Ahwal exam (2)
Alhamdulillah, without even realizing, I've already sat for 4 papers. 2 papers left now. =)
Day 3
Sunday, 16/1
Linguistics (Ilmul Lughah)
Slept for 6 hours the night before but woke up feeling as though I didn't sleep... asyik terbangun-bangun kat tengah malam. But 'ala ayyati hal, alhamdulillah... managed to pull myself together, and with the 3 hours plus I had after subuh, I did some last minute read-ups. I never did manage to master certain topics even after numerous study groups, discussions and read-ups. So what was left to be done was to just... tawakkal.
9.30 am. The question paper was already right in front of me. But I wasn't ready yet to look at it... so took out around 7 of my pens, put them on the desk, recited selawat many many times while choosing a pen.
10 minutes passed. 9.40 am. Still choosing a pen while reciting selawat~ An invigilator came. "Fi 'alam gaf ziyaadah? Fi tolibah muhtag ilal alam." (Do you have an extra pen? One student needs one.) Well it was obvious that I did have a pen. =) I put aside one pen I wanted to use, and gave one to the invigilator. And I don't know why that small incident gave me hope and strength. Because if we help others, insyaAllah He will help us more, right? I believe so...
Bismillah. Here goes... I flipped the question paper.
Q1: Define linguistics and elaborate on the difference between the aforementioned study and philology. Include explanations on the aim of linguistics and the direction it moves towards. Thought to myself: "Okay... manageable insyaAllah."
Q2: What is the relation between language and other fields of study?
Rabb. Rabb. Rabb! "That's all? For a 35 mark essay question?" Panicked. Didn't know what to do...
Q3: The first theory on how language came about was called 'Tauqif'. Explain this theory, with reference to which school of thought came up with it. "This, I know insyaAllah..."
Did question 1, and proceeded to question 2. Think think think... Rabb! Couldn't think. So I began by just writing down things from a chapter I was familiar about and tried my best to link it up with the question. Then question 3... manageable Alhamdulillah.
12.30 pm. Closed the answer booklet and handed it in.
Bismillahi tawakkaltu...
Day 4
Wednesday, 19/1
English (Allughatul Aruubiyyah Al-hadiithah)
Woke up nice and early without the knowledge that many things would go wrong... read translation notes but fell asleep. Rabb! Woke up at 8 when I had to go out at 8.30. Had breakfast in a hurry and made a mess... Upon reaching the campus, felt something wasn't right.
"Hmmm... kenapa beg macam ringan ni?"
Checked my bag. My passport's there, alhamdulillah. But wait... my pencilbox! Where is it? Allah..... of all the things, why my pencilbox~ While rummaging my bag, my friend came.
"Hi awak!"
"Awak! Kte tak bawak pencilbox!"
"Alamak... check lagi~ Betul ni, pen pun takde?"
"Ha'ah eh... k k, kte check lagi."
Rummaged again.
"Ok ok kte nampak pen! Yes!"
"Nasib baik..."
"Eh..." Wait... this isn't right...
"Apa pulak?"
"Awak, ni bukan pen, ni straw! Alah..."
"Ya Allah~ Takpe lah kte pinjamkan pen kte k!"
Went up to the exam hall. Kept all my notes and tried to zip my bag only to realize the zipper was spoilt. (My friend: "Ya Allah fairuz macam-macam... lepas ni apa pulak tau...) Rabb... but most importantly my paper was okay. Alhamdulillah.
Alhamdulillah I still manage to smile. =)
2 papers more to go.
Doakan...

We keep on smiling, because.....
He always does, doesn't He?
... and He sends the nicest people around you to make things better. =)
Ultimately... I believe that He'd bring me to what's best for me.
He'd show me the way, and all that's left to be done is to follow my heart, face all obstacles and... kick bad peoples' butt jyeah! (I learnt how to say that from my brother. I think the image of a rocker suits me, yes?) But in case you got alarmed, no I'm not going to do that. =) I was brought up to show all due respect and compassion towards others. No matter how many mistakes they do.
He's the reason I'm here, the reason I'm still breathing, the reason I understand the meaning of blessings, the reason I have the strength to fight.
And I thank Him for whoever who created Mulan.
