He said, 'Jack boy, it's all down to wastage. What you've got to understand is that what comes into the shop ain't what goes out. Whole art of butchery's in avoiding wastage. If a butcher could get cost on what he chucks in his waste-bin and his fat-drawer, he'd be a happy man, wouldn't he? He'd be laughing. If you take away the weight of the wastage from what you buy in and divide what's left into what you paid, that'll give you your real cost to set against your takings and don't you ever forget it. Bone'll cost you and fat'll cost you and shrinkage'll cost you and not having your cutlery ground'll cost you. And ending up, because of poor keeping or poor cutting, with lots of measly scraps of meat that aint fit to sell to no one'll cost you more than anything. You got to keep a constant eye on wastage, constant. What you've got to understand is the nature of the goods. Which is perishable.'

Just like life itself.

What resources I receive is not going to be the product I give. Now to say that the art of life is in avoiding wastage, that is a daring claim, but a just one. See, some things in life are important. Other things are not. If the trivial is ever going to benefit me, I would be happy - no, euphoric, even - because I then I would never be short. But the truth is, I indulge in unimportant activities that cost me. That cost me dear. What I am left with, because of poor management is a measly output that will never amount to anything.

I have to keep an eye on wastage.
That is the nature of life.
Which is perishable.

But Jack's not special, he's not special at all. I'd just like to say that, please. I'd just like to point that out, as a professional and a friend. He's just one of the many now. In life there are many differences, you make distinctions, it's the back seat for me from now on. But the dead are the dead, I've watched them, they're equal. Either you think of them all or you forget them. It doesn't do in remembering one not to remember the others. Dempsey, Richards. And it doesn't do when you remember the others not to spare a thought for the ones you never knew. It's what makes all men equal for ever and always. There's only one sea.

Please stay and chat for a while
How do you do?
Because this second is gone
What reason is there to smile

They say time waits for no man
Is there no doubt?
I have tried to escape this
Within the hourglass' sand

The universe eternal.
But who will know?
When we all must stop too far
from the end of the tunnel

Now think of what could happen
What would be next?
When called to meet the maker
Or attain desired Zen

Holding this thought as a start
Who then decides?
The future is mysterious
But for now I will depart

Lesson of the day:
Never use rhetorical questions unless the other party is already in agreement with you.

No fear.
No surprise.
No hesitation.
No doubt.

I am actually supposed to get some shut eye now; I need to get up slightly earlier tomorrow to revise for my Chinese spelling.

I can safely say that I have settled in my new college extremely well. I will have to readjust my time table, though. Sleep is very much important, if not to you, then to me. As I am typing this, my body feels lethargic and all too eager to recline into my bed.

I have made countless new friends. I mean it. I have lost count of the people I have acquainted myself with. Not that I bothered to keep track, anyhow.

My class is filled with a colourful bunch of people. I am thankful for all that they mean to me. They inject relief and humour into an otherwise mundane day. Much appreciation to you, for sharing your music with me, answering me some of my queries, and bearing with all my idiosyncrasies.

My school represents a big portion of my interests. It also an undeniable bigger portion of my life. I spend a lot of time in school. But have you ever thought, to live life just for the sake of living? Bacteria do it, plants do it, animals do it. They do not go around asking, what is the purpose of life? They live because, they are alive.

So does every thing lose their importance, if my paradigm shifts to a life of simply being alive? I would suppose so. I would not need to cultivate interests, pursue endeavours or chase dreams. But since I am bestowed with the ability to rationalize, to learn and to remember, I will harness this blessing and continue to paint the colours of my life.
