Christmas Trip: The Journey Home

After an incredible trip, we had to make our way home. This time we decided to split the drive up over two days. The first day we again enjoyed the beautiful Colorado mountains! We had to stop and introduce the kids to Willie's Wings.

Our brakes were acting a bit odd and we assumed they'd just gotten a bit hot driving down the steep mountain pass so we took the kids for a short visit to Red Rocks. It was such a beautiful, warm day! I could seriously move back to Colorado in a heartbeat.
Orson signing "I love you!"
Sadly our brakes were still acting up so we had to make a stop and get them checked out. It wasn't pretty. Our back caliper had frozen up (likely before the road trip even started) and had overworked the whole brake system. Four new rotors, four new brake pads, two back calipers later, and a hefty bill later, we were back on the road. It was not fun. But there are always tender mercies and this was no exception. For one thing, we were safe! We also found the most wonderful brake shop that got everything repaired quickly. They gave the kids snacks and even let the dogs wait in the lobby. The brake problem set us back a few hours, but we still made it in to Kansas that day.

We had some seriously tired kids that night!

The last day was longer than we would have liked because of the set back. But the kids were awesome! I came down with a bit of a stomach bug about two hours before we got home which was no fun. But we made it.
Between the drives there and back, plus the driving we did in Utah, we drove over 4,000 miles this trip! And it was fun. We loved the sight seeing we were able to do along the way. The kids love talking about how many states they've visited (Hazel and Eliza have been to 17 states thanks to road trips!) I think it's safe to say, we are one of those road tripping families. And we love it! I hope the kids have fond memories of these trips when they grow up. I know Michael and I will always cherish them. Here's to many more miles to come!

ChristmasTrip: Conrad's Baby Blessing

One of the highlights of our trip was blessing Conrad. So many friends and family gathered to honor this sweet little boy!

He was looking adorable in the same sweater outfit we used to bless Orson. He also wore Michael's white booties from when he was a baby!

Conrad was also able to meet his namesake - Weatherford Clayton. Weatherford was Michael's Bishop and then Stake President while he was growing up. He was always kind, loving, and patient with Michael. He was also the doctor that delivered Alicia. Conrad was completely taken by Weatherford!

Michael gave Conrad a beautiful blessing surrounded by a group of incredible men. I'm so thankful for these stalwart men, their excellent leadership, their use of the priesthood to guide and bless our lives, and their wonderful examples. Conrad, you were blessed to grow healthy and strong, both in body and spirit, much like the men who held you that day. You are incredibly loved sweet boy! You have big shoes to fill, but I have no doubt you will.

Christmas Trip: Ballard Family Highlights

One of the best parts of this trip was getting to see ALL of our immediate family! Teri, Tony, and Jamie were in Utah for Christmas. The Saturday before Christmas we all went to support Alicia for her student's skating recital! We also were able to do a family sealing session at the Bountiful temple the day after Christmas which was wonderful. Of course, Grandma and Jamie spent some time with the big girls at the mall. While spending time with my side of the family means cousin, cousins, and more cousins, spending time with Michael's family means I get a break and all the kids get awesome one on one attention from adoring aunts and uncles!

Alicia's students were awesome!
Coolest Grandma ever!

Christmas Trip: Christmas Day!

Santa did find us in Utah! After we opened presents with Gram and Grandpa, we headed up to Michael's grandma's house in Bountiful where his parents were staying. We spent the day up there with all of his siblings. I can't even remember the last time all of the Ballards were all together! We ate a huge breakfast, played games, watched old movies, and just enjoyed lots of relaxing with family.

Eliza's Calico Critter elephants kept photo bombing every picture!
