sure most people had experienced misconceptions before.

I could safely say that most, if not all misconceptions, could be attributed to the wrong usage of words.


The sentence structure is a very delicate thing. It could be used to expressed many different things, among it tone and attitude being the most important.


Those that took the A levels, maybe even the O levels will know how tone and attitude will affect your essay.

A same essay could be structured in such a way that it's submissive, while another essay could be structured in a way that it's provocative.


So next time you want to say something, no matter how trivial it is.

Process it through your brain. Ensure that your language structure is such a way that it does not breed misconceptions.


Ok...having said that.

Of course there are other sources that breed misconceptions, though they are all less common.

Nevertheless, I will state another one of it in this blog..


The 2nd reason is due to ASSUMPTIONS

Yup. Never allow people to assume, especially when there's more than 1 party involved.

Leaving many assumptions to many people. is like sitting under a hornet's nest, waiting to get bitten


Now, some of you will thinking that I'm not practising what I preach, cause the previous post has assumptions in it.


Well, it's intentionally made to be, to serve a different purpose.

Back from chalet

3 days 2 nite chalet at downtown east yesterday....Super shagged
lol..

First nite was BBQ. As usual, did fire, some BBQing...then went to rent bike for the guys

It was getting late. so I had to go down wif my bike first to help them rent..
But it was so freaking dark..then got these weird sounds everywhere...

At first I didn't know what was it. Then I rode past a drain, and theres a freaking huge sound. Nabei scared the shit out of me...

Turned out to be frogs. Like alot of them all around the park croaking...

Then so freakign dark, until I couldn't see the road was flooded...so just rode through la.. KNS

Rode through half-way, water up to my knee already, and the bike got caught in the mud....

So detour around, heng the shop haven close...

So the guys got their bike...then slacked around awhile before going out to cycle. But damn unlucky la...at first Yik Jiun bike leaking air, so wanted to go petrol station. Then on our way there I think I rode over a pin or something. Fuking tire puncture...
zZz. No choice lo...have to turn back. Then the 3 of them rode on.
Feels stupid pushing a bike lol...
So went back to the room, play mahjong lo...
Play whole night sia..until like 6.30am...
Then they all went to sleep...so I went home also lo...push the bloody bike home again...
Reached home...ask maid to go buy mac. By the time she return I was already asleep in bed lol..
Woke up eat, then go back to bed...woke up abt 11am.


Then headed back to chalet....went ehub arcade awhile...
Then BBQ again lol...but this time with limited supplies....in the end alicia's sister have to give us some more charcoal and food hahaha

Went home tt nite...if not today prom sure like zombie...


But now muscle aches everywhere lei wah lao..especially the shoulders...carry the stupid bike la =.=

But life ain't perfect. Accepted that long ago, so I have no right to complain.

Singapore dont own it's citizens an tertiary education!

Been reading EDMW just now, and stumbled upon the thread of universities admissions, with a newspaper report stating that 50% of students who qualify for a local university gets at least 1 offer, and FT admissions are capped at 20%.

Of course such a topic will generate many comments and debates la...partly due to the vagueness of the article.

Well I think that qualifying, does not mean getting all passes for A levels, or a 3.3 GPA for poly?

I think qualifying in a sense, is based on the overall cohort of the year?

Which means for last year cohort, qualifying would probably mean straight B's for JC, and a GPA of 3.5 for polys.

After that, people directed their attention to what happens to the other 50%.

Most would say they went overseas, or private unis.

Therefore people once again asked, why should these locals be denied a place in their country university and that place be given by to a foreigner?

One guy commented that university admissions is a zero-sum game, 1 more place to foreigner equates to 1 less place for locals in the universities.

That brings me to my next point...

The country has no obligation to provide tertiary education for the masses.

And the government knows it. Why you may ask? Isn't it better for a country to have many uni grads?

Well think again.

Universities are considered the highest educational institutions in a country. Thus, it would make sense that only the cream of the crop of the population would be able to enter an univerisity. Furthermore, the appeal of an uni grad, is because they are in short supply, thus employers have an incentive to hire them.( Ok though that is now changing, and may soon be an invalid argument)

Thus, if university admission is open to the masses, with the suddent influx of degree holders, the value of the degree in Singapore would drop. Afterall, whats the difference bewteen u and the other guy with the same degree?

Thus this would lead to overqualification of our workforce, and blue-collared jobs would be left un-filled.

I am sure some people will view what I jsut said as elitism rite?

Wake up people. Call it elitism if you want, but those are reality.

Want to get into university? Jolly well work your butts off, and get your results.

