Baylor homecoming and best friends

Since Keri always works weekends in the fall, it's never before been possible to take part in the Baylor fun at Homecoming. This year we went to the Homecoming parade and had our best friends join us!

Yet another bonus of living in Waco. Chad, Christi, and Cooper were here for the whole weekend and we had the best time together.

Christi and I got to go to Pigskin together and l we both loved being back on campus and in Waco Hall. So many good memories there!

We plan to make this get together a yearly tradition!

Cougars game 7

Game 7 was another away game. I'm so thankful that most of the schools in our district are less than an hour from home. We had lots of fun guests for this game. Clay drove up from Texas State, chad, Christi, and Cooper met us at the game, and Pop Pop surprised us by showing up in the first quarter. Cougars played well and won 42-24. We didn't get any pictures at the game, but here's one of Brock and the mascot from the pep rally.

New friends and wild animals

Doak started talking about a little boy in his class named Matthew on the first day of school. After the first few weeks went by, Doak started asking for a play date with Matthew. I had never seen the boy, much less met his family. But my sweet Doak was persistent, so I forced myself out of my comfort zone and contacted Matthew's mom. I'm so glad I did! We have loved getting to know Matthew and his whole family!

One day after school we went to their house. They live in a neighborhood in which the homes
have acreage. We pulled up and Addie went crazy over their chickens! We puttered around their yard and visited, then came in to decorate Halloween cookies-yum!

Our friend's neighbor has quite the menagerie: llamas, camels, donkeys, coatis, zebra, zonkey (zebra+donkey=zonkey), wild boar, goats, pigs, ostriches, huge tortoise, exotic birds, etc. We got to take a truck bed tour of his land and had an amazing time! Matthew's mom, Mrs. Laurie, brought carrots and apples for us to feed the animals.

I have a serious fear of big birds and the ostriches freaked me out! They tried to peck us!

Can you look at this without thinking, "it's Hump Day!"?

It was an unforgettable afternoon and we're so thankful for all of God's creatures and our new friends! 😀

Fal festival fun!

After Friday's game we slept in Saturday, ate a big breakfast, and got ready for the Fall Festival at Addie and Doak's school. The kids were so excited!

This super fun photo booth that perfectly captured our fun family!

Of course there were games and prizes, but mostly sugar. Lots of sugar!

A huge rainstorm blew in so it was time to run to the car and grab a quick lunch at Bush's. Keri finished work in time to join us! After lunch it was cousin fun time and the grown ups chatted, watched the Baylor game, and we're entertained by these cuties!

I'm so thankful to be a part of this great family!

Cougars game 6

Game 6 was played at home against a local area team. We enjoyed this game because we were joined by Amy, Bryan, Camryn, Makynna, Chad, and Megan. It was also Doak's first time to be a part of Bleacher Creatures. This is a program that lets elementary age boys go on the field and run some drills while the football team warms up. They also get to run through the teams tunnel and down the field. Doak had a great time! (No pictures yet)
The only down side of this game was the score: we lost 43-40 and threw an interception at the last second into the end zone. It was the kind of game you wish you could rewind and redo! We love our cougars though and will cheer them onto victory next game!

Making lemonade out of lemons

A few weeks ago we had a very unfortunate Thursday morning.
Neither Keri's truck nor my van would start. What are the chances? Through the help of some friends, the big kids made it to school on time. A tow truck came, and before loading our cars up, tried to jump them (we had tried earlier with no luck). My van started up but Keri's truck would not crank. So the truck got a nice, expensive ride on the back of a tow truck. Keri, Brock and I drove my car in and had a new battery put in the van in under 5 minutes. I then dropped Keri at work. I had already called my boss at the preschool who quickly found a sub to cover for me. So, now I had an unexpected day off. Brock and I decided to make the most of out it by taking a trip to our favorite park and crossing some big errands of our list a day early. Not a bad day after all! Oh and Keri's truck just needed a new battery too, thank you God for no huge repairs right now!

Character award

I got a call at the end of the first 6 weeks from Doak's teacher. She let us know that Doak was going to be honored at an assembly with a character award. He won an award for showing respect.

Keri and I made arrangements to miss part of work so we could be there. Doak got a certificate from the principal.

He also received a special pencil.

We are so proud of our big boy! Here he is with his wonderful kindergarten teacher, Mrs. S. Every parent wants their child to succeed and be smart, but two things we really stress with our kids are leadership and respect. We couldn't be happier that Doak won this award. Way to go Doak!
