Weekend in review

Hey Pete, you said you wanted to live vicariously through me, so here's a recap of our Saturday...

The afternoon was spent at the Udvar-Hazy Center, the companion center to the Air and Space Museum in DC. It is this HUGE hangar with about a million planes in it. The first plane we saw was the Lockheed Blackbird, which was ENORMOUS. It was used by the Air Force for 24 years and it's last flight set a speed record when it was flown from LA to Washington, DC in 1 hour and 4 minutes. This one was my favorite because it had a skunk on the back. You laughed and called me crazy when I told you that skunk was one of my favorite scents. We walked down the ramp and saw engines from a bunch of different planes. I thought that they had really cool lines and symmetry so I took a bunch of pictures, like this one. We then saw a plane called an Okha. It was dropped from a Japanese bomber where a kamikaze pilot would guide it into Allied warcraft. I really liked the cherry blossom on the front, but I pretty much love anything pink. You liked it because it was Japanese. Whose side are you on anyway?! Speaking of Japanese, there was a camera/gun (I think) that had directions in Japanese. You could read it and I was pretty impressed. While up on the second floor walkway I took a bunch of self portraits. I'm pretty sure the security guard that was following us thought I was a total weirdo...although I in turn thought it was pretty weird that he was following us around. I know it's embarrassing when I'm stopping every 10 seconds to take pictures of myself, but I needed evidence that I was there, ya know, for posterity. There was a funny looking plane that was made out of car parts. That one made me laugh. Some of the planes had cool artwork like a devil, and scary teeth. There was a really cool sculpture called The Ascent outside of the building. I really liked it, so I took lots of pictures...some with me included (as evidenced by the self-portrait collage). After the museum we went to the mall for lunch at California Pizza Kitchen (in honor of your current residence) with my cousin Betsy. Crazily enough, our pizza was sliced in 5 slices instead of the usual 6. We never figured out exactly how they did it. After lunch we stopped into Barnes & Noble for a few books. I found Forever, by Pete Hamill. I wasn't really sure I wanted to spend the 18 dollars on a book but you had me convinced that it was well worth the price. I think that was the first time in a long time I've paid full price for a book. I can't wait to read it. We later went back to the mall with Abbie so she could buy birthday presents for her husband. We ended up in Ann Taylor, not for Jon of course, but so that Abbie could spend a good chunk of change on herself, and also so she could take a picture of me that could easily be used as blackmail. There was a big meteor shower that was supposed to hit the skies around 11:45. We drove out to Tara's house in Ashburn because we would have a better chance of seeing the showers in the wide open spaces out that way. Unfortunately Tara had watched the news and they said that there was a cloud cover so it wouldn't be visible. We were both pretty bummed. Thanks for nothing mother nature! Since we were already on our way, we decided to go eat at IHop instead where I ate my third dinner of the evening. Yikes! After we ate it was finally time end the day.

I had an AWESOME Saturday, probably the best I've had in a long time. Thanks for encouraging me to get out there and take advantage of what the coolest place in the US has to offer! Hope you had a good time too, let's do it again soon.

The Kiddies

I went to Utah last week and got to see my cutest niece and nephews. They are the cutest ever, and I'm pretty sure I'm their favorite aunt.

Exception to the Rule

I've said it before, but I only drink water and milk, that is unless I happen to drive by a Sonic, then I get to have a strawberry lime-ade. It's a good thing the closest Sonic is 4 hours away. If it was closer I'm afraid I'd be doing more drive-by's than necessary. Those things are AMAZING, especially after two months of no sugar!!

flexibility

My mom drew this picture of her finger to help my sister and I envision a ring she liked. It was then that I learned my mom has three knuckles on her ring finger (as illustrated in this artists rendering).

Halloween

I do realize that Halloween was weeks ago, but I'm just now getting to my pictures. I dressed up as a girl who wears too much eyeliner.

Me and Robin "aka Jake"

Me and Princess Claire

Batman "aka Matthew" and I

Katie the Kitty and I

Jake and I with his stash. I didn't eat any of it!

sucker

I don't know if you know this, but I'm a NASCAR fan. I've been to a race which was one of the coolest things ever and I even have a driver that I follow. If you know anything about NASCAR you know that it is a very advertisement heavy sport. The cars are plastered in the logos of their drivers sponsors, the drivers blatantly display their bottles of coke, pepsi or gatorade (whomever is paying the bills) every time they are interviewed on camera. A few months ago I was at the store looking for a marinade for the salmon I purchased. I didn't know which one to get...that is until I saw Kasey Kahne (my driver) staring back at me from the label of Lawry's Herb and Garlic Marinade. If Kasey Kahne says it's good, it must be good...so I bought it. Last week I was at Target, wandering the aisles aimlessly as always when I saw this...

I wasn't in the market for stain remover but I assure you that if I was, I totally would have gotten it. Again...if Kasey says it's good then it's got to be good. I'm highly impressionable!

Photographic Evidence

Remember when I told you about my grandma being in Life magazine? When I was visiting my Grandpa while in Utah last week I took pictures of the picture and accompanying caption, check it out. She's the pretty pilgrim in the middle:

You know what I just realized? This issue came out November 23, 1936, almost exactly 70 years ago. Crazy!

from the mouths of babes

While hanging out at my sister's house last night, she asked me if I wanted a shirt she had recently purchased but didn't want. It is a pseudo-wrap style so you definitely need to wear a camisole with it. I didn't have one on yesterday when I tried the shirt on. My little niece told me that the shirt wasn't modest and I needed to wear another shirt underneath. While I totally agreed with her I gave her a hard time, asking her why. She said that we shouldn't show our boobs. When I responded by saying I wasn't showing my boobs she started giggling. I asked her what was so funny and she said the word that she wanted to say was too funny and embarrassing. After some prodding she said "You can see your boob crack."

TSA regulations

While I will have to put my saber in my checked luggage, I'm relieved to know that I can keep my toy transformer robot in my carry-on.

Tomorrow will be my first time traveling by plane since the TSA have imposed their new travel regulations. I think some of the rules are ridiculous. Why do my 3oz or smaller liquids have to be placed in a quart sized ziploc bag? What's wrong with the gallon or sandwich bag?? Uugh!!

Phone Fun

I should probably spend more time watching the road instead of trying to make myself look like Harry Potter...