Random much. ^__^"
But really... she's someone so determined, loyal... a believer of taking chances.
that's the kind of person I want to be too.
Doakan saya. =)

Penat belajar, nak kongsi cerita sekejap! =)
InsyaAllah semua boleh belajar daripada episod ni k.
Pada suatu hari... kawan ana sedang masak dalam dapur.
"Alamak, kentang dengan carrot dah habis!"
"Oh, dah telefon Syarif mintak dia hantar?"
"Dah, tapi dia tak angkaaat!"
"Ok ok, kte try call kan k?"
Untuk pengetahuan semua... Syarif bukanlah orang. Syarif tu nama kedai runcit kat daerah rumah kita. Best, ada khidmat penghantaran percuma! Kita telefon, dia akan hantar betul-betul depan pintu. Ana pun telefon...
Telefon: Kring kring. Kring kring.
Pakcik kedai: Aluu.
Ana: Salaam 'alaikum. 'Aizah thalab. (Saya nak buat permintaan.)
Pakcik: Ok ok faddal. (Silakan)
Ana: *alamak terlupa carrot apa dalam Arab!* .....
Pakcik: Aluuu!
Ana: Oh oh 'aizah guzur! (Saya nak 'carrot'! *yakin 'guzur' tu carrot dalam 'Ammiyyah*)
Pakcik: Gazer?
Ana: *takut dia bagi benda lain pula* Guzur!
Pakcik: Gazer!
Ana: *bingung* Guzur! Guzur!
Pakcik: Gazerrrr!
Ana: *dalam hati: "Gazer tu carrot ke?"* Oh oh ok, gazer!
Pakcik: *dengus* (kuat k dengusan!)
Lepastu ana bising kat ahli beit.
"Carrot dalam ammiyyah 'gazer' laaah!"
"Iyelah, tadi cakap apa?"
"Tadi cakap 'guzur'! Tak ada orang cakap puuun!"
"Bukannya nak tanya!"
"....."
K lah salah ana. Dahlah salah, tak nak kalah pula dengan pakcik Arab.
Tu satu pengajaran.
Lagi satu... kalaupun kita tak tahu, kita kena yakin je tu betul!
Allaahu a'lam. ^__^"
Masa untuk tidur. Esok nak sambung muraja'ah.
Doakan k. =)

Ahwal exam (1)
Alhamdulillah, without even realizing, I've already sat for 2 papers. =)
Day 1
Sunday, 9/1
History of Arabic Literature (Tarikh Al-Adab Al-Jaahili)
First time sitting for exams in Al-Azhar! Had to push my way to the hall, because apparently Arabs are excited when it comes to examinations! It was really crowded, and every one was squeezing past each other once the doors of our campus building was open. You can imagine... um, oh! It's kinda like those demonstrations that the news on tv shows!
Once me and my friends got to the hall, got seated, papers were distributed and... exam starts! Sitting in the first row was... a mistake? ^__^" Invigilators were extremely loud. One of them were practically shouting while reading the question papers, another was giving us words of encouragement, and the others were laughing while looking at all our passports. And all was done right in front of me. I found it quite amusing, but was distracted too as it was more fun to watch the invigilators than do the paper itself! I could hear my friend behind me being very frustrated though. Hehe. =)
Second incident, the invigilator borrowed my correction pen. Dah habis pakai, terus datang balik. "Jazaakumullaaaaaaaha khairal jazaaaa'!!!" Okay, distracting! What with them joking with each other, and other random people coming in and asking me which batch I'm in... it wasn't like having exams k.
Questions for Adab weren't as what we expected though... somehow the things that the duktuurah didn't touch a lot on during lectures were what came out. What were initially seen as small small sections were being magnified. Only managed to write nearly 2 pages for each question while the others wrote around 3 or 4 pages... am praying hard.
Moral of this day: Don't ask your friends how much they wrote to avoid unnecessary panic? =)
Day 2
Wednesday, 12/1
Art of Article Writing (Fannul Maqaal)
Today wasn't as bad as the first day. Today's invigilators were not as noisy, except for the one reading the question paper during the beginning of the session and their occasional laughter amongst themselves. But the janitor came in to carry a few chairs and it hit me. Even had to duck during one part. Exams is like war? ^__^"
Today's questions were nicer. Alhamdulillah. But still praying hard because anything can happen. The last question was to write an article about an influential figure, and I wrote about the late Ust Syed Abdillah. I don't know why. And I cried while writing. Because he was such a great man...
