Resolutions and Karaoke

Darn! I'm getting this bad habit of blogging few things in one post. Not that its against any law, its just not my style too. Must be influence from Sheng and WeiHan.

It's New Year's Eve today. This is usually the time where people start to reflect about their year and make resolutions for the next.

I had a jolly good year, got to make new friends in college, and also join the best club in Taylors. (If you don't know what club it is by now you're an idiot.) Parents gave me quite a fair bit of freedom with the car, resulting in me going out quite often, and I feel I'm getting kinda rebelious. Wth.

Anyway, I read through the resolutions I've made last year, and the year before, and realised I fulfilled nothing only a few things on the list. Well, moral of the story is, make lesser resolutions, and achieve them all. This year, I'll only make one, that is having a closer walk with God.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Last Monday, Eilene organised a karaoke + movie outing in MV and Gardens. I must say it was quite enjoyable. Ip Man was very much better than I expected. Anyone wanna learn WingChun now? Haha! And sorry Eilene for you-know-why.

Don't be scared of the camera la YeunYi mei mei!!

The main motive of the outing was to meet up with Celeste, a newly met very good friend of ours who have been in the land of the Kangaroos for the past one year. The night before the outing, we were talking about this chinese song (我就是这样)that has this super fast rap in the middle, and the following conversation took place.

KokMun: I try practice la..
KokMun: lol..
KokMun: if i can even read that fast..
Celeste: hha!
Celeste: memorise la!
KokMun: my brains..
KokMun: full of trash edi la..
KokMun: how to memo
KokMun: lol
Celeste: lol empty recycle bin!
KokMun: wahh have to delete before can empty recycle bin laa
Celeste: hahaha!!
Celeste: then delete la!
KokMun: deleting celeste.. progress 1/1
KokMun: LOL!!
Celeste: LOL!!!!!!
Celeste: KOK MUN!!!!
Celeste: deleting kok mun.. process completed
Celeste: so i wont see u tmr
KokMun: oh you'll see me.. but wont remember me only
KokMun: hahaaa
Celeste: who are u?
Celeste: who am i talking to now
KokMun: oh sorry forgot to introduce
KokMun: hi
KokMun: my name is kokmun
Celeste: oh hi nice to meet u
Celeste: i'm celeste

. . . and the conversation goes on for quite some time. Just don't ask what happened after that. LOL!

"Oh hi you must be Celeste! Nice to meet you"

Of Singapore Trip & Little India

Singapore Trip was exactly a week ago. Thanks YeeEng for taking time to organise this trip! The people who went were of coz, YeeEng herself, TerngSheng, LeeZhien, Jethro, Me, Eilene, ChinYuen, WaiShan, SuetYee, KaiXin and SueHue.

We took an executive bus down to S'pore. They served us SUBWAY 6inch ham sandwich!! We were shocked, we expected some cheap stuff like nasi lemak or roti canai. Anyway the bus rides were ok. Seat were big and comfy. I would say better than AirAsia.

At the S'pore immigration, the blady fat lady there insisted on seeing our NRIC. Who the hell checks IC when you go overseas?? Just check and chop the passport and let us go la! She insisted it's to make sure we're the correct passport holder. WTH?? She was the only arse there checking ICs, no other immigration officers did.

Upon arrival in Harbour Front, we took MRT to Little India, and checked in to our beds. I wouldn't say 'rooms' becoz all we had were just beds. I'll talk more about the hostel and Little India at the end of this post. Oh yea, S'pore MRT alone pwnz all public transport in Malaysia, what more the S'pore buses.

On the hostel reception. LOL!

Later in the evening, we visited Orchard Road. Christmas decos were up already. It was only at night where they switched on the lights. The night view of Orchard Road was really nice. Oh yea, Sheng, no need to regret k, you paid good money for a good shirt, original ZARA k!!

One of the many decos

The ever-busy Orchard Road

Decos are even inside the buildings. I like this one, a very space looking design.

Day 2, we visited the S'pore Science Center (SC). Compare to M'sia's science center, S'pore's one is like the bomb and ours is like dust. Seriously S'pore SC has soooo much to see. They even have one big section on science behind magics. We planned to spend 3hours there, but ended up spending 5hours, still we could not see everything.

