In a few days
In a few days (or hours... we shall see), our family of three will become a family of four. I am excited to meet our son, but at the same time not looking forward to the sleep-deprived first few weeks. Can't believe Eric and I are going to go through another change in our life together. Just thinking about staying over for in the hospital for a few nights makes me think about Erin. I'm going to miss her a lot. Eric has promised that he'd bring her to see me everyday. But the truth is, we've never been apart since she was born. I'm wondering how she's going to react to a baby brother, how she's going to be without me around all the time for a few days, and feeling nervous that her life is about to change, too. It will no longer be just Erin and us. She will have to share us and everything else in her life with her new brother. I truly hope and pray that they will grow up enjoying the company of each other.

Lesson of Humility
The other stormy night, Eric came back and told me about this young homeless woman he saw at our neighborhood shopping center trying to seek shelter from the rain. Of all the overhangs in the shopping center, she chose to sit under the smallest, shortest one, probably because that was the only store that had closed for the evening at the time. She was getting wet from the rain. He went and got her an umbrella from the store then came home and told me about her. It's not everyday that we see homeless people in our neighborhood. We then went through our pantry and made her a care package. He went back to give it to her and found her to be crying while holding her umbrella sitting with her belongings.
My heart ached when I heard about this young woman. With the economy today, you just never know about people's story. You don't know what she's been through, or even the checkout lady at the grocery store, or the waiter serving you at a restaurant. Maybe they're going through some crazy hardship that I cannot fathom for myself or my family. I count myself as lucky, but the older I become, I'm realizing that I'm truly living under God's grace and mercy. I used to see so many homeless people in college, and have become jaded from their reactions from when I tried to help them (like refusing the food I offer them, asking for something different than what I wanted to share with them)... but these days, with the different people I meet and hearing their stories, I'm realizing I need to look beyond myself. Really, what would Jesus do in those situations?
When I had to go to the store the next morning, I didn't see her there. I hope she was able to find the help that she needed. We actually tried to call around that night to help find a shelter for her... but unfortunately and surprisingly, we couldn't find any for a metro area this big. Wherever she is now, I hope she's ok.

Aaahhh... It's April already?!
I've been busy for the past few months with various things. Little Erin is now officially a toddler. Keeping up with her has become a full-time business. I still can't believe how big she's grown. It amazes me everyday that this little baby who was inside of my belly not long ago has tripled in weight and grown more than a foot in the past few months!
Now our family of three is growing to become a family of four! We are expecting a baby boy in September. I suppose this busy-ness of life is not going to end anytime soon around here!

It's 2010?!
The holiday season seemed like a whirlwind. I can't believe half of January is gone already. We spent Christmas here in Atlanta, then went on to Puerto Rico with my family for New Year's. Poor Erin caught a cold in time for our trip. The highlighst of our trip was vomiting for the first night, fever for the second night, and couging for the third. Despite being ill, she was a trooper. That was her first cold and first fever. I can't emphasize enough handwashing!!
She is growing up too fast. One year ago, she was still swaddled up in a blanket. Now she is an opinionated, smiley, active little toddler. Ok, she's not quite walking yet. She's just cruising. She grunts and points at things until you get the right item for her. She is very active. On a recent plane ride, the person next to me said, "she is nonstop!" Yup, she sure is nonstop. She has also become very, very picky with what she eats. Unfortunately, she loves cheese, the one food and only group I detest. Making mac and cheese just makes me want to hurl sometimes.
Happy New Year!
