White Tower Layout

In the center of the Tower of London is the White Tower, the original building William the Conqueror had constructed in the 1070s to bring the fierce and fickle Londoners under his control. One of the main exhibits inside is the Line of Kings, a massive display of armor that opened in the late 1600s. We took lots of photos of this exhibit, but I decided to put most of them in pocket pages, so my journaling about the history of the White Tower and the collection will also be in the pocket pages. For today, I just scrapbooked the exterior of the Tower.

It's time for the last of the Scrappy Olympics challenges over at Lasting Memories, and this week we need to add some gold to our layouts  as we Go for the Gold! To scrap these photos of my son's Special Education class open house, I grabbed a gold photo hanger and some gold brads to add a little shine to my layout. Tintin Haircut Layout

My son had long hair for several years, but one day decided to cut it all off in favor of a Tintin haircut, which is short all over except the front, which sticks up like the cartoon character. I found an image of Tintin on the internet and created a cut file in Cricut Design Space, then put the silhouette next to my son's head. Aren't the haircuts similar? The circle sticks up off the page a little, something I don't often do, but I like the look of it. Hope you do as well.

I created a pocket behind the framed photo for the journaling tag, so here it is:

Recipe:
Flight of the Arrows stamp set
Soda Pop & Hip Hip Hooray papers
Nectarine, Lagoon, Sundance & Black cardstock
Nectarine, Lagoon, Sapphire & Sweet Leaf ink
Black marker
Lagoon ribbon
White glitter enamel dots (Eyelet Outlet)

Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge: tag
Cricut Design Space: Tintin Silhouette
Pattern: EMS Sketch Challenge #94

Challenges: Color My Heart Color Dare #612 - used the top row with Pumpkin (subbed Nectarine) + Limeade + Sundance and the right column with Sundance + Lagoon + Sapphire

Inkspirational #322 Mood Board - inspired by colors (similar to above challenge) and the layered plates and the ombre chevrons.

A Day at the Beach Layout

Happy Independence Day to all you crafty people in the USA! Hope you have a wonderful day with family, celebrating our independence. And now, on to my layout. I went to town with my Cricut on this one, cutting out a bunch of beach and summer themed items to go along with the beach photos I was scrapping. The beach tote ended up being a lot of fun to put together; I popped it up using 3-D foam tape so that I could slide the mini book with my journaling inside it. Took me back to my childhood when I would create miniature books for my Barbies!

My Happy Place papers & stickers (Doodlebug Designs)

SBTS 2017 Layout for Lasting Memories #705

It's Sunday again, and that means another fun challenge from Lasting Memories. This month, Jill is challenging us to use some favorite things, and today's item is a favorite tool. I love my Cricut, so I considered using that, but I also love my stamps, so I decided to feature a few of them; I stamped and colored in the hand and picnic basket, plus I stamped my title. We would love to have you join us to show off a layout using your favorite tool, so click on the link above to get the details!

These photos were taken at performances of Shakespeare By the Sea in San Pedro.

Smile Layout

I leave on an Alaskan cruise on Friday evening, so I am trying to cram in as much scrapping as possible between packing and getting my daughter's homeschool grades finalized - not a busy week at all! I managed to finish this layout up, celebrating Father's Day with my family plus another family, and I used the fun smile title that I stamped using a new stamp set, then fussy cut. I don't do a lot of fussy cutting anymore because it's so much easier to cut things on my Cricut, but this turned out to be a perfect title to go with the beautiful smiles in the photos.

Recipe:
Your Smile & All the Details stamp sets
Brothers papers & stickers (Echo park)

A Real Genius Made Me Layout for Lasting Memories #702

This month is flying by, and it's already time for another Lasting Memories challenge. This time we are taking our inspiration from the movies. I was scrapbooking pictures of the pre-school class at our 2017 vacation Bible school, where the theme was about being created for a purpose; I chose the 1980s movie Real Genius because I already had a sticker that said Genius on it, and the rest of the title flowed from there. I had no paper that worked just right for this layout, so I created my own using a gear-themed stamp set. The LM design team would love to see how this theme inspires you, so feel free to link up your completed layouts over at our blog!

I also put some extra photos in a facing pocket page and created a journaling card using Honey Butter cardstock and a bunch of stamps. It was lots of work doing the journaling, but totally worth it!

Recipe:
Gear Up, Limited Edition & Stacy's Hand Alphabet stamp sets (+ 8 others I used for the journaling!)
January - March 2023 Mix-in papers
Mist, Capri, Nectarine & Honey Butter cardstock
Sapphire, Capri, Nectarine & Honey Butter ink
Field Trip puffy phrase stickers (American Crafts)
Star Attraction Shape Sprinkles (Doodlebug Designs)
Sunflower embroidery floss
Cricut Artiste cartridge: gear
Pattern: Got Sketch #10 (can't post here due to permission issues)
Challenges: Color My Heart Color Dare #600 - used top row with Pumpkin (subbed Nectarine since I don't have Pumpkin) + Mist + Sapphire and right column with Sapphire + Capri + Honey Butter

Time Out Challenges #263 (hopefully the genius sticker is big enough - LOL!)

Capture the Moment Layout

Elliot's school holds a luau every year, and the year that they included the laser tag course was a huge hit for him. Since these pictures were taken at a luau and my son was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, I went with Hawaiian themed papers and embellishments instead of gun and camo. However, I wrapped some orange embroidery floss around one of the photos as a nod to the laser beams on real lasers, fortunately absent in this game!