China Town was kinda sien. Nothing much to do there. While the girls shopped there, the guys went over to Raffles-City Hall to get the feel of being a modernised city. It felt kinda good to just sit there and look at buildings. Haha!

It looks like some HongKong drama police station rite??

S'pore river cruise
was okay. Got to see the city and all. A rather relaxing ride. There was a commentator on the boat to tell us about the history of S'pore, and also some of the more famous buildings. The guys ate this Green Tea Red Bean ice cream there, gosh it was the best thing ever that went into my mouth.

S'pore city

Mini-Merlion. Tourism icon was it?

Esplanade, a durian looking building.

Some X-treme ride that launches you sky high in a ball. I think Sunway Lagoon has one too.

See those floating balls? They write a wish on a ball, and toss it into the river. So if I wish for them to clear the river, and they toss mine in, what will happen? Lol!

At night, we went to Plaza Singapura to watch a movie. "Beast Stalker". It was supposed to be a cantonese movie, but it was translated into chinese for Singaporeans. The plot and all not too bad, but I think it'll be better in Cantonese. Oh yea, there is this shop here that sells swords replica. There was Ichigo's Tensa Zangetsu, Hitsugaya's Hyorinmaru, and Rukia's Sode no Shirayuki. I so badly wanted to buy, but it was very expensive (S$200-S$400), and I doubt I can bring it back to Msia.

Day 3, we only went to Bugis Street, while the boys went back to Plaza Singapura to watch "The Day The Earth Stood Still", a rather boring movie. After which we met up with the girls in the hostel, and off to Harbour Front to catch the bus back to KL. That kinda ends our trip.

( F l a s h b a c k . . . )

Okay back to Little India. First time through the streets, it felt like Brickfields. Most of the shops had those super huge spiral power saving light bulbs of at least a thousand watts each, and they have a few of it. Some even had those gigantic golf-course spot lights. The streets at night was like daytime, and day time was like, daytime. THEY EVEN ON THE LIGHTS DURING THE DAY!!! Well, after midnight, when all lights are off, it was really dark, you wont know when you'll bang into someone. They really should put signs saying "pls smile" everywhere.

And our hostel, its called Inn Crowd Hostel. Its basically a back packer's hostel. They provide everything a normal hotel will provide, except blanket and privacy. We stayed in a dorm with 17 beds, of which we took 11. There were only 3 bathrooms, and 2 toilets to pee. Strictly to pee only coz you won't have enough place to sit and shit. The bathrooms didn't have hot water, but it wasn't that bad, I've seen worst. The toilets were bad, really bad, a little description from Sheng's blog:

"oh yea the toilet wei!! i didnt tell u about the toilet.. wah sei toilet experience had never been dat aweful.. ppl purposely tahan their urge until they reach the mall.. haha movie starting at 10.. 9.30 all take turns to go and bomb.. gg wei.. i dunno km got take photo of it la but.. imagine u sitting on the bowl.. the door is like.. 2mm away from ur nose.. the legs have to open wide and for long legs.. tip toe summore.. gosh.. ".

If you think those were bad, think again. At night, the nightmare comes. A Symphony Litte India-made Orchestra with zero harmony, brought together by people from all over the world. There was the drum, trumpet and violin. The drums was super loud, while the trumpet and violin made loud enough noise to keep you from falling asleep. For those who still do not know what I'm talking about, it's super loud snores by 3 fella. Two of whom slept right above and beside me. The snoring sound was so funny, at the same time so frustrating coz I couldn't sleep. I was laughing in anger. Wth. The only consolation was that the beds were relatively cheap, only S$20 per night.

Orchestra Stage

Orchestra aftermath. Over-sleeping in the morning.

Overall, this S'pore trip was really really enjoyable. I'll give it 8/10 (One point lost for the orchestra, and one more for the toilets.) I realised the location of a trip isn't that all important, its just the people. Lots of laughter and joy from the trip. Before I end, I present to you the picture of the trip!

Little India - the land where lights are on even during the day!

Glory Be To God

I've always prayed for good results so that I may glorify God. Before and after I study, I'll pray that God will grant me the memory I need. Before every paper, I'll pray that God be with me in the scarily quiet exam hall, to calm and clear my mind and help me to stay focus. After the exams, I'll pray again to thank God that the paper is over. Even weeks after the exams are over, I'll still be praying for good results.

