...One day, Len got really really bored. She didn't want post her works on DA. Neither does she wanna post in FAC. She just want a quiet space for herself. Somewhere where no one will comment or spy on. So she made this :P

For fun...

Found this while trying to look for sound effects for my 4D assignment... Just wonder where the hell can I find that sound effect other than having to record directly for hte ds... Just lacking that sound recorder now.

Anyways, just for fun...XD

I smeelll trouble soon...

Yeap, feelinh lethargic lately... The 4D assignment is due soon, but I have yet to settle down with a concrete idea of what I want. SOY event is on saturday, leaving me only 3 days (probably down to 1 and half days) to do it, since I can only get the camera on Friday... Gotta get that idea out by tml, or everything will be messy soon... Although I'm pretty sure the lecturer wouldn't kill me for handing assignments late, but it's still not so nice to do so. Spent my entire afternoon in the library, waiting for time to pass cos a friend of mine invited me to her house that evening. Only to discover that I've got the wrong day....

Wanted to paint something red... doesn't sound good though. Anyways, trying to imitate the chinese gong bi painting for the lines, but still too raw... (yea, was studying celtic knotwork in the library that afternoon. Realised that my head can't focus on churning ideas...)

Painting anywhere

Gotta love that watercolor set in my pencil box. Now I can really paint anywhere I like. Went to granny's house to help out my aunt with the spring cleaning, and after that, sat down to draw and paint a bit.

Told myself not to go over the painting too many times for this one, since the paper ain't very good... Went over it with a pen to bring out the features of the characters.

This was sketched earlier in my book during lecture times, but didn't really wanna work on a fully rendered piece, even though I had in mind some colors. Hands got itchy, so splashed some paint on it to get that idea out of my head. Somehow, it didn't work out so well.

An experimental piece...

Anyways, there goes a day... And I have yet to complete 95% of my homework... Hmm... wondering if the holidays have caused my engines to slow down there...

Len through the years....

Yea, this guy. Let's see.... went to get a new file for my stack of old drawings and paintings (as well as a new one for my new stuff). I realised I haven't been drawing the really old characters that I made up quite some years ago. Original characters? Maybe yes maybe no... Whatever original stuff there is in my files are heavily influenced by famous comic artists. Even this character Len, who at the moment I came up with and thought was pretty original, turns out to be identified close to Dark of DNangel... Didn't read the manga that time, but seems like maybe I've seen pictures of Dark and it surfaced from my memory bank while I was creating this character.

And yea, the nickname came from that, since I was creating my very first art gallery account on FAC and 'Len' happens to be an available ID (before that, I wanted 'Azure' but it was taken). It kind of sticked through till now, a simple name. Didn't know about it's meaning of 'Flute' or 'lion' or an abbrevation for Leonard (oh gosh...). But hey, lion... I have two lions under my birth day apart from a crab... so maybe that's why I'm sticking to it? XD

Anyways, enough crap... The intensive reading from uni life had caused my brain to work the way I didn't quite want it to (semiotics, representation, Las Meninas...ngaaah). Ain't wanna waste my life on questions that can't be answered with the limits of my vocabulary...... I'm not so intelligent...

June 2001... transition from poster paints to alchoholic markers. At first, wanted his eyes to be yellow, but the purple came in and it looks pretty nice to me. So made it one purple one yellow (which was covered up), a bit of story there.

June 2002 - Markers and crayons. Yea, the cute cute one. I got a bit hooked to Arina Tanemura's art aside from CLAMP's.

June 2003 - trying out watercoloring that time, but the paper is still the same drawing block paper you get in popular. Didn't know about Brahs Besar then.

May 2004 - Doesn't seem to change much other than settling that he should play with shadows....

22 Jan 2009 - Watercolors and gouache on saunders waterford. What was I doing in between? Can't remember much, but Houshin Engi came in around then, I think...

Gotta agree that time doesn't means skill. I'm still lacking the anatomy, n I realised that my paintings still lack a sort of free feeling, probably too tied up... Gonna start looking with new perspectives and angles. Forget about styles maybe, and I wanna finish that $76 worth of printing credits before this sem ends. It'll be a waste to let the school scrap it away when Yr 2 starts. (See la, the mind keeps skipping...n I'm hungry...)

Some videos from Group 1!

Yeah, one of our groupmates had uploaded some videos done by our group in the past semester. It was a 4D project whereby we had to come up with a few lines of dialogue and using that dialogue to create a video. There are some really captivating ones and some really funny ones that I enjoy watching over and over. Just a few of them:

By Pei Xuan. A pretty heartwarming one.

By Xinni. The dialogue was a simple 'Oi, Kiam pah, Lai ar' (x2), but the treatment to it was quite hilarious.

This one is a simple storyline, but the drama greatly reminds one of those Taiwan (Ah seng etc.) dramas. By ChongCong

I don't quite understand this video, but I kind of like the angles she chosen for the vid. Feels very serious and heavy...By Beryl

This is the ultimate... It spoiled the actress's image once and for all....XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD By the 'lady who squashed the cockraoch', Ping Ting

Still waiting for the rest to be uploaded! Catch them all at http://www.youtube.com/user/ameliacai Mine's not up yet, but compared to these, it's way too raw, heck....