Summer Vibes papers & cardstock stickers

Elliot's Ancestor Day Layout

I finished my eldest son's elementary school album last month and decided to keep the momentum going by working on my second son's album this month. Ancestor Day is a 2nd grade tradition at the local elementary school, and it's always interesting for my kids since they were all adopted. We have no contact with Elliot's birth mom (her choice), so he picked my mom as his ancestor to interview and write a report about, which he summarized for the class. Unfortunately, she lives far away so she could not attend the event itself, but we enjoyed hearing about her and eating food from the various countries represented by the ancestors.

Recipe:
Timberline stamp set
Cosmopolitan Collection papers (Making Memories)
Kraft, Chocolate, Capri, Bluebird & Sapphire cardstock
Capri ink
Black & Sienna fineliner pens (iBayam)
White gel pen (Sakura)

Cricut You Are Here cartridge: globe, title
Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge: tags

Challenges: Double Trouble #163 Let's Get Crafty - Thing 1 = use kraft paper and corrugated cardboard + Thing 2 = play along with Inspiration Station's challenge photo #60 (see below) + Thing 3 = shades of blue (not sure I made them my focus but I used several shades)

Sing {Fishfest} Layout

I'm determined to get some serious scrapping done this month, so here's my first layout. I wrote quite a bit about this event (Fishfest, a Christian music festival in Southern California) when I scrapped the companion layout back in February, so I decided not to add a bunch of journaling. Instead, I just listed the names of the band/artists who performed, plus my hubby and son's names, by writing them around the bottom set of photos, then added some doodling for fun. For the background, I stamped and embossed the splatter stamp first, then brayered over the whole page using purple ink. The purple didn't come out as dark as I wanted, but I guess it shows up the photos pretty well, so it's all good!

Recipe:
Background Elements stamp set
White Daisy cardstock
Goldrush & Black ink
Lovely Lilac ink (SU)
Black marker
Clear embossing powder
Dimensional Elements Monograms chipboard - S,I,N,G
3-D foam tape
Pattern: Stick It Down April single page sketch from Facebook
Challenges: Color My Heart #593 Only Two (loved the Honey Butter and Royal color combo but didn't have either ink, so I did my best color match using old inks)

Laugh Layout for Lasting Memories #687

It's Sunday and that means another fun challenge from the Lasting Memories Challenge Blog. I got to think up the challenges for February, and they all go under the theme of We Go Together. The first one is simple: use complementary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel). I chose yellow and purple for my colors and was able to incorporate lots of both those colors. Even my photos have a bunch of yellow and purple. If you would like to join in with this challenge, click on the link above to get the details and to see the color wheel. Here's my layout.

Happy 2024, everyone! It's a new year, so I decided to create and share a new sketch. This one features four photos but still gives plenty of opportunities to show off any patterned paper you got for Christmas. I adapted mine because I wanted to cut off the long end of the 5" x 7" photo and include a longer photo next to it, so feel free to get creative with it and change it up to fit your needs. And don't forget to share your final project by linking it up in the comment section below!

Good morning everyone, and welcome back to the latest challenge for Lasting Memories. It has been fun to be the hostess this month, and here's my last challenge. Grateful for Words - use one of the following journaling techniques on your layout: a list, 50+ words, on a journaling card, digital or hidden. I chose to go with a journaling card on this one, and after searching through my stash, I found one I thought went well with the layout. Hope you think so, too, and are inspired to hop on over to Lasting Memories to play along with any of our Scrappy Gratitude challenges before the clock runs out on Saturday, December 2!

EMS Sketch Challenge #111 - Everybody Wants to Be a Cat

I haven't posted a new sketch since May, but as I was working with one of my older sketches, it kept morphing until it didn't look that much like the original, so I decided to create a new sketch based on my layout! You won't need a ton of patterned paper for this one, but even with four photos there is room to get creative and have some fun. As always, feel free to change things up a bit and please post a link to your completed layouts in the comments so I can enjoy how you used the sketch.

Here's the sketch:

Scrapping photos from my daughter's cat themed birthday party has been a rather hodgepodge affair, so this layout actually goes before the one I posted on Sunday and after the one I posted in August. I think I am now in chronological order, though, so it's all good. The title for this layout was based on the song from the Aristocats, but I decided to keep the second "e" in "Ev'rybody" since it looked better on my layout. Anyway, here's my layout:

Recipe:
Stacy's Hand Alphabet stamp set
Chloe papers (Bella Blvd)
Toffee and Pear cardstock
Chocolate, Pear, Orange & Lagoon ink
Burnt Sienna fineliner pen (iBayam)
Chloe chipboard Icon stickers (Bella Blvd)
Chloe stickers (Bella Blvd)
Cat Lover stickers (Photoplay)
Orange embroidery floss
My Happy Place Shape Sprinkles (Doodlebug Designs)
Cats & Bats enamel dots
Cricut Artbooking cartridge: large heart

March Madness Layout

August has been a busy month for me with a family vacation and getting ready for another year of homeschooling, so I have had a hard time getting creative with my scrapbooking. The same photos have been lying on my desk for several weeks, waiting to be scrapped, but I finally found some mojo this week thanks to a few scrappy challenges, so here is my layout at last! Fittingly, the title reflects the topic of the layout: the busyness of March 2017.

All the butterflies and some of the flowers started out white, and since I had lots of fun coloring them, I wanted to share a few extra shots of them so you can see how pretty the colors are:

Recipe:
Laughing Lola, Splendor & March/April Mix-Ins paper packs
Goldrush, Thistle cardstock
Goldrush, Thistle, Topiary & Whisper ink
Black marker
White gel pen (Sakura)
Summer Vibes PML card