Called home 2 days ago. Recalled times when I was protected in Ma'arif and there was mum with me by my side every time to help me make decisions. Now being here, I have to learn how to take care of myself. Turning 20 soon, but am still not acting like one? Turning 20, but still have many dreams to live...
On a lighter note, there's always a crazy scene in this house during exams! ^__^ During one night while studying with my friend in our room...
Me: *stressed while memorizing* Fighting! Fighting! Yaaaa!
Friend: Fighting dalam arab ape?
Me: Nujaadil! Nukhaasim! Nuqaatil?
Friend: Allahu akbar!
Me: Allah Allah!
Friend: Ilal kubuur!
Me: *confused* Hah...
Friend: Minal mahdi ilal lahdi!
Me: Oh ok lah boleh lah. ^__^"
Alhamdulillah.
Got to Egypt to seek knowledge.
Got to speak to my mum despite she works shifts.
Got to laugh despite being stressed.
Got wonderful company.
Got guests in the house just now yay!
Oh, got to taste sotong masak hitam in Egypt!
Thank you Allah. For the never ending blessings.
Thank you...

"Tak ape k dik..."
Tulah dialog yang paling banyak mama pakai dulu waktu ana main-main masak. ^__^ Tapi ana cuma akan ceritakan satu peristiwa waktu ana dah berhenti kerja daripada NLB, masa-masa ana selalu duduk rumah kemudian masakkan untuk mak ana. Jadi lepas balik kerja terus dia dah boleh makan. =)
Cerita asam pedas:
Pada hari tu, ana dah bongkar-bongkar fridge. Garu-garu kepala tak tahu nak masak apa. Tapi bila dah tengok bahan, fikir-fikir... ana pun buat keputusan. Menu hari ni, asam pedas! Yay! Dengan penuh semangat ana masak asam pedas, siap letak daun lagi jadi bau dia harum! Bila dah gembira, ana pun tengok tv. Tak sabar nak tunggu mama balik!
Tak lama lepas tu... dengar bunyi kunci. Mama balik! =)
"Ma, mama tahu tak adik masak apa hari ni?"
"Tahu. Dari luar tau mama boleh bau!"
"Waaaaah betul? Bestnya!"
Mama pun masuk dapur. Ana yang tunggu kat luar, rasa tak sabar!
Lepas berapa minit, mama duduk sebelah ana.
"Adik, adik masak asam pedas?"
"Ha'ah, eh tadi mama kata mama tahu apa adik masak?"
"Mmm, ha'ahlah... Adik, adik letak daun kesom tak?"
"Letak, adik jumpa banyak dalam fridge tau ma!"
"Eh ye ke... mama ingat dabis..."
Ana bingung. Sebelum tu kan mama kata dia dah bau apa ana masak... kenapa dia tanya pula. Ana pandang mama. Eh, apa pula dia buat...
"Ma, kenapa mama tenung daun tu sampai camtu sekali?"
"Dik...."
"Saye ma?"
"Ni bukan daun kesom ni...."
"Haaa...??"
"Ni daun kari........."
"Mama biar betul?!" ( Ana hampa hampa hampa! =( )
"Iye dik... ya Allah anak mama tak tahu bezakan daun..."
"Tapi bau lauk sedap juga kan..??"
"Sedap dik... bau sedap macam kari lah."
"Alah...."
"Tu yang tadi dari koridor mama bau kari. Ingatkan adik masak kari..."
"Alah alah alah!"
"Tak ape k dik... sedap juga ni! Thank you masak!"
Mak ana memang pujuk. Suka! ^__^
Mama, today I cooked asam pedas, and it tastes the same as yours. Alhamdulillah. =) I wish you could taste it...
Oh, and I remember times when you and I would lie on the bed side by side and talk.
"Mama, I keep making mistakes and most of the time my cooking goes wrong. Mama, do you think I'll find someone who'd appreciate me as much as you do?"
You'd just smile.
"Adik kena jadi baik, nanti dapat pun orang baik k..."
Rindu.
