Since it made the front page of the local paper I guess it is ok to publish it here

This is a photo of some of the people for whom Basecamp3030 has been developed as a respite home. It was the old manse and a Foundation was formed between the church and those
with children who have handicaps and who know the great need there is for a place where people can be safely left in care.
The church has run a RAP Respite Activity Program for some years so this was the next step.
We have the Mayor of Wyndham looking sideways in the centre back of the photo. He spoke very well as he formally opened the project. We are only able to have "camps' or weekends available as funds are available at the moment and the 3030 is the postcode of Werribee.
It is on the road which forms the border between Werribee and Hoppers Crossing which is a fairly nebulous border at times.
My memory of the day will be colored by the after effects of 3.5 hrs of ribbon sandwich making and that was with a fabulous volunteer helper as well. We were tired cookies the next day but it was a nice chance to get to know someone whom I had not really met before then.

It is amazing how time helps things.

Does it look like a mess? No it looks like a drawer that is open after not being able to budge it for a couple of months.

You see the odd owner of this blog knew she needed a new tap, but put it off and twisted it into place until one day she saw water on the floor.

Oh bother she said as she wiped it up.

It was there again tomorrow.........

So we had to investigate....sore new knee and all. And we found that the cupboard under the sink was flooded and had to be emptied and then we got a new tap and left all the goodies out until we were having a dinner for 13 and so we had to put them back.

But the drawer was not going to open. We tried heavy Furi knives, we tried crowbar type screw drivers, then we tried patience.

But we unexpectedly had sit and sew at our place and we decided that a pkt of muffins was the go and the muffin tins were in that drawer.

What is that add about only a puffin muffin etc.??

Well we went for the two screw drivers and bit by bit we got the drawer open. We got everything out and we washed it and then put most things back. But we have left it open approx. 2" just to further facilitate the drying out process. After all summer is coming.

And yes the baby blueberry muffins were cute.

This week I think I heard myself commit to a New York Cheesecake, and there is that wonderful apple cake in the Second dinner party Woman's Weekly cookbook that I have been attempting to force myself to make again for years.

So strange when I would make things like this on such a regular basis once. As as for having bought biscuits or things you make out of boxes in the house......oh Martha dear.....not here.

How the mighty have fallen.

It does look much tidier now. I tried to find the cabinet maker who was wonderful but I could not seem to locate him. So I will leave it a few more weeks with air circulating.

We did finish the quilt for the opening

One of the lounge rooms in Basecamp 3030 (the postcode of Werribee)
a respite facility for handicapped Youth which has arisen out of
a RAP Respite Activity Program, run by the Baptist church
for many years. This is the old manse which has been renovated and
made suitable for its new purpose.
The opening was today Sept 15th '07

The quilt is a lighthouse fabric around the edges.....scrap bag fabric where
there are three different color saturation's as it came to the end of the run.
The darkest is the outside boarder, then there is a lighter one and then
the white is the lightest wash.

Posted by PicasaThe half square triangles were scraps I started to play with some years ago.

The days are getting longer

An afternoon nap is a must.
And a visitors lap,
well a good change of texture!

Last rose of winter or first rose of Spring?

Posted by PicasaSince it is now Sept 4th I guess we say first rose of spring.

My lovely climbing Ophelia which is one of the most

beautiful of roses.

I cut this but and lay it in a centre piece of blossoms and

soulangia magnolia in the middle of the dinner

table tonight. It did not do too well with the basket of rolls

which rested on it, but have put them in a bowl of water

and life is returning.

With 13 around a table or two, there was not much room

for floral decoration.
Magnolia buds tucked in amongst the climbing rose.
