Baby Boy Lamb Due December 1st

Baby boy is due December 1st! I always think I'm having a girl, and it's always a boy! I'll admit, I cried a little because this is most definitely, absolutely, positively our last baby. If I would have had all girls, I would've wanted a boy. I think I just wanted to experience life with both in our home. But now that we're here and our reality is a house full of boys, I am so excited. Andrew & Joshy are close in age and are best buds and I'm glad Connor will have a buddy of his own. It makes family trips simpler because we'll just always do the "boy" things. Instead of buying dresses and shoes and accessories for a baby girl, I'll be able to get them for myself instead! Boys are supposedly more cuddly and love their mama - I can attest to that having three boys. Cuddling is serious business to them. And most of the time they think I'm the best :). And we already know that we make very handsome boys, I am so looking forward to seeing this new one. Good thing we have Connor and he's still little because I've been snuggling him more these days to tide me over until baby gets here - 20 more weeks seems like too long to wait.

The ultrasound went well, he's measuring right on. The only thing that kind of bothers me is the radiologist requested a second set of pictures of the humerus (long arm bone). When I asked the technician if anything was off, she just said that they may want to do another ultrasound later on in my pregnancy and that my midwife would probably call me after seeing the report. Well, having a doctor husband came in handy, he was able to read the ultrasound report. It said that the anatomy measured correctly and no indications of Trisomy 21 (Down's), but that the baby had a dilated right kidney (mild pyelectasis) of 4.2 mm (the cutoff at 19 weeks is 4 mm). The left kidney was under 4 mm. I'll need to get another ultrasound after 32 weeks.

After doing some internet research, pyelectasis is a soft marker for Trisomy 21, but the baby usually presents with other markers, I think that's why the technician double checked the humerus, short bones are another marker for Down Syndrome. When it's isolated, the baby is most likely fine. And the fact that it's just in one kidney is also a good sign. And it's also very common in boys and about 1% of babies without abnormalities are diagnosed with it. It also usually resolves before the baby is born. So, I know I shouldn't worry, but of course I will until I see little baby boy.  This is why I never get the quad/NT screening done because I know if the results came out scary, I wouldn't be able to relax throughout my pregnancy, and those tests are notorious for giving false positives.  I know there are no guarantees for anyone. And if the baby has Down, he most likely will live a long life, so things could be a lot worse for sure if we have to go down that road.

Here is a profile shot of baby boy. He looks like his brothers. I'm voting for a Joshy look-alike since we already have an Andrew look-alike. Can't wait to snuggle him!

Boys, Boys & More Boys

It's a strange phenomenon, but the Medeiros cousins are REALLY REALLY good at making boys. Out of the 11 cousins, we have had 11 boys (including ours on the way) and 3 girls. There is one more baking (Bethany), but we don't know if it's a boy or girl yet.  We got together with two of our cousins Becky & Michael yesterday at This Is The Place.  We have all boys, 8 total!  Love each and every one of them!

Pseudo Mom

When mom or dad can't give him loves, Connor turns to big brother...

Cub Scouts

Andrew started Cub Scouts this month. Here he is with his friend Xidis before going to Day Camp.

4th of July

In the morning, we went to This Is The Place.  Joshy entered the watermelon eating contest and he won!  I've never seen anyone eat a watermelon like that!  He won by a landslide!  We also rode the ponies, the mini train, and panned for gold.  Connor loved panning for gold and getting wet!

In the evening we watched fireworks at Sugarhouse Park (no pictures).

He looks sad, but he's not.  That's how he takes pictures these days.
