Genere: Rock/Pop
.
Styles: Goth Rock, Metal.
Similar Artist: Type O' Negative, Love Like Blood.
Record Year: 2004.

In 1991, Umbra et Imago were created as a side-project of The Electric Avantgarde. In the following year, the two bands were still existing alongside. There were plans for The Electric Avantgarde to change its style to Death Metal, but those were soon dropped.

The band dissolved and was later reformed as Dracul so that Umbra et Imago became Mozart's main project.
In 1992 Umbra et Imago player their first stage shows, where visual effects played an important role. While the band's style was still dominated by electronic influences, there were frequent appearances of guest musicians such as Peter Heppner of Wolfsheim. The band began to develop an excentric image and they were known for their fancy concerts . Umbra et Imago polarized critics and were even publicly criticized. In the same year, their album Träume, Sex und Tod was publisher, one year later Infantile Spiele was released.

As their album tracks often exceeded lengths of 10 minutes they were unsuited for play in discotheques and were not included to DJs' programs. Because of that, Umbra et Imago created a remix of their song Erotica which they called ZöllerMussEsSpielen Mix ({{lang-de|Zöllner's Got To Play It Mix), referring to Michael Zöllner, a resident DJ of Bochum's Zwischenfall discotheque. Despite its length, Gothic Eroti from the 1993 album Infantile Spiele remained the band's best known song.

Clan Of Xymox - Medusa

Genere: Rock/Pop
Style: Goth, Dark WaveSimilar artists: Crüxshadows, The Cure, Medicine
Recording year : 4AD, 1986.

Clan of Xymox have been in the unfortunate position of always being compared to other bands since their inception. Whether it's the Cure or Joy Division, Clan of Xymox have never been able to shake off the similarities to their influences. Nevertheless, the group has produced an impressive body of work that consistently absorbed new sounds while remaining faithful to the '80s goth rock menu.

Clan of Xymox were formed in Nijmegen, Netherlands, in 1983 by Ronny Moorings (vocals, guitar) and Anka Wolbert (bass, vocals). A year later, Moorings and Wolbert moved to Amsterdam, releasing the LP Subsequent Pleasures as Xymox. (The album was limited to 500 copies.) Xymox then became the opening act for Dead Can Dance in England. The band's presence on Dead Can Dance's U.K. tour caught the interest of 4AD Records, and the label eventually signed them. A year later, Xymox lengthened their name to Clan of Xymox and recorded a self-titled album in 1985, followed by Medusa the next year.
Clan of Xymox's second full album (not counting the rudimentary debut EP) is a distinct improvement on the Dutch band's earlier work, and indeed is probably the group's career high point. However, the band's fatal flaws remain clear throughout the album: although these songs are superficially attractive in a goth-dance sort of way, there's little in the way of depth or substance here, and on closer listen, one realizes that the best parts of these songs sounded even better when they appeared on earlier albums by Depeche Mode, Xmal Deutschland, Propaganda, and Bauhaus. The album's high point by far is the proto-acid house "Michelle," which has the dreamy neo-psychedelic textures of Psychic TV's "Godstar" or mid-period Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Theodor Bastard - Pustota

Género: Etno Gothic

Artistas similares: Dead Can Dance, Bel Canto

Theodor Bastard is a Russian duo with a fruitful musical race as unknown, that in the last decade has given birth to six works, being the most recent of them 'Pustota' . Their music it's difficult to classify, but distills an extreme feeling doubtless, and is that the anguish slides between Eastern harmonies winning it everything, broken complaints of machines of a alienante future that mark the inexorable rate of the compositions, and the calm and diaphanous voice of Yana, lightening a load of pain that sometimes seems unalterable, hypnotic, lysergic.

Although the guitars in this album are anecdotal, it is not it his feeling that confers to all the work a great compositional coherence to him. Reflection of that is the Russian multi-etnicity that wants to be western but always in the east, and that's because the crossroads of two continents, duality of spirit of a always hidden sonorous potential of the orthodox and academic musical observance.

Dead Can Dance - Memento

Género: Alternative rock, etnic fusion

Artistas similares: Bel canto, Nick cave, Cocteau twins
