Tile Backsplash

Well, I finally got my tiles fired. Although the tree turned out well, the tile at the base of the tree is badly warped and most of the field tiles have bubbles in them. So I won't be installing it in my kitchen...which is really disappointing. But here are a couple of shots of it layed out.

Been Painting

This last one is a small picture of some salt and pepper shakers that came from my grandmother.

New Artist Trading Cards

I am doing another swap with my ATC group. We had to do our cards in the style of Anne Bagby ( http://www.annebagby.com ). So here is what I did. All of the faces are hand drawn. My scanner scanned them a bit bright...oh well.

P.S. My ATC group just chose the card above for the week's homepage art!

School Mural

Well, I am very excited. This weekend we started the installation of our 6 1/2 by 16 feet tile mural. We got all but 4 tiles up on the wall. I took some pictures of it this morning. You can see how it covers the whole wall. There are 416 6 inch tiles all hand textured and glazed by the students (Kindergarten through 5th).

Painting Practice

I've been trying to learn painting from books. I've discovered it is not the best way to learn, but at least it makes me paint.

This is a folded piece of colored paper.

This is a still life of a coffee cup and a rock.

And, this is a lesson out of a book without looking at a real flower, just the picture that someone else painted. So I tried to change it somewhat and got very lost.

Cover Your Eyes

This is a colored pencil sketch I just did that I am going to paint. It's kind of a spring thing. It has to do with censorship and what we hide from our youth to protect them. The drawing began as an interest in a shape in my carpet and morphed from there.

Georgia is Finished

I have finished the Georgia O'Keeffe collage. It is inspired from her painting of oriental poppies. I used acrylics, water-sol paint crayons, mulberry paper and some printed paper. Click on the pic for a larger view.

Georgia Collage Beginning

I've decided to do a series of artist collages. The first one is going to be my favorite, Georgia O'Keeffe. I've drawn her face, then I will add paint to it and use it as a collage element on a panel.