Poster again

Yeap, tried touching up the poster a bit, cos the competition is kinda still open :D Anyways, nothing much but color changes, and yes! Back to the old layout....

At least this weekend I get to breathe a bit....

Welcome back to Hellie~!

Yeap, new sem, new book for drawing!! (To think that it's left with a few pages.... -_-) Gonna call the front art 'First Page Freedom' tee heeee... Anyways, it's drawn out of sian-ness of art history. Gotta cram 60 pages of hardcore text in my head by tonight and here I am doodling away...... die die die....

With the recent playing around with watercolors, I finally tried out the brush pen I've bought from James before leaving Scrawls, and hey, it's really fun! While cleaning up my pencil case a few weeks ago, I suddenly thought of stuffing my old Daler and Rowney watercolor set inside it. As I'm now using tubes of holbein paint (a gift from Huiying!), the D&R set was kind of cast aside.... It was quite a waste seeing such a compact portable watercolor set collecting dust (and the colors are artists quality...), so now it's now travelling with me! XDXDXDXDXD

One of the pages of the drawing homework assigned, was painting Ping Ting >_< She has this habit of putting her left elbow on the table and the hand kind of stabling her hair from covering her face while she works on her drawings. Caught her with that pose in my sketchbook a few times XD Anyways, the brush tip isn't broad enough to do huge strokes, and I kinda need to work fast as the brush kind of dries up when I'm in the middle of painting a long stroke. However, that kind of creates a different style from what I usually do. Kind of interesting :D

And the 2D assignment that kind of got me back to the habit...

We were told to do a poster on some art trip to Japan (I think the lecturer is serious about the trip... cos she sort of made it a poster-making competition and is planning to print the winning piece out to be publicly shown). I had some hard time brainstorming, and did the piece in late night from 1am to 7am... At least I got some 3 hours sleep before that. However, the size was too big. I thought A2 is double the A3 size... so when the new document box came out in illustrator, I doubled both the height and width, making it A1 instead. Only realised my error at the print shop, forcing me to amend my poster on the spot, changing some stuff here and there. They was subtle changes, yet the impact was strong. I wasn't satisfied with it in the end, but heck, it's either that or dead-line. T_T Ah well.... learnt something new anyways... double size means double the height....

Erza Scarlet

Erza from Fairy Tail. Recently Chuang Yi released the 12th book which continues Erza's miserable tale from the previous book. Kind of sad though...... Anyways, did this while waiting for another piece of watercolor painting to dry up. It's night time when I was doing both of them, a pretty chilly weather outside, paints don't dry fast in this damp weather, so went ahead with copics for this one. Initially wanted to do a random-no-meaning character art, but end up squeezing that bastard in the picture too. (Wonder if he will be back again? He seems like some ultimate baddie...)

...the head doesn't look like it belonged there.... Miss Sunshine called while I was doing the highlights, and halfway through the chatting, I accidentally dropped the brush which was loaded with white acrylic onto the hair area.... So yeah, it formed some track-like pattern that I decided to do more of it, since the picture has been destroyed... An interesting touch though, haha, maybe more accident should happen to my painting processes.

PC Down....

Morning scenario:
T_T....

My house computer is gonna die soon..... I've set it to sleep mode and forgetfully turned off the main power switches...thinking it was shut down... so now.. it doesn't seem to be 'waking'.... I'm currently typing this from my half-dead laptop which has half of it's lcd screen bonkers..... Hopefully, the home pc will work again soon.... It's been 8 years.... noooooooooo..........noooooooooo....

Evening Scenario...

Great..so now it's back! I can post my painting now! Xiu come back on time nia.... we need to decide what to do with this PC before it dies away...

Another painting, this time a landscape. Feels no different from what I do usually... I had a hard time thinking what to emphasize and all, maybe the details of the picture scared me. Seems like there's quite a number of problems to solve for landscape paintings.... The salt technique doesn't always work for me.... I'll need to practise more of it....

New attempts (Zone Tailed Hawk)

Recently, I've borrowed a few books on watercolors, and this one by Anne Blockley, called Watercolor Textures kind of sparked my interest in looking into the subtley abstract sort of painting. I've been telling myself to break away from the usual way of painting and drawing, but all these while, it's hard to change old habits. (Which probably had stopped me many times from enjoying art-making....) I went to flip those picture books and decided on painting this Zone Tailed Hawk (from a 'birds of prey' book).

It started off with a question mark, not knowing what colors to use, but I really wanted to emphasize the beak and the gleam in the eye, so decided maybe i'll just play along with the paints and see how things go. Added some salt in the backgroud, some splatter of paints here and there, gouache to lighten the dark and flat surface. The painting process was pretty fast, and after about 3 hours this came out:

Was quite happy with the fact that I could finally bring myself to do some messy random work instead of trying to duplicate the picture as it is. (yea, realised I have no patience for that anyways... which turned me off from the fine arty when I forced myself to.) Still raw at this, but hopefully, I will continue exploring with this medium :)
