It's a Double Bass... To Me!

I was witness to the most hilarious (in a good way) Finn concert tonight. He is a "performer" in all aspects of his life. Not to get off topic, but Finn had a dad at the park near tears with his comedy routine on the swings today. After a dinner full of Ben Folds, Finn requested his "double bass" and that's when it all went down. The best part was when he would announce each song into the microphone of his cash register. I paraphrase, "The next song is 'Zak and Sara'...ok? Ok." Then he would pick up the double bass, tune it, and go to town. I couldn't understand most of the words as I think he was just trying to have the lyrics flow as a true rock star. Rock on, little guy!

Back to Basics

While the uber-deluxe train table with not only trains galore, but a full-on construction site, sits idly by upstairs, Finn asks me to help him build a little circle track for the train he got on his first birthday. And he played with it for half an hour. Notice his handcrafted (literally) crossing gate and train passing by the gate. It's the simple things.

The Music Man

He sings. He dances. He listens. He plays. If I were to say, "Finn loves music," that would most definitely be the understatement of the year. Every time we put on a new album or CD, he will lie on the floor, entranced, taking it all in. He's not just an avid listener, but an experienced musician. He played all of these instruments, including the "double bass" (aka guitar standing up) within a five minute period. Notice the makeshift drum and trumpet - his imagination has no limits. Finn even verifies with us that everything we play on the ipod or in the car is "rock and roll music." And he knows some of the lyrics to Grateful Dead songs. Seriously. I may be a bit biased, but I would bet on Finn being a professional harmonica player down the road. Now that would be something.

...and the Grand Finale

Ice cream! His very own cone - this is a big deal, you know.

Beach Bums

We headed westward this weekend and spent the day at Cannon Beach. The forecast called for cool, overcast conditions with a 100% chance of fun in the sand. Finn loved tromping through the shallow water (which was 53 degrees - yikes!) and building roads in the sand. We had an incredible time.

Blast Off!

Every time I was out shopping with Finn and we passed some popsicle kits, I promised we would get one. I kept my eye out for the "perfect" set and today it was found. We made our first round of rocket pops this afternoon. Unlike the "bomb pops" of my childhood, these are healthy pops. Sorry, kid, you're growing up in the heart of the ultra-healthy eating zone! I, too, grew up with homemade popsicles and all was well until I discovered the neon green lime and syrupy cherry popsicle goodness. But you are what you eat. So I am following in my mom's footsteps and made Finn some wholesome orange juice pops. Hope they're blast-tastic!

The Roadhouse

We had dinner at one of our favorite summer spots - CPR! Finn colored a pretty impressive street sweeper (see below) and fed Daddy his dinner. :) After our feast, we befriended a Dutch / American family with two little boys. It was amazing to discover the similarities between our broods in terms of language exposure, travel, interests, etc. The boys played hide and go seek, although I must admit the game is still a bit of an anomaly for Finn. Nonetheless, they all got some exercise and Tom and I had a chance to chat away with their mom.

When I Grow Up

A few days back, we asked Finn what he wanted to be when he grew up. The verdict: A guitar player. In a reggae band. Awesomeness.

And it's... Bastille Day!

We headed downtown to our favorite fountain with our good friends in tow and, voila! A huge Bastille Day celebration was going on. There was food (think french fries cooked in duck confit - yum!), live music and, of course, fun in the water. Finn was busy pouring drinks for us and Henry did some splashing of his own. A fabulous day with even more fabulous friends, French style.
