Maverick asked all year if he could pick his own Halloween costume instead of a group costume. I relented. We settled on a snake type costume. I did all the shopping. I was thrilled I found the perfect snake scale fabric for $2/yard. Then he changed his mind. I told him he had to pick something we already had at home. Lark was her spirit animal "Poppy" from Trolls. So I made Olive also dress up as a Trolls character, "Tiny Diamond". It was Autumn's dream that everyone in the family dress as the characters of Avatar: The Last Air Bender. Alas Violet appeased her so they were a "group" costume as Korrah and Toph.
So pre Halloween photos.
Poppy insisted on the "hug time" bracelet from the second movie.
Barefoot Toph and Korrah without her blue ribbons.
Evan got lucky and took a day off of work while the kids were out of school for parent-teacher conferences. So I convinced Evan to get a hotel in Denver and Evan's parents were also able to join us. We left early Friday and swam as soon as we got to the hotel. We enjoyed the lazy river, the indoor and outdoor pool and Lark's favorite the hot tub.
and off course the big girls insisted on getting their own shaved ice which they didn't even eat half of.
After swimming we explored the large hotel and convention center. We did the Halloween themed scavenger hunt and looked at the carved Jack-o-Lantern.
We Trick-or-Treated at the hotel and got some high quality candy and lots of trinkets.
Maverick ended up using his existing Spider-Man costume and we turned it into "Peter Porker" from Spider-Man into the Spider Verse.

Evan and I dressed up as some characters from one of my favorite current shows "Schitt's Creek".
Trick or Treat
We had a great time watching the kids play games with one of the hotel staff.
The next morning we went swimming again. The patio was heated!
There was a hawk/owl exhibit.
We checked out of the rooms and went back so the kids could do a Halloween craft. the four big kids really loved it.
We had a wonderful trip! It was great to do something different and spend lots of time together.
Lark found so dirt!
On actual Halloween night Olive decided to wear what she's worn for nearly every day for the last three weeks. Lark refused to wear any clothes. She insisted since we trick-or-treated the night before at the hotel that she wouldn't dress up until next year. Evan had to put her snow pants on by force. Maverick also switched up his costume to Thanos. People were very generous this year and multiple homes passed out full size candy bars.
This clever house put the candy out in the yard! The Davidson's eventually caught up to us and we went about a street with them before the kids were too tired. Olive fell asleep in the car before we made it home. We did make one last stop at our neighbor's house who had an impressive Halloween display. They made special bags for all our kids!