Having a GPA of less than 3.5 is not acceptable for university btw, if your wondering. So I dont see a reason why all these people should be whining about FT taking up slots in the universities.

If the FTs are more capable than you, I don't see a need to give you a place just because you're a Singaporean, while he's frm PRC.

Isn't that how way things work in the workforce as well.

So it's better now to wake up and realize this.

Nonsensical Peitition against SBS fares for poly students

Eh sure that most of u heard about the recent peition in a bid to lower fares for poly students.

On the basis that both poly and jc students are around the same age, and therefore the poly students ought to have bus fares rivalling that of the jc student, which is 45 cent per bus trip.

I mean what a groundless argument. So what if they are the same age as jc students? It doesnt mean that they should pay the same price as a jc student, because of one and only 1 argument.


The way the institutes are classified.

JCs,secondary schools and ITEs are classified under secondary institutes. Thus they are eligible for transport concession.

On the other hand, Polys and Universities are classified under tertiary institutes.

Therefore, since polys and jcs belong to different categories, isn't it fair that they have different fares for buses? Take the universities for examples. They do not have concessions as well. But do they make a big fuss about it?

No.
Why>

Because they know that they are receiving education of a higher order, just like the polytechnics.

Lets face it, a poly diploma is far more valuable than an A lvl cert.

Although the A lvl cert is what gets you to the university and at that time, your degree will be worth more than a poly diploma.

See how this works??

If still not convinced, look at the school fees between JCs and Polytechnics.

Why are polytechnics fees much higher than the JCs?

Thats because the type of education they are receiving are much more advance, thus being called a tertiary institute. Since you're learning higher order skills, isn't it common sense that your lecturers and tutors will be paid higher? Thus the polytechnics course fees are so expensive.

Ok enough debating haha...conclusion : If u opt to go to a poly, then be prepared to pay higher transportation fees, as polytechnics are offering u skills that are far more useful compared to a JC, and the argument that transport fares need to be based on age does not even stand, because every one has different learning abilities, some slower, some faster. Thus computing transportation fares on ages alone is not viable.

Fun while it lasted.

I could feel myself having burnout..yea its the same feeling I felt during my O's.

It ain't as serious now, but I know I'm gonna break if I continue pushing.

Know your limits.

It's so contradictory....

On 1 hand u know u should take a breather...go out and relax abit, but on the other hand u keep thinking about the precious time lost when u decide to slack.

Haha graduated yesterday...






Time really flies...I know it's kinda cliche, but it really felt just like yesterday when I stepped into SR....and now I graduated!





Haha our last event befor the A's le...





We have went past the numerous hurdles, now comes the wall...



How many of us will make it pass the wall and see the doors of university?

After graduation, I are really on my own now...




My teachers have given me all the support and help they could give, and even I could see that some of them are really tired.

Haiz...I dont know what's happening...My gp grades seems to be falling

I have to buck up...find back my train of thought no matter what...

I won't have the help of my tutor, he needs to help other people who could use the help...

I shall not disappoint myself. I know I have the stuff inside me, but I just have to find it again...

Revision has been well, target of now is 1 paper of each subject( except computing and gp)
per week...need to spend more time on gp to get back my thinking....computing should be ok for now.


Physics is the only worrying thing..tried to do other school prelims paper, but they are very hard...I need something easier...

K feeling quite stressed over gp now...

It seems I lost the ability to think critically...

My analysis not as sharp as before...and bombed my 2 essays.

Maybe its because those essays were topics I dont like..so I want to take tomorrow prelims2 as a gauge on whether I had really lost it...

Haiz...so now I just have this feeling of uncertainty...

those 2 essays I bombed really made me lose confidence in my GP.


Please let me get my confidence back tomorrow!!!

Ferrari head says F1 humiliated by Singapore race

MILAN, Sept 30 - Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has poured scorn on Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, saying the "circus" track and the use of the safety car had been humiliating for Formula One.

Formula One's first night race drew rave reviews from participants and onlookers, including the sport's delighted supremo Bernie Ecclestone, but was one to forget for the Italian team.

Brazilian title contender Felipe Massa had his race ruined by a bungled pit stop while faltering world champion Kimi Raikkonen crashed near the end.

"When we race on tracks which should be used for the circus, anything can happen including the spectacle of the Safety Car," Montezemolo was quoted as saying in Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

"All this is humiliating for F1 and it is an aspect I want to talk about with the other teams in the next few weeks."

Singapore saw two safety car interventions, the first of which turned the race upside down and contributed to Spaniard Fernando Alonso's unexpected victory for Renault.

