Money

And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

A phone call came this morning from a good friend who is on the different side of the moon. It was a good chat as he shared about his 2nd time experience attending a church in Illinois, 20 miles away from his house. A mega church of 20,000 members strong. That’s double our current strength! What’s interesting was the pastor talked about the subject of money. Familiar topic as Ps Khong always tells us that somehow there’s this invisible string connecting our purse to our heart. How would you define a rich man? A rich person is not one with lots of money. Rather, a rich person is one who is contented with what he has. For that is true financial freedom. Comparison will not help. Yearning for more will never give you that kind of contentment.

Many times as Christians, we hold back, we think of the many other reasons we can invest our money in other than investing in the kingdom of God. I still remember even as a mature Christian, there was a time I rationalised to put the money supposed to be set aside for tithing into some study fund, that well, seemed very logical and right…in the eyes of men. Yet Joyce once challenged me, to still choose to give it to God and see what He can do. And God proved His point. I gave my tithe and I still graduated out of university.

An example was shared with me this morning about the pastor from this mega church. He used the analogy of himself bringing his family to MacDonald’s for a meal. After queuing and placing the food before his children, he reached for some fries. His son immediately tapped his hand and said, “Keep off my fries!”Isn’t it an irony that we sometimes tell God not to touch our finances, not to spoil our plans, not to interfere, when He was the one who gave us our every need? True richness is never having to worry…. not that we do not plan…. we still need to plan…just don’t hold onto them so tightly.God gave them to us in the first place.

Matthew 6

Do Not Worry25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Psalm 24 (in Afrikaans)

24:1 'n Psalm van Dawid. Die aarde behoort aan die HERE en die volheid daarvan, die wêreld en die wat daarin woon;
Sela.

Here's the English translation....

Psalm 24
Of David. A psalm. 1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
2 for he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.

3 Who may ascend the hill of the LORD ?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to an idol
or swear by what is false. [
a]
5 He will receive blessing from the LORD
and vindication from God his Savior.
6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, O God of Jacob.

This is a snapshot of my working area. Not exactly very neat but I am trying my very best already.

I am not one who can embrace new things very well. I treasure the old, no matter how old. Down to the little satchet of shampoo from Vryheid's Oxford Lodge in 1996. The smell of it somehow transports me back to South Africa. Yet I like to throw stuff away as well. Was taking pictures of some frames hung in my room. They are gifts from my sister's previous love interest. I don't think I can find anything given to me by past loves. Not many in the first place, the rest have probably been sent to the incinerator long ago. I still remember the sadness when I kissed Mookie goodbye and threw her down the chute. Goodbye.

Change, no one likes. Resistance, we all put up. Yet the only way to improve is change. Wouldn't it be sad if we all remain at our present state for the next 10 years. There would be no growth if for each year, we are but repeating the same things. Absolutely no growth. Does your graph have an ascending pattern or is it only reflecting a regular pattern of ups and downs? I pray I do not go through 10 years or the same cycle. How about you?

2 Corinthians 5:17
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

Unknown to Men, Known to God

Posted by Hello This was the day I brought my team out for a solitude. They were only told to bring a water bottle, bible, notebook and come to Kranji MRT dressed in light clothing. XX asked me if she needed to bring a passport, in case I planned to bring them to JB. It was a good time of reflecting, as we look at the countless tombs without names. We ended with a picnic. I think that was our last outing.

The Rose

Posted by Hello

Some say love
it is a river that drowns the tender reed
Some say love
it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love
it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love
it is a flower
and you its only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snow
lies the seed that with the sun's love in the spring
becomes the rose
