Ethan Hawke plays the priest of a historic church in a wintery part of New York state. When not drinking and smoking, he talks to emotionally troubled parishioners about how shit life is and the church's broken organ.
Broken Organ. Sounds like a terrible YouTube comedy collective.
Reverend ChuggyPuff is burdened with failing health, guilt over his son's death and all the baggage that the locals offload onto him. There's also the encroaching corporatisation of religion sniffing around, wanting to turn his old church into a touristy trinket stall.
I make the above sound like a bad thing when, in fact, it's an excellent film and Ethan Hawke is almost mesmeric in his performance of the main character. Definitely worth seeing.
10/10