Montezemolo, appointed this month as the first chairman of the Formula One Teams
Association, said before the race that street circuits and the lack of overtaking opportunities were not the right way forward for the sport.

Ferrari's failure to score any points in Singapore meant McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, third behind winner Fernando Alonso, extended his championship lead over Massa to seven points with three races left.

Finn Raikkonen is out of contention but Montezemolo still sounded confident.

"We have the best Ferrari, Massa is the best. I expect... Raikkonen to show he is world champion in the remaining races, to help Massa, to race for the good of the team and to finish in front of the McLarens," he said.

The team president also backed the mechanics who gave Massa the green light during a pit stop despite the fuel hose still being attached to the car as he sped away.

"We have extraordinary mechanics who in other occasions have swung results our way. We must stay close to each other because Ferrari are always world champions and are still in the running to win," Montezemolo added.

Sore losers imo...I've been supporting Ferrari, but even I am ashamed by what he said la =.=

On race day, I went in, hoping to buy some McLaren merchandise...but dont have lei...seems like MaLaren isn't needing those funds, so in the end bought a Ferrari Cap...so nice k the cap?

Haha next time I'm going to buy Fernando, Renault's cap...haha He really got me impressed with his outstanding results...put back my confidence in renault =P..especially after a disapointing 2007 season at least..

Friends

Hasn't been going out since school started.



Maybe it's coz of the A lvls? and everyone is more concerned about studying.


But these few days i was thinking...how many friends do I really have?



Ok I have quite alot of friends....but among these...3/4 of them are like hi-bye friends, friends that I have because I could benefit from them. After we go our separate ways, thats basically the end of our friendship.



Of the remaining 1/4...3/4 are my good friends? Friends that I know that I could depend upon when needed. Friends who are willing to go the extra mile for me. Glad to say, most of these friends are my JC classmates?



The remaining 1/4 will probably be my best friends then. Friends that I look forward to seeing to in school. Friends that always brightens up my days when Im down. Friends who will always be there for me when I need them.

Of course theres no need to mention names here...u will know it you're my best friends =)



But sadly, among them...theres none that I would confide to?



Maybe it's just me, but I just dont like adding unneeded burdens to other people. Why should other people be bothered about my problems.


Oh well...I have survived 17 years without someone to confide to, so whats the big deal about another 10 years or so....

I guess overall Im quite satisfied with my results? Haha at least I know I am getting there

compared to my O lvl prelims...this is a huge jump I think


But I am seriously worried about physics now? Lol...I want to spend more time on it? But then I have to brush up on the other subjects to get the A's I need. So heres the deal. Spend more time on physics, less on other subjects. Or equal time to all, or give up on physics.

Ok I know the give up option is kinda out of the question? So its either placing more or equal time to physics...

Went for family BBQ yesterday. So boring la omg....so many cousins didn't turn up. In the end chatted wif Siyu and XiaoWei.
Haha Siyu really made me think twice about aiming for a E for physics?? Lol....so now I felt guilty that I didn't study as much as I could have. =S

Oh well, I'll not come home so early from this week onwards! Haha I went home straight after school ended last week to experience whats it like going home so early =S but I guess it's time to stay back to do work now. Area of concern now is still physics omg...

I think the other subjects are relatively fine.

Computing/GP are 2 of the subjects that I could almost set at ease already?

2 of my most confident subjects.

Perhaps I need to continue to do essay plans and compre for GP, but that won't take alot of time...

Econs and Maths are 2 subjects that could use some brushing up on, though I have to say I was very pleased with my econs grades this prelim?

Content for econs are almost done, need some brushing up..which wouldn't take much time. The rest will be on practice?

Currently, I am still doing alot of Maths? Like most of the time when I sit down to study, it will be to do maths. I think I spend the longest period of time doing Maths. I think I need to split that up with physics now....yup! That shall be my plan! haha

Ok nothing more to say? Kinda expected this. Only comforting thought was that I improved compared to mid years.

No improvement at all!!

It's the same mark I had for mid years...

Well, at least I felt good about my essay. 19/30 for content, the highest I ever had.

But paper2 was where all the disappointment came from.

I think I was mentally drained by paper2?

I was kinda forgetting the key skills and stuff, end up lost alot of marks.


Oh well...time to buck up. Revision will start by this week, after getting all my results back and getting back to the A level mentality.

4 more weeks to Prelims2. About 2 mths more to A Levels.

Time to throw in everything I got.

Haha yea...finally into post prelims!!


Haven really touched the books after prelims? Just did the GP paper on tuesday...


Probably gonna start today. Yea, cant slack too much hahha!! Must get back into the A level mode, and a normal routine
