Babies do sleep after all

Gordon has gotten into a little routine lately which I absolutely love and I have discovered that newborn babies actually do sleep - HOORAY! His rigorous routine consists of eating, "playing," (rocking in his swing, diaper change, bath...etc), and then sleepy time. We just love this little boy!

Gordon's hair "part"

When Gordon was born Eric was very excited to see his full set of hair. This then led us to the topic of conversation, "Mariah where should Gordon's part be?" To this I thought, "What? A part on a newborn?... Right!" We brought Eric lunch at work today and while Eric was holding him we both noticed a little line in his hair (look closely to the left of his head and you may vaguely see it) which we decided represented Gordon's part. He's following in his daddy's footsteps very closely.
Oh and Gordon just LOVES these soft and silky blankets that Katri, my dear sister-in-law made. He rubs them on his face and nose, it's super cute!

Father Son Office Visit

Gordon and I have gotten to visit Eric at work for lunch quite a bit lately. It is so adorable to watch the two of them together. Gordon wore his blue Polo onesie so he would be dressed in business casual like his daddy.

Good Read

So here is my new FAVORITE baby/parenting book. Amy, one of my sweet friends recommended this book and said she learned a ton (especially being a new mother) about how to read her baby and meet her baby's needs. I just got the book on Wednesday and already I can't believe how much it has helped Eric and I.

Farewell Smokey

For Eric’s 15th birthday he wanted a kitty. The only problem was his dad had forbidden them to get any pets. This ultimatum did not detour his mom. On his birthday they went to the human society and selected an adorable black kitten and named him Smokey. For the first month, Eric kept him in his room and his dad did not find out. The only problem with the kitty being in the room with him is Eric happens to be allergic to cats. After a major blow up, Smokey was fully embraced as a family member and has been the best cat in the world. He is happy to jump on anyone’s lap and loves to be pet and cuddled. After 15 ½ years little Smokey passed away on Friday. We will miss seeing him when we go home and look forward to seeing him in Heaven (all dogs and cats go there J).

Happy Anniversary & Happy Father's Day!

Eric and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary yesterday (and 12th year together!) It seems like every year together just keeps getting better and better. Thanks honey for being such a wonderful father and husband, you make me smile each and every day and I am grateful for you in my life. It is a treat to watch you with little Gordon, it makes my heart melt! I LOVE YOU!

Mister Houdini

Gordon (aka Mr. Houdini) has had a difficult two weeks of sleeping at night. Okay, let’s be real, he basically screams at the top of his lungs at night until he is held or cuddled – Eric and I are beginning to feel like insomniacs.

I was talking to one of my sweet friends the other day and she suggested that we swaddle Gordon at night in a blanket. We tried this the first time we brought him home and he sweated through his blanket it was so sad (we think he has the cursed Metras sweat gene!) While my mom was here we actually bought a real “swaddler” with Velcro and all. Well, night one came and we wrapped him up like a little burrito in his swaddler and he wailed so we took it off of him. Night two and three we put him back in the swaddler and when we got up to feed him he had completely broken free and was sucking on his little fingers. He has found his hands and loves playing with them. He is such an active, funny, little boy and enjoys moving and being free. What are we going to do with our little Houdini?!?

Grandma Kat was in town

My mom came this past week and it was such a delight to have her here. Gordon loved being cuddled and loved by her. Eric said he forgot how to change diapers since she changed diapers the whole week. And I was in heaven having her positive and calming influence here in our home. As we drove home from taking her to the airport I cried like Gordon wishing we lived closer. I'm already counting the days until we get to see her at the end of July. Thanks mom, I love you!
Gordon's excited about the World Cup too!

Tax Deduction

Our sweet friends Celine and Cameron got Gordon this present which we thought was very funny and cute. Anyone who knows Eric, knows that he loves talking about how children are the greatest tax deduction. Thanks for the cute gift you guys! We can’t wait for your little one to join the world!

World Cup has begun

I'm super excited to watch some great soccer in the upcoming weeks. I have a couple of buddies that are over there in South Africa right now and I can't wait to hear all about their adventures. It seems like just yesterday (the summer of 1998) that Emi and I were in France watching world cup games, what an amazing experience!
Chris Ziemer, my long time coach and friend is over there and has a blog which is super fun to read.

Where’s Waldo

My super TALENTED aunt Kristin knitted this ADORABLE sweater and matching hat. We just got it in the mail yesterday and couldn’t wait to put him in it despite the fact that it’s in the 70’s here. It is such a CUTE outfit and we just want to squeeze this little guy!

Gordon goes to school

Lynn with Gordon

Last week Gordon visited daddy at work and today Gordon visited mommy’s work. It was so wonderful to be back and see my darling class and wonderful coworkers. Gordon was a little doll as usual and was happy to be cuddled and held by so many loving friends.

Father Son Work Day

Gordon joined Eric at work for a short visit today. Eric was getting him use to using the keyboard and the mouse at his desk. We are thinking Gordon will be a great CPA someday.

Gordon's First Walk

Gordon went for his first beach walk yesterday. It was a crisp evening and felt great to be outside. Unfortunately, Gordon wasn’t able to take in much of the sights since he was fast asleep the whole time. He was sure darling though.

Random Acts of Kindness

About three years ago one of my cute classes gave me this flower pot with a beautiful plant inside. As much as I love plants and flowers I can never manage to keep them alive. So for the last year or so we have had this pot on our front porch with a dead Geranium in it. I’ve wanted to plant something new in it but have never gotten around to it. Well, last week when we got back from the hospital someone planted these beautiful flowers in our pot. It was so sweet and they make me smile on a daily basis.

Aunt & Uncle to the Rescue

Uncle Justin and Aunt Crystal paid Gordon a little visit today. Gordon loved being cuddled and cared for by them. We can’t wait for our next play date with them!

Newborns sleep, really?

We just love this little guy! It’s amazing how “bright eyed and bushy tailed” he manages to be all day and all night long. We had heard that newborns typically sleep about 20 hours a day. However, we have yet to experience this. In fact, we think it is just the opposite where he is up for 20 hours and sleeps for four. Mom and dad are trying to get a few hours of shut eye here and there but are just thoroughly enjoying being with Gordon.

These pictures are funny though because he has his eyes shut in almost all of them yet the second we move he wakes up! What a cutie!
Mom is SOO tired!

Off to his first appointment to the pediatrician

Father/Son Outings

This parenting thing is pretty AMAZING. We feel SO blessed to be Gordon’s parents. One of my favorite things to do now is watch Eric and Gordon have father/son time. They are absolutely ADORABLE to watch together. Eric is such an INCREDIABLE little dad (he has patiently waited for a long time) and has been a TERRIFIC diaper changer, support to me, and wonderful helper caring for Gordon.

1st Bath at Home

Yesterday, June 1st we came home from the hospital. It felt amazing to be back “sleeping” in our own bed and in the comfort of our own home. We gave Gordon his first bath yesterday and believe it or not he was not a happy camper. He was a sad boy during the bath but after we wrapped him up he quickly quieted down and was then his cute delightful self.
