PLACE VALUE!!

Howdy All!!!
Place value is always a tricky math concept to teach little ones.  We worked very hard on this objective this week.  The kids already had a sense of what it was all about because we have included a "place value" piece during calendar time every morning.  (You know the whole bundling straws thing!) But to bring it home I created giant pick up sticks using pieces of wood and a paint bucket.  On one side of the stick I simply drew 10 black dots.  On the other side I drew one red dot.  When the sticks are dropped we look at the "up" side and sort,  the tens together and the ones together.  We can then easily see the value of each place.
Writing down the value of each place was an important component.

After practicing whole group, the kids got to make their own "place value pick up sticks." They used popsicle sticks. After creating their own, they got to play with a partner. The kids loved having their own set!! :)

Coming up in writing, we will work hard on nouns, common, proper, and plural.
I have shared this little unit before, but I added a lot to it.

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by for a peek!!  I appreciate your interest!!  Have a joyfilled week! Don't forget to enjoy the journey!

Winter Olympics!!

Hello Everyone!!
They're almost here!!  The Winter Olympic Games!!  I love watching every part of every event!  The dedication and passion that each athlete displays is at times mind-boggling!  They are all winners just for being there!
I have gotten several e-mails asking if I would create a unit on the Olympics.  I had some time today to put a few things together.  This little unit includes some ELA activities using Tacky and the Winter Games by Helen Lester (Love Tacky!!),  6 math tub activities, and a hands on visual connection!  I hope you can use at least a portion of this!  I think I'm going to enjoy helping kids make this important world connection. Here are a few pics of the 45 page unit!

Okee Dokee!!  Got to run!! Making some yummo lentil soup and it smells like it's ready!!
Have a great week everyone!! As always, don't leave before leaving a comment! Is there something else you need?  Want? Questions? Concerns? I read them all!
Joyfully!

Reader's Theater and that Little Old Lady noun verb pack

Hello Everyone!
As promised I am back with a couple of little videos showing our mini reader's theater. Oh so fun, simple and sweet! Parents, I took video of all the kids, so stay tuned for future reveals!! :)
These little mini reader's theater scripts are in the Cinderella unit.  Scroll down for the link posted earlier this week.  Reader's Theater is great for building that confidence, fluency, teamwork, risk taking, stepping outside of the comfort zone, and so much more!!!

This coming week we will enjoy a discovery about nouns and verbs.  I've shared two packs before using the book The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything. I bundled them together and added a bit of extra practice on nouns and verbs.  Here are a few pics from the bundle.

Have a great weekend!!  As always, thanks for stopping by for a peek!!  And don't forget to leave a comment!!
Joyfully!

The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything! Not even nouns!! :)

Hello Everyone!
This week we will begin our study of nouns and verbs. I wanted to do a quick share of something my cuties will be working on.  I love the story "The little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything." by Linda Williams.  I plan on using this book to study several different things.  First off? Nouns!   I wrote a little noun song and plan to use it to find all the nouns in the story. I created a quick little cut and glue sorting activity with pics from the story and then a recording page for the kids to write the nouns.  Here are a few sample pics of the unit.

For your 9 page printable, click here! Unless you're afraid!! :)

Keep an eye out for the Verb Unit that will go along with this story as well!
Joyfully!
