19 December 2013
After almost-6-grueling-months
of contemplation, today I selected my number plate. It all started on a
roadshow at e@curve showcasing the new Suzuki Swift. I’ve always like the
design of Suzuki Swift, but not so much the new design. Looking at the new
Swift really tingle my thoughts on cars. What will my first car be? Swift?
Myvi? Viva? And so, I started my intensive research on Swift and other cars. I’m
a person who likes to get things planned out to avoid mistakes, wastage, and
other unnecessary stuff, aka “smart shopping” XD Judging that Darren (my
younger brother) is getting his driving license soon and it’ll only mean one
thing. I’ll no longer have the privilege of driving my Dad’s big luxury car. On
a side note, I am so thankful that I get to drive my dad’s car for..hmm..I
started around July 2012, well over a year now. I have no words to show my
gratefulness to my father, all I can say is ribuan terima kasih kepada ayah
kesayangan mu. (reverse and bang to a BMW, fixed and respray paint, a motorcycle
bang onto the side mirror, I bang the front left side to the pillar, a big dent
at the back of the car, llumar tinting).
Not too long after
spotting Suzuki Swift, Honda announced the price of Honda Jazz is reduced from
RM99, 800 to RM74, 800 (That is one hella big cut-due to the switch of local
assembly production). Immediately, the Honda Jazz earned its way to my “list”. After
a few discussions with my parents, we conclude that it’s not suitable for me to
get a car that is price around RM75k. With my heavy heart, I start to look at
Myvi and Viva. But being my stubborn-self, I’m still keen. So, I did a rough
financial planning and realize that I am capable, given that I have to put in bigger
chunk of money, cling onto my job and work my ass off and no more impulsive
shopping, more like no more shopping for me now.
Initially, Swift was the
top of my list, but after much discussion with my car-enthusiast-friends, I
pretty much have my heart set on Jazz. Later on, I found out that Honda is
giving out major rebate on Jazz Hybrid, it’s that kinda promotion that happens
once a year or not at all, ahhh-let’s just say it’s a great great deal. Which
mean I could possibly get a new car for myself much earlier than I planned,
which I am not financially and psychologically ready. After extensive homework
done, I quickly make my way to Honda showroom with Carrie and Darren *so I can
propose to my dad XD*. Unfortunately, there was only disappointment. To enjoy
the great great deal, the car has to be registered before 31st Jan
2014, while the waiting list is all the way up to March 14. I think to myself,
I’m gonna miss this great great deal.
I confess my
disappointment over dinner at Kampachi, Troika to my parents on 14 Dec 2013.
That’s when my mom reminded me that she has good network with Honda Tenaga
Setia. I see glimpse of light, but I don’t wanna have my hopes up. We make way
to the Honda showroom the next day (15 Dec 2013) together gether with Seng gor
aka car-enthusiast. We were warmly greeted by the people at Honda (thanks to
mom’s connection). My first question was, “I want Jazz Hybrid, but with the
rebate, can?” he (Honda sales person) answered “mou men tai, ngor jou pei lei”.
For a moment there, my world started spinning really fast and in the same time
really slow. From that day on, everything just falls into place nicely, from
securing a unit, to applying loan and making payment. I bought my number plate
today, W 5576 J. Not the best number, but I selected it *it is, what it is*.
I just want to shout “achievement
unlocked” at the top of my lungs. I realize that I completed 70% of my life.
Kindergarden, check! UPSR, check! PMR & SPM, check! Foundation program,
check! Degree, check! Getting a job, check! And now getting my own car, CHECK!
CHECK! CHECK! I just want to remind myself, I’m one lucky 22 year old girl. All
this while, I’ve been looking at the bad side of my life and I need to put a
stop to it. Well Esther, give yourself some well deserved credit, you did well J