But more than often after I finally get the results, I'll never be satisfied. I think my results are sort of average, but many will tell me its very good. I'm too comparative. My mum always remind me of this Chinese proverb that says "its never enough if we compare with the people better than us, and its always too much if we compare to people whom are not as good as us".

SPM was a disaster for me. I wasn't even close to satisfied. But my SAM results was different. And for once I'm really really satisfied with my results. I aimed for TER95, but kept my expectations lower at TER90-95. In the end, by God's grace, I got higher than what I aimed for.

Hence, I hereby give ALL glory to GOD, for the grades I've achieved.

With that very unexpected grades, I've decided to study Medicine. I don't know if I have the right mindset and attitude to persue that career, but I'll try my best and change if I have to. I'll continue to pray and hope that Medicine is what God wants me to do. Wish me all the best!

Cambodia

Last week, my family and relatives went to Cambodia. I must say Cambodia isn't that all bad. WeiHan told me the food is horrible, and my mum's friend told her that the weather is burning hot. Well, some of my meals were actually tasty, and the weather is somewhat similar to Malaysia.

Comparing Malaysia and Cambodia, I feel like I'm living in a 1st world country, though both are also 3rd world countries. At least we have high rise buildings, clean food and much better hygiene. Cambodian roads are super narrow, with a thick layer of dust over it. Whenever a vehicle zooms pass, the dust gets blown up and create a 'smoke screen'. Yes, no exaggerations, its that bad.

To the tourist part of Cambodia, they have Angkor Wat. One of the ex-7 wonders of the world. The tour guide told us that Angkor Wat failed to pass some test which caused it it's place in the list. Anyway, I don't think Angkor Wat is that great and mighty as portrayed in the Form5 Sejarah text book. For a non-artistic person like me, Angkor Wat is just rocks, rocks and more rocks. When you notice something new, it'll be stones, stones, and more stones. Thus the equation,

Angkor Wat = Rocks + stones

Nevertheless, the sunset view in Cambodia was great. From some temple above a mountain, and from a boat on Tonle Sap lake. Speaking of Tonle Sap, that lake is HUGE. It looks like an ocean from ashore.

Enough of talk, now to the pictures.

Angkor Wat

Another part of Angkor Wat, I think..

Jungle Temple

Sunset view from mountain temple

Floating village

King's Residence

Cambodian delicacy..

.. with a variety of them

Finally, picture of the year, a sunset view from Tonle Sap Lake. Yes, it's a lake, not an ocean.

There is more to the trip, but I'm lazy to tell it all here. Interested to know more, can always come ask me directly. Oh yea, Cambodia is a really really poor country, so pls pray that the people there will have at least their basic necessities to live.

Christmas Season

Last Thursday, went to Sunway Pyramid with Esther (my kai mui). Watched Twilight, and I seriously think that show is over-rated. Anyway, I noticed there are a lot of interesting Christmas designs. Took some photos and here they are!

New wing design

Old wing design

On Saturday, I was punished kindly asked to decorate the Christmas tree coz I forgot was lazy to do it with my sister on Friday. Why am I the only one who has to get punished?? Anyway, dad helped quite a fair bit, but sis only helped a bit. When I say a bit I really mean A BIT. Come lets spell it together. A-B-I-T

Christmas tree at home

On the other hand, quite a number of my friends will be/are learning driving now. Namely Esther, Jasmine, Rachel, KokKin. Did I leave anyone out? Haha! All the best driving k. And remember not to bribe! xD

I'll be off for the next 5 days, which also means this will be a semi-dead blog, unless I can get Internet access there. Until then, say tuned!

VBS Concert

NOTE: I know it's a little late to blog about this now, I admit I'm a lazy blogger.

Last Saturday was VBS concert. There was a sketch, with dances slotted into it. The VBS kids performed in those dances, according to age groups and songs. After which was a message from Pastor Tan. The sketch was kinda funny, and the message was a summary of what we learnt in VBS.

