Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #13

Today is the last day of Creativity Boot Camp. I'm a little sad because it was a lot of fun. However, Maegan is starting a new series called The Sunday Creative over at her personal blog.   Today’s prompt was “smile.”  That’s an easy one of course, but I chose a picture of one who is not often smiling in group shots!

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #12

Yesterday's assignment was "smooth." I had a hard time with this one. I think VBS has zapped my creativity! Here's Miriam "smoothing" out the rocks on the playground at VBS.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #11

Our assignment for yesterday was "hush". The first thing that popped into my mind was a hush puppy, but I didn't have access to one. So they next thing I thought of was putting your finger over your mouth and saying "Shhh!" like you do with kids. And when you're working at VBS all week with preschoolers, you do this alot.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #10

Our assignment today was "full-bodied". The only thing I could come up with was wine or an actual body. Since I already took a picture of my "baby belly" for one of these assignments, I chose my pregnant Willow Tree figurine.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #9

There was no journal assignment for today, but we were supposed to create in way we haven't in years. What is an easier way to do that than to be with preschoolers all day at VBS? Here's what we made today: a paper bag western vest, bandanas, and a paper cowboy hat.

Our assignment for today was "drizzle". At first, I thought of the rain or some type of syrup. I wasn't sure what I was going to do until I was doing a normal Monday chore and it came to me while I was "drizzling" the liquid Tide over the clothes.

Creativity Boot Camp #8

Today’s assignment is “ornament”.  Tracy saw this broken ornament on a drain cover during our Mommytography Meet & Shoot.  She told me to take a picture of it using her 50 mm lens.  So does it lend beauty to the drain cover?  Well at least I like the pop of green against the metal and I like the reflection of the buildings and tree in the ornament.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #7

Today’s assignment is “fly”.  I captured this bee flying around during my nature walk the other day.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #6

Yesterday our assignment was "fluid".  At first, I had trouble with this one.  But then I remembered that I was going to a Mommytography Meet & Shoot downtown where I would get my shot.

There are 3 things that are "fluid" in this photo: the Mississippi River, the traffic on the Mississippi River Bridge, and the Port of Baton Rouge. They are all constantly changing. Photobucket

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #5

Today, our assignment was "grow".  At first, I thought of plants/flowers and then my kids, but I had already taken pictures of them this week.  Then it came to me…what grows more than a pregnant belly.  Plus I haven’t really taken any belly shots this pregnancy.  I went outside to take them in front of some landscaping to also have another element of “grow” in the picture.  I put on my favorite maternity shirt that reads “Worth the Weight”, because I thought that represented the theme as well.  I took a couple of different shots, but once I got inside and looked at them, I wasn’t satisfied with the focus.  But it’s just too hot here to go back and take more…feels like 95 at 8:30 in the morning.  So I played around with a couple of different settings/actions in photoshop to create the following:Photobucket

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #4

Our assignment for today was “heavy metal.”  Of course, my first thought was the music category, but that’s not really my style.  My 2nd thought was our jambalaya cast iron pot but that’s at my parent’s house.  Then I looked outside and saw our patio chairs.  They’re made out of some type of metal and really heavy.  I can’t even pick them up…basically you have to slide them to pull them out from the table.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #3

Our assignment for today was “multilayered”. This one seemed a little more difficult. At first, I thought of a haircut, layers of clothes, and a piece of cake. Then I remembered this picture that I took yesterday and I thought it might apply. I looked up the definition of “multilayered” on dictionary.com and this is what it said for definition #2:
offering several viewpoints, solutions, degrees of complexity, etc.

This definitely applies to my life with these kids.

  • Luke - the oldest - an analytical child who gets upsets when he gets something wrong - a perfectionist
  • Cameron - the 2nd born child & boy - totally opposite of his brother - he's almost too laidback or indifferent
  • Miriam - the 3rd born & oldest girl - all I can say is "ATTITUDE!" - she thinks she's going on 16 with her tastes in clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses, makeup, etc.
  • Levi - the 4th born & youngest boy - he's a Mama's boy and our biggest cry baby!
  • Micah - the 5th born & youngest girl & baby - just turned the terrible 2 and likes to get into everything
  • and God only knows what #6 (due in July) will be like!

I like how they look like stair steps (and the AT&T bars) in this picture. They were doing this on their own while they were playing a game. The pictures definitely work out better when they prompt them! The lighting was off in the original picture so I thought making it black & white helped it look better.

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #2

Our assignment for today was "picnic". I don't know if it's creative or crazy for a mom that's 8 months pregnant to have a picnic outside in 100 degree heat with her 5 kids 7 years and under. In my journal yesterday, I wrote about having my kids help me in my creative pursuits...so this is what I get. Their faces are priceless and truly describe what they felt like as well as me!

Creativity Boot Camp Assignment #1

Our assignment was "ivory". The first thing that came to mind was a piano and an elephant. We no longer have the piano we were storing and I don't plan on going to the zoo anytime soon. Plus I don't think those would really be thinking outside the box.

I looked up the word ivory on dictionary.com and I chose the 2nd definition:
this substance when taken from a dead animal and used to make carvings, billiard balls, etc.

So that gave me the idea to take a picture of our bumper pool balls. I don't know if they're made from ivory or not, but it's something different for me to take a picture of.   Our bumper pool table is stored outside under our patio.  I like how you can see the reflection of the patio posts.  Also Miriam assisted me by holding the pool cue for me while I took the picture.
