Invite

I made this invitation for my cute nephew Noah's birthday party. My sister sent me some ideas for inspiration and I was proud of the creation!

Warming up to Kevo

Macy is a mama's girl and daddy's girl. Andy's brother, Kevo, comes over to our house every Sunday for dinner. Even after 8 months, Macy still has stranger danger. But today she warmed up to Kevo. Maybe it was a combination of the iPad and Kevo's sweet arm hairs, which Macy loved. That girl is obsessed with hair.

New Headboard

Andy and I both dream of a dramatic, high headboard like this:

We currently have a headboard that looks like this:

I picked it up at a thrift store when I was single and recovered it a few times. It is basically made of card board and is falling apart.

We're too fond of the charming nook above the bed to cover it up and we don't have the hundreds or thousands it might cost to buy a tall headboard. So, we (read: he) set out to make our own tufted headboard.

Andy first built the wood frame to match the lines of our Z Gallery bedroom furniture. He primed it with a roller and sanded it and then spray painted it black for a beautiful finish.

Next, he laid out the pattern for the buttons and marked it on the foam and the masonite backing and drilled holes through both.

Next, he scored the foam in a diamond pattern. We got really thick foam so it would be extra luxurious to lean back on.

We covered upholstery buttons with the same stone-colored linen fabric that we used to cover the headboard. Then, he laid the fabric over the foam and laced the buttons through the holes.

When all the buttons were attached, he tightly wrapped the fabric around the back and stapled it down (that was the hardest part). It seemed like it would be a simple project, but the last few steps were a pain! We scotch-guarded the fabric and put it in place. I LOVE how it turned out. So plush and striking.

I don't want to put pillows on the bed and cover it up...

Barbie Girl

I totally bought Macy her first Barbie doll. What? She's 8 months old. But, she is also obsessed with my hair and has to hold it in her hands and rub it in her eyes to go to sleep. Just like some babies have a silky or blankie... but my hair? Since it's slightly uncomfortable for me, I decided to try a Barbie's hair and it seemed to be working fine until after just one day of "Barbie", she landed herself in the toilet.... (No, it's not the SUU van keys this time. Remember that?)

Andy went to get Macy out of her crib Sunday morning and when she saw him, she was so excited. She reached over and grabbed her Barbie's hair and started waving Barbie back and forth. Andy picked Macy and Barbie up and was going to bring them into bed with us but he stopped off in the bathroom. Just then, Macy dropped Barbie into the toilet.

Bye bye Barbie.

Macy + Gray + Pink = Irresistible

We went to Dancing with the Stars at SUU the other night and thought it was a good excuse to get Macy all dolled up. She wore this sweet little pink sweater jacket that was mine when I was a babe and was hand-knitted by my grandma "Nanny", who is turning 75 tomorrow!

This little doll is 8 months old today and I can't believe it.

(Unfortunately, she has spend the night throwing up so we're just trying to get her to keep down clear liquids, etc. Poor little birthday girl.)

She pulls momma's hair and da da's beard.
She is suddenly afraid of the vacuum.
She goes to sleep at 8:30 PM and wakes up at 6 AM which is great. Just not on Saturdays.
She loves story books.
She it getting good at voicing her opinion and letting us know what she wants and doesn't want.
She sits up, rolls everywhere and seems to prefer standing up next to a couch or low table.
She still loves sucking on those two fingers, but usually just does so when she's hungry or sad.
She is so observant; especially when we're in new places.
She has eyes and eyelashes that draw attention from everyone who sees her.
She has flawless, smooth skin.
She says "da" and "mmum".
She is everything to us.

Rub-A-Dub-Dub

I just had to capture cute Macy right after her bath.

And she just had to watch me snap the photo. She loves to watch her momma.

Custom Furniture

Andy has been making some custom furniture lately. Remember the kitchen table?

Well, the latest is this coffee table which is constructed from all reclaimed materials. It is a conversation-starter piece - it is made from the hood of a car, a 1977 Mercury Marquis to be precise. You can see a photo of that type of car here and here. I just love the creative construction. And he has so many more ideas for turning junkyard finds into custom, unique, recycled furniture.

Andy had a booth at the St. George Parade of Homes and the coffee table drew a lot of attention, along with all of his other fine work. This is his booth.

Andy's custom furniture is for sale. Contact us for details. Any takers?

Pitter-Patter

No, the pitter-patter isn't because Macy is walking. She isn't even crawling quite yet. But my heart is going pitter-patter for this designer I discovered at the St. George Parade of Homes: Alice Lane. These are photos from some of their homes I went through in St. George:

Drool, sigh, right?

Growing Macy

Macy has inherited the BlackBerry (she thinks). Look at the sweetheart chubbing out of her clothes. She looks so long here.

How does she still look classy even with prunes all over her face? I love those eyes.