Before the concert, we stayed in our classrooms for a parents-teachers session. But being as playful as I always am, I played 'bubbles' and '007' with the kids instead. I let the adults do the talking, I'll do the entertaining. I happy, they happy, we all happy =D. At 3pm, a bell rang and it's time to assemble outside the Worship Rally Lagoon. The standard 5 and 6s were seated at the top. So we kinda got a "bird's eye view" of everything. And I tell you the std5&6s were hyper. They were either running around, or talking non-stop. Honolulu Riders were by far the noisiest class there. We'll let the pictures do the talking.

Assembly

Honolulu Riders were at the far left, or right, depending where you're facing.

See the few flower-ed girls standing? Yea, thats where we sat.

A glimpse of the crowd below.

"Bird's eye view" of the concert

Not that a bad view after all

That's all for the concert. Check out FBC VBS 08 blog (click here) for more pictures.

Summary

The last few days has been really happening. As most of you know, VBS made my week, and it'll probably make my year too. On the other hand, I've missed out blogging on some other occasion due to the VBS hype. Now I'll summarise it all in this post k?

27th November was my DAD's BIRTHDAY!!

Happy Birthday Dad!

28th November was MayLing's birthday. My sister's best friend.

The girl in yellow is MayLing

29th November was non other than TERNG SHENG's BIRTHDAY!!! Gratz bro you're finally 18. Go drink all you want now xD. Not forgetting that its also YeunYi's bday. Well not as if she reads my blog. And VBS concert was also on the 29th, but that deserves a new post.

Sheng! For unknown reasons he likes this picture of himself.

YeunYi mei mei

And also, Esther has just started blogging!! "Just" as in 20mins ago! Welcome into the blogging world sis! click 'here' to visit her blog. Oh did I mention she loves VBS too? Haha!!

Esther and the water balloons

Lastly, I'm already missing VBS. But I was really really happy to see some of my students in church today. Especially those unchurched ones. Hope to see them weekly in church =). Oh yea, there is a FBC VBS blog where you can get more detailed updates and view more pictures of VBS. Click 'here' to check it out!

VBS Part 2

5 days of VBS has finally come to an end. All that's left is VBS concert tomorrow. I can't believe I actually gave up going to Irau for this concert. For now, my only prayer is that the kids will remember what they have learnt this whole week, and continue to grow in their faith.

~Honolulu Riders~ class picture

VBS format is simple. We follow the same format everyday, but each day we do different things in each station. Firstly we start off the day with Worship Rally Lagoon, where all classes come together to sing and dance.

Singing and Dancing

Dancing

After which we'll all return to our respective classrooms, a.k.a Bible Study Beach Hut, where there will be a Bible lesson. Each day we touch on different truths about God. Day1 is God is real, day2 is Jesus is the God's son, day 3 is Jesus is the only way, day4 is the Bible is God's word, and day5 is my action shows what I believe. Lessons were made interesting with role plays and games, not forgetting chocolates and prizes!

Teacher Lilian and the 'burning' bush

Teacher May Foong conducting a pirate game

After classes its Music Falls. Similar to the starting Worship Rally Lagoon, but this time its only the Std5 and 6s. This time kids will get to learn the steps for all 6 dances in detail. They also use this time for concert practice.

Learning the actions for dances

Practising for concert

Don't we all love Andy?

Yet another concert practice session

After Music Falls is Recreation Reef. This is 20mins of pure fun with games. Everyday a different game is played. All simple yet interesting.

Water balloon transfer

Go slow and steady ppl!

They have like.. unlimited supply of water balloons

Spin, spin and away~~

Obstacle course ahead

After games is Snack Shack. I must say the food prepared were really good. The kids went on with 2nd and 3rd helpings. Yummm.. Too bad no photos =(
Next is Craft Cabana/Mission Lookout. Basically the kids will make a craft here. But for the std5&6, invited speakers share and tell the kids the importance of missions, and encourage all of them to pray for missionaries around the world. Nevertheless there will still be a smaller and simpler craft to be done.

Mini-craft session

Yet another craft picture

After Missions Lookout, the kids will return to Bible Study Beach Hut (classroom) for the closing up of lesson. Lastly is Worship Rally Lagoon again, then Home Sweet Home.

Never a moment have I regretted helping VBS. Though it may be tiring, but it's really a joy to see kids so hyped up over God's word. God bless all of you!
