Virtual Paintout-Guatemala

Image
For Sale Yay finished the pastel I was working on the other day. This was for the virtual paintout but I cut it pretty close to the end to get it finished. Love how green it is, but green is my favourite colour. I really need to figure out a way to deal with all the pastel dust. It gets everywhere and is going to stain everything soon if I don't find a way to contain it all. Here is a close up showing some of the details and the colours. I have a very loose pastel style that tends to look better from a few feet away so the colours blend together to create the final image. Linking up to Paint Party Friday :)

Whip-poor-will

Image
Left handed sketch #123 is a Nightjar but I usually refer to them by the name Whip-poor-will because I think its cute lol #124 is a Woodhouse's scrub jay , another bird I had never heard of before and a striking blue colour in the photos.

Scribble Picnic-Fox

Image
This weeks theme for Scribble Picnic is fox . I decided its been too long since I have done any low poly art so thought I would for this theme. I think it looks really cute. There are foxes around here but unfortunately they are usually dead on the road :(  And a close up showing how all the coloured triangles work together to create the right shape.

Very Green

An Inca Tern for left handed sketch #121, and a Batelour eagle for #122. These birds are a completely different colour when they mature, very striking. Working on a pastel and almost done. I had forgotten how much I like working with pastels, well besides all the pastel dust thats gets everywhere.

Sunday Sketches

Still using my left hand for these sketches and I realized the other day that I might not be able to continue with the left handed 365 sketches once uni starts again since final year is probably going to be pretty busy, (would love to continue but that probably wont happen). I will see if I can continue with them, but will at least continue during the summer. An Egret above for # 119 and a Grosbeak for #120

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
Old Man's War by John Scalzi My rating: 3 of 5 stars 3.5 stars fast entertaining read, interesting world building and aliens. I enjoyed it but wasn't left caring too much what happens and thats probably because the soldiers are so genetically enhanced they are not really human enough to care about. If you have read a lot of sci-fi you really can see how much old school sci-fi influenced the author but he updated the writing style and themes to more modern times. Finally friday

Image
(# 116) After a very grey rainy week we finally had some sun today which I hope stays around for the weekend but I doubt it since there is a music festival on this weekend and it never fails to rain when there is a big festival on. An Australian Galah for #117, love how pink the are but very loud things. I swear its an owl not an alien lol (#118) And here is a short random video from the other day and you can get a sense of the barking we have to deal with almost all the time in the car, the dog just gets too excited and has to bark! Scribble Picnic-Jars

Image
The theme this week was  "jars" and I had no idea at all of what to draw so didn't think I would get anything done for this week. I can't really remember what I was looking at or reading when I came up with this idea of a witch's apothecary full of jars and a few dragons. These are just rough sketches that need a lot of work. I need to put some more objects on the shelves and redraw the whole thing to be transferred onto better paper. Probably watercolour paper since I don't have time to colour this with coloured pencil. Boo

Another startled owl (left hand #114). Is almost impossible it seems for me to draw an owl with my left hand and not have it look really surprised, like its been goosed by surprise. A flying Heron (#115). There was one in some nearby trees the other day, wrong area for them to nest but they do fly around here every once and awhile. The amount of birds around here is great, there are a few barn owls I keep trying to spot, a lot of buzzards, the odd Golden Eagle, and of course Gulls and Rooks, so lots of  birds and bats. You hear bats a lot, was even dive bombed by one in the backyard lol

Good luck with the translation lol

Sunday Sketches

Image
Left handed sketch #111 of Great curassow , another new bird to me :) Gobble Gobble! I'm not a fan of turkey, never could figure out why people like it so much. A very simple looking parrot (#113), because I am having a problem with nerve pain in my hands and feet so tried to keep things simple. I have been referred to the pain clinic but there probably wont be much they can do and I don't want to take drugs that will make me either a zombie or high as a kite. The problem with a lot of the meds that are used to treat nerve pain due to MS is that the more you take so they work, the more you walk around like you are in a haze so you need to find that happy medium where you are not in so much pain but still awake lol Linking up to Sunday Sketches
