Opal May Allison, 84, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Poteau.  Opal was born March 8, 1928 in LeFlore, OK to Bert & Eller (Hindricks) Robison.  She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.  Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Thomas Ferguson and Joe Allison; brothers, James Everett, Johnny & Bill Robison; sister, Mary Stephens; daughter, Flossie Mae Ridner; and great grandson, Greyson Hunt.

Mossie Lene Farrar, 88, of Cameron, OK passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in Poteau, OK.  Mossie was born April 7, 1924 in Liberty Hill (Cameron), OK to Tom & Pearl (Fox) Anderson.  She was a beautician.  Mossie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lenard Farrar; sister, Lois Dunlap; and granddaughter, Fatima.

Survivors include her daughters & son in law, Barbara Mackey of Cameron, OK, Donna & Charles Hollingsworth of Cameron, OK; sons & daughter in law, Larry Farrar of Cameron, OK, Steve & D. Services will be 2 pm, Friday, January 25, 2013 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Cameron, OK with Rev. George F. Prado, 66, of Spiro, OK passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in Fort Smith, AR.   George was born April 10, 1946 in Texas.  He worked construction. He attended Bethel Lighthouse Full Gospel Church in Panama, OK.  George was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister & 2 brothers, stepson, Rocky Calhoun, step granddaughter, Joyce K. Calhoun.  He loved to work outside and building crafty things.

(Collins) Durant.   She was a homemaker. She also worked at McDonald’s in Walmart.   Pearl was a member of Double Branch Baptist Church.    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Bost; 3 brothers, Johnny George, Carl Willis and Walter Noah Durant.

Brenda Lee Reece, 64, of Poteau, OK passed away with her family by her side Friday, January 11, 2013 in Poteau.  Brenda was born August 10, 1948 in Modesto, CA to Bill (J.D.) & Lorene (Williams) Gibson.  She was a homemaker.  Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael Wade & Olen James Reece.  Brenda was loved by all who knew her, loved her family more than anything, and loved spending time with her husband on the back of his Harley.  Ride on Brenda…. James Newton Smith, 77, of Pocola, OK passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 in Fort Smith, AR.  James was born July 29, 1935 in Tulsa, OK to Jasper N. & Bessie (Phillips) Smith.  He was a carpenter. 

James is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home; daughter, Tonya Rockwell  of Tulsa, OK; sons, Randy Smith  and Mike Smith of Tulsa, OK; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Alice Faye Weaver



Alice Faye Weaver, 68, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 in Poteau.  Alice was born November 12, 1944 in Monroe, OK to James Calvin & Dovie Melvina (Faulkenberry) McKenzie.  She was a homemaker.  Alice was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, James and nephew, Shawn Kersh.

Survivors include her husband Chesley of the home; daughter & son in law – Belinda & Brian Toney of Poteau, OK; son & daughter in law – Bryant & Carolyn Weaver of Panama, OK; sister & brother in law, Diana & Jim Kersh of Shady Point, OK; 5 grandchildren, Brant & Blane Toney of Poteau, OK, Trae Weaver of Poteau, OK, Destini & Kelsea  Perry of Panama, OK; nieces & nephews, Kevin & Nyomi Kersh of Jewell, IA, Jennifer, Jace, Jaylind Renteria of Shady Point, OK; Karin, Jordan, Camrin, & Brycen Kersh of Iverness, FL; other relatives & family; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Barry Reel,  Brant Toney, & Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will be in Springhill Cemetery, Monroe, OK.  Pallbearers will be Brant Toney, Blane Toney, Bryant Weaver, Brian Toney, Keith Henson and Leo Ritter.

The family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Chris Grindstaff



     Christopher Edward Grindstaff, 25, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in Baton Rouge, LA.  Chris was born February 5, 1987 in Oklahoma City, OK to Bruce & Diana (Johnson) Grindstaff.  Chris was a fire alarm technician with J.E. Systems in Pocola.  He was an Eagle Scout, Troop 30 in Poteau.  Chris lived life to the fullest.  He enjoyed every experience along the way.  He loved his family and friends, and he found a friend in everyone he met.   Chris was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kenneth Johnson and uncle, Todd Grindstaff.
     Survivors include his parents, Bruce & Diana Grindstaff of Poteau, OK; grandparents, Dorothy Johnson Page of Poteau, OK, Harry & Barbara Grindstaff of Mustang, OK; aunts & uncles, Robin & John Ross, Mike & Debbie Grindstaff, Paula Grindstaff, Bill & Donna Lofthouse; cousins, Mike & Jeff Grindstaff, Joshua, Kenneth, & Douglas Lofthouse, Abby & Lynnley Grindstaff, Jade, Coby, & Eli Lofthouse; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.
     Services will be 3 pm Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Earl Curry



         Earl Curry, born February 6, 1935 to Isaac Frenzella (I.F.) and Myrtle (Ellis) Curry in Fisk, MO. Graduated to glory on January 2, 2013 at the age of seventy-seven years, ten months, and 27 days at his home in Wister, OK.  Earl was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers: George Isaac, Elmo and wife Virginia, and Tolbert and wife Mary; brother-in-law Ernest Walker, and sister-in-law Fannie Lou Curry.  Earl was an elder of the Poteau Church of Christ.  He worked for LeFlore County for 15 years; he was a carpenter for 40+ years. He finished the 10th grade  in Depoyster School in Missouri.

        Earl is survived by his wife Beulah (Keifer) Curry of the home. They were married on February 27, 1960. In the 52 years of marriage, they were blessed with one daughter Judy Evonne Curry born December 6, 1960 and preceded him in death on October 4, 1970, three sons and their wives: Clifton and Brenda of Conroe, TX, Curtis and Jackie of Porum, OK, Gary and Tonya of Huntsville, TX. Ten grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren:  Misty, husband Eric and son Nolan of Colorado Springs, CO, Christopher and Kent of Conway, AR, Michael and Kyle of Conroe, TX, Kevin and wife Kayla of Pocola, OK, Brad of Porum, OK, Amber Saldana, husband A.J., daughter Esme and son Blane of El Paso, TX, Cheyenne and Caitlyn of Huntsville, TX.  Three brothers: Ralph and wife Billie of Midwest City, OK, Wayne and wife Vesta of Poplar Bluff, MO, Vernon and wife Judy of Poplar Bluff, MO. Four sisters: Sybil Walker of Memphis, TX, Marie and husband Manley Gilpin of Searcy, AR, Eunice and husband Carrol Robertson of Alton, TX, Gladys and husband Everett Williams of Memphis, TX. Survivors also include a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
    Services will be 10 am, Saturday, January 5, 2013  at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Ron Babbit & Paul Fletcher officiating.   Interment will be in  Ellis Chapel Cemetery, Wister, OK.   Pallbearers will be the LeFlore County District # 2 workers.    Honorary Pallbearers: Lance Smith, Jim Seale, Bob Carter, Bob Marchant, Bud Morgan, Cliff Morgan, and Billy Meeh.
        The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
