Help this guy out... if you dare. Mmmmmwwwwahahahahahaha! Some people put a lot of effort into decorating their homes, yards and driveways. They may even construct life size replica graveyards or dungeons and invite people from the neighborhood to view their creations

Spider House. Halloween is celebrated in Canada on October 31. When the dark of the night arrives children dress up as ghosts, witches, skeletons, or characters from popular culture and go door-to-door, asking for candy while uttering the mock threat "trick or treat!"

Highway 407 Extension East

Presently under construction this new section of the 407 toll road is owned by the Ontario Government. The first phase (21.19 kilometres) is expected to be completed by late 2015. The construction value: $1 billion in 2012 dollars.

Thomas Foster Memorial

Thomas Foster visited India in his late seventies. After seeing the famous Taj Mahal, Foster was inspired to build a memorial in his boyhood community, with a Christian adaptation. The Memorial was erected in 1935-36, and cost $250,000. It contains three crypts for Foster (July 24, 1852 - December 10, 1945) a former mayor of Toronto, his wife Elizabeth McCauley and young daughter Ruby, who died at the age of 10.

Circling the lower part of the dome ceiling in gold lettering on a field of graded blue mosaic, is the inscription: "Take this my body for it is done and I have gained a new life, glorious and eternal".

The floors are terrazzo and marble mosaics with symbols such as the River Styx and water lilies.

This car was stopped travelling west and I was in my car stopped by the same train as I was heading north. No use wasting time so picked up my camera and started clicking.

Government Of Ontario Transit #3

Since May 1967, GO Transit has evolved from a single GO Train line along Lake Ontario's shoreline into an extensive network of train lines and bus routes.

As of July 2014, GO Transit's 117 double decker buses comprise nearly a quarter of the agency's fleet. While the buses aren't appropriate for every route, and while clearance issues may keep them off of certain roads, their importance cannot be overstated as the system's ridership increases.

Government Of Ontario Transit # 2

It seems that every CEO in public transit gets the urge to change the look of employees uniforms or the colours of rolling stock. In this case the coach on the right sports a slight change in colour that will be applied to all vehicles. In the industry it known as rebranding.

Government Of Ontario Transit #1

Abbreviated as "Go Transit", it is a commuter transportation system that is owned and operated by the Provincial Government. This train is operating on the major east west route. One interesting thing about this route is that regardless of direction, locomotives are always facing east.

When the train resumes west bound travel the engineer operates the train from last coach which now becomes the lead car. In the USA and Canada, they are called cab cars. Push-pull is a mode of operation for locomotive hauled trains allowing them to be driven from either end.

Glass Insulators

Continuing from yesterday's posting... I spotted these glass insulators on the poles beside the railway tracks. Walking along a rail line in Ontario you might get lucky and see the insulators on aging wooden telegraph poles At one time they were a very common sight. The earliest insulators were developed with the growing telegraph line network initiated in 1844.

Insulators were originally designed to keep the wires linking telegraphs and telephones insulated from the wooden poles that held them aloft. Made from glass or porcelain in a dazzling array of shapes and colors, including amber, cobalt blue, olive green, and royal purple. Today they are prized for their rarity and physical beauty and may sell for thousands of dollars.

Trackside

Me and my camera waiting at the side of the railway tracks hoping to take a picture of a moving train. I finally gave up. Tomorrow I will explain why I found the old poles on the left side of the tracks more interesting.

Signs - Sea Lamprey

The sea lamprey is a primitive, eel-like fish native to the northern Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic, western Mediterranean and Adriatic seas. They invaded the Great Lakes in the early 20th century through shipping canals. The sea lamprey uses its sucker mouth, sharp teeth and rasping tongue to attach itself to the body of a fish and suck the fish's blood. Fish that survive the attack are left with a large open wound that can become infected and often leads to death. The jumping ability of adult sea lampreys is limited, so barriers function to block adult access to spawning habitat and, therefore, reduce the amount of habitat that sea lampreys can infest. Shearwater Aviation Museum

Banshee, serial number 126402, is one of 39 Banshees purchased from the United States Navy. Banshee 126402 arrived at Shearwater in March 1957 and was flown by VF 870 Squadron from Shearwater and the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure . The Banshee was an all-weather fighter, which primarily provided air defence for the fleet. It was retired from the Navy in September 1962 and donated to the Shearwater Aviation Museum. This aircraft was displayed outdoors until 2000 where it deteriorated in the corrosive maritime weather. It was brought indoor and refurbished by volunteers from 12 Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and is now on display, in pristine condition, in the museum's #2 hangar.

Salmon Migration

The annual fall salmon run has begun. These guys and gals are in the Bowmanville Creek going upstream with one thing on their mind... sex

The fish ladder is new this year. Last year 10,000 salmon and trout were bucketed or netted to get them around the dam. The rainbow trout do their migration in the spring.
