Week at Grandma and Grandpa T's -Part 2

So Friday started out like most days...get up feed Luke then go about the rest of the day. The only difference this Friday was a stomach ache I had. I contributed it to the Chipolte dinner we had the night before and didn't think much of it. We had been packing up all morning to head back home. I wanted to feed Luke one last time before we left. Well I couldn't finish feeding him, my stomach started hurting so bad I was crying and could barely move to get up. I yelled for my mom and told her where I was hurting (lower right side) and she said, "I think that's your appendix let me go look online." Sure enough it was and off we were to the hospital.

The drive over was excruciating! I mean I gave birth twice without medicine, but I didn't think I could go on much longer in this pain. Once at the ER I started shaking and couldn't stop. It seemed like it took forever, but I finally got to go back and be seen and get some pain medication. It was instant relief! They wanted to do a cat scan, so more waiting, more pain medication, and more phone calls to family members. Finally they got the cat scan results back and sure enough I needed surgery to remove my appendix.  This was at about 2:00 that afternoon.

At this point Eric was almost there! I was so glad he got there as fast as he did. So the surgery itself was scary enough but I was getting nervous about nursing and all the feedings I had already missed. Luckily Eric stopped at the house and brought all the milk I had pumped so we could give Luke as much breastmilk as possible. Also I was able to see a lactation consultant and start pumping in the hospital!! (Unfortunately my supply dropped quite a bit and we are working on getting that back.)

So finally at about 6:00 that night I was wheeled into the operation room. At 6:30 Eric was told that the surgery was a success. (My surgeon told me it took all of 22 mins. from start to finish!!) I remember small segments of the recovery room, but apparently I was making everyone laugh!

The view from my room!
The rest of the night I rested, as much as I could. Noah came to check on me too!! I was so happy to see him since I hadn't even said goodbye to him that morning because of the pain.

The next morning was pretty quiet. I saw the surgeon and he released me right away. So the rest of the day other than nursing Luke I didn't do much. The pain isn't even that bad. The worst pain is due to the excess air that they use to pump you up during surgery. Apparently it likes to go to your shoulders and stay there for a day or two before working itself out.
Someone missed his daddy while we were gone!
I am so thankful this happened when it did. It wasn't fun not having Eric there the whole time, but since both my parents were around I didn't have to worry about the boys! They once again have saved the day for me!! This week I have family coming into town for a couple of days to help out! I am so blessed to have family close enough to do this.

Week with Grandma and Grandpa T's - Part 1

This past week we decided we would stay with my parents. I was running really low on sleep and Noah was in need of some lake/Findlay time.

Good morning world!

After some lake time we decided to head down to Findlay. My sister had some time off work so we spent a day with her.

Quality time with Aunt Meg

The real excitement of our week long adventure was just about to begin and none of us had any idea what what was going to happen. Check out the next post for more on the excitement!

Nightly ritual

Most nights here at the Farny household you will see two little naked (well we try and keep underwear and diapers on) boys playing around!

When Noah was a baby we would play with him before bed and before we put his PJ's on in his room.  So now we try and do that with both boys.  It doesn't happen as often as it did with Noah, but it is still fun when we are able to do it.
Noah likes when Luke does tummy time on him!
Not sure what they are looking at, but they are both very focused!
Noah was doing some infant massage on his brother!
This night they weren't naked but we were still playing and having fun!
Aww buddy, you are getting so big!
They don't stack on my nose that well

A trip to the library...

Today we ventured out, needing some more books to read.  (We have been reading a lot of books lately!) One book in particular we have read a lot, New Baby from The Berenstain Bears, and I wanted to pick up some more.

So we played on the computers, though I am not sure he really knew what he was doing, but it kept him busy for awhile and he seemed to be having fun!

Baby brother was all snuggled up in his stroller watching all that was going on.

We loaded up the stroller with as many books as we could and we headed home to start reading!!!

It was a great venture out!  I am starting to feel more comfortable taking out both boys and getting around in between feedings.

One Month Old

Really, a month?  I can't believe it, but then there are times that it feels like Luke has always been a part of our family.
The traditional quilt picture (Thanks to my Aunt Cheri for the beautiful quilt!!)
He had his one-month check up on Friday.  His basic stats are 9.6 lbs (47%), 21.25 in (41%), and 37.60 cm (38%).  He is almost exactly the same size as Noah was at his appointment, just kind of fun to compare.

We are getting into a really good routine during the day.  He eats every three hours and loves to take his naps in the swing (again I don't know what I would do without it!).  We are following the Babywise scheduling just to try and make my life a little easier and predict/know when we need to stop and eat.  I followed this with Noah, but not until he was older.

This past week was kind of rough because of his stuffy nose.  I thought he was getting better, but Saturday night he was up a lot of the night just snorting away.  I asked the doctor at his appointment and they said there isn't much they can do at this age.  I had been using a bulb suction thing and saline drops, but nothing seemed to help.  Then I found out that breast milk could help, so out we went to get an eye dropper to try it out.  Well, he is still a little stuffy, but he slept so much better last night.  I got a good three hours of sleep!!!!  I am hoping this continues and the stuffy nose is gone soon!

Working on tummy time...he is getting better
Luke loves to watch Noah play.  Noah is usually in his face trying to get Luke to play with him, but Luke doesn't seem to mind at all.  He really watches Noah and turns his head when Noah talks to him.  I can see that they will be best buddies in a few short months!
