I'd seen a few patterns online, but none of them seemed to be what I was looking for exactly. I wanted them to look a certain way, and also be able to hold a personalised message. So I came up with my own design - the Lucky Fortune Cookies!
For the personalised part of the cookie I used plain white paper - just simple printer paper - cut into strips and sewn into the opening of the cookie. This way you can write your own message on them. I also added a little face to each cookie, to add to the Kawaii :P
It turned out to be such a quick and easy pattern to follow - I made about 30 in one sitting! Most of the actual time making them comes from sewing on the face (which is optional) :P
So here it is - Lucky Fortune Cookies! Enjoy!
Lucky Fortune Cookies
You Will Need:
. Crochet Hook (I used 3mm)
. WW/Aran weight yarn in Beige
. Embroidery Needle/Yarn Needle
. Stuffing
. 2 Small Black Beads
. Black Embroidery Thread/Scrap Yarn
. Beige Sewing Thread
. Pink Pastels/Pink Blush
. Plain White Paper
Abbreviations
. Ch – Chain Stitch
. Sc – Single Crochet
. Inc (Increase) – 2 Sc into 1 St
. St/Sts – Stitch/Stitches
. Slst – Slip Stitch
. ** – Marks a group of stitches to be repeated until the round is completed
Gauge
. No gauge, just keep your stitches nice and tight to avoid gaps in your work
Finished Size
. 1.75inches/5cm tall (approx) using a 3mm hook and DK yarn
Other Info
. As this is amigurumi, work in continuous rounds; in a spiral. Don’t join at the end of a row; just keep going
. Use stitch markers or a piece of scrap yarn to mark the start of every round. Replace at the start of the next round as you go along. This will help you keep track of where you started, and saves a lot of time if things go wrong!
. Pattern is written in American Terms
. The number at the end of each round is the number of stitches you should now have
. I strongly recommend using a small hook i.e.- 3mm, to keep the proportions of the toy as they are in the pictures
Cookie Body
Ch 4. Join to make a Loop
1. Sc 8 into Loop (8 Sc)
2. Inc around (16 Sc)
3. *Sc 1, Inc* around (24 Sc)
4. *Sc, Inc* around (36 Sc)
5. *Sc, Inc* around (54 Sc)
Fold piece in half, and Sc shut, leaving a 4 Sc wide gap along this length (anywhere you fancy - it doesn't matter where :) )
*Bind Off, Weave In Ends*
Assembly
. Stuff the Cookie Body, through the 4 Sc wide gap you left. I found it handy to use a chopstick or pencil end to push the stuffing into the corners.
. Cut a length/lengths of paper approx. 8cm (3 inches) by 1cm (1/4 inches). Take one of these lengths and place the end 2cm's (2/3 inches) or so into the opening in the cookie.
. Using some beige/matching sewing thread, sew the opening closed, complete with the paper length. I found it easier to first sew the paper along one edge to one lip of the cookie, then go backwards and sew the opening shut. As you are using sewing thread, you shouldn't be able to see the stitches :)
. (Optional - But Cute!) Sew 2 small black beads to the bottom/front of the cookie Body (as pictured), along with an embroidered mouth. I also added some pink pastel/blush for little cheeks :)
. Cut a little V in the end of the paper length (Optional)
*You're Done!*
You can either leave the paper blank for someone to write on, or you can put a little saying on it yourself.
I hope you enjoyed the pattern!
Happy Crocheting!
