I had been meaning to go cycling in Desaru for quite some time, so when I heard that my sister's colleagues were going for a spin on National day, I jumped at the chance.
Turned out that only three of us went: The couple, plus me. That morning, I woke up late. I guess I did not recognize the alarm from my new phone. I lost my phone on Wednesday night after Judo. Sad to say, I do not know how it was stolen from me. Was it snitched from my pocket, or did I leave it on the table for some one to swipe it away? Our memories are so flawed. Is there such a thing as perfect recall? Can it be trained? Do we only remember key events and fill in the rest using our imagination?
Anyway, because I was late, I made a mad dash to Tampines on my bike. Still managed to meet them at 7:15am. We then cycled over to Changi Village for breakfast before taking a bum boat to Perangan. Cost $11 per person + $2 for the bicycle. After about an hour's worth of waiting, we reached Malaysia and cycled on a more or less straight path down to Sungei Rengit. It was surprisingly crowded that day, with many Singaporeans there. We had to wait quite a bit for our food to come. After lunch, we cycled back to the jetty and had to wait really long for a boat. We took the last boat back. My advice would be to reach the jetty before 3pm if you do not want to risk being stranded.
Cycled back home after that. Fun times on the outer ring road system of Singapore.
Next time I go Desaru, I would want to stay over at a resort for a night or two.
