Matt-isms

Some people post funny things their kids say, so on my mission to get Matt to post on our blog here are some Matt-isms.

After our Ensign came in the mail:
Matt: This Ensign has an article for me in it. (He then shows me the cover of the Ensign.)
Erin: (skimming through the intro kickers) Learning by the Spirit, p. 24... Be a Missionary All Your Life, p.44 ....Staying Active When Your Spouse Is Not, p. 58...

Guess which article he meant. Thanks, Matt.

Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
(This might only be funny to me; maybe you had to be there to get the full effect. But you can imagine, right?)

Matt was about to leave to go do some Church stuff and he'd only had two hours of down time all day. I was feeling sympathetic for him because he works so hard all week, and on his one day off he only has a couple hours that he's not busy. So I was going to totally let him pour out all his worries and concerns to me. (Right, like guys do that.)

Erin (totally serious and ready to give Matt moral support): Matt, do you ever get tired...with school...and Church stuff...and everything else you have to do?
Matt: (in his serious voice) Yes.
Erin: (expecting Matt to pour out his soul to me) Really?
Matt (pretend-serious voice): Yes, Sometimes--I don't know why--but when it gets late every night I just get so tired and want to go to sleep.

I don't know why but I couldn't stop laughing about that.

Later that night:
Matt (pretend-serious voice): Erin, remember when I was talking about how sometimes I get tired?
Erin: Yes.
Matt (very distressed voice): Well this is one of those times; I'm tired.

That sent me into a giggle-fit that lasted way too long. On Monday I'd think about it and start hyaena-laughing at my desk.

Iowa's Golden Girl

Shawn Johnson + West Des Moines, Iowa = BFF

Last night a few friends and I attended the welcome home event for Shawn Johnson. (It was pretty embarrassing how teary I was getting over everything…but I should have expected as much. Every time an award was given during the olympics, I'd tear up like no other. Matt thinks I'm crazy. But I'm not.)

It's over!

Last night I did a Turbo Kick demo class at DMU's Wellness Center. I'm so glad it's over! I was losing sleep over it. It was far from perfect, but it wasn't as bad as my nightmares of forgetting all the choreography and not remembering any cues. It was actually kind of fun. So, starting September 3rd I'll be teaching Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. and one other time that hasn't been decided yet.

A big thank you is due to:
Megan and Nikki for all the great advice and for letting me practice with them;
Natali for coming to the class and always having an encouraging smile;
and Matt for figuring out how to burn another CD of the music after the original CD got scratched on Wednesday.

You know you've been reading too much Twilight when...

The other night Matt and I were watching some of the races in the Olympics:

Erin: Wow. That they are amazing; they look like vampires.
Matt: What???
Erin: They're just so fast and graceful.
Matt: (Laughed uncontrollably for seriously two minutes.)

About Matt and Me

Because I have nothing better to blog about... This picture is of Matt and our niece, Maddie at Glacier National Park this summer.

  • How long have you been together? We've been married for almost two years and nine months. Before that we dated for a little over a year.
  • How long did you date? We dated for 11 months and were engaged for two months.
  • Who said "I love you" first? Matt, on Valentine's Day 2005
  • Who eats more? If it's chocolate, me. If it's anything else, Matt.
  • Who is taller? Matt. He's about 5'8" and I'm 5'4"
  • Who sings better? Matt, by far
  • Who is smarter? Matt
  • Who does the laundry? Both of us
  • Who does the dishes? Both of us
  • Who mows the lawn? Ah, the joy of renting. But when we lived at Matt's parents' home Matt mowed their lawn.
  • Who cooks dinner? Both of us
  • Who drives when you are together? Usually Matt
  • Who is more stubborn? I don't think either of us are too stubborn.
  • Who kissed who first? Matt kissed me, but only after I gave him a lot of non-verbal encouragement.
  • Who asked who out first? Matt finally asked me out after I'd been hoping for months! We went to eat at Texas Roadhouse in Idaho Falls and then Matt took me to see the movie, The Incredibles.
  • Who proposed? Matt proposed at the Idaho Falls Temple.
  • Who is more sensitive? I think we're both sensitive in different ways.
  • Who has more friends? We have the same friends.
  • Who has more siblings? Me, I have four siblings and Matt has three
  • Who wears the pants in the family? We both wear one leg. It makes walking around kind of interesting. :)

Puke Days

A few weeks ago Matt substituted in Primary. The lesson was on gratitude, so during their class each of the five year old kids said something they were grateful for. One little girl said this, "I'm thankful for puke days because the day after I throw up I feel so much better." We got a big kick out of that one.

Engagement Pictures

Here are a few pictures to keep you entertained. (No, Matt and I aren't getting engaged again. I wouldn't want to go back to that time—having to say goodnight at the doorstep, going on a 40 day kiss-fast, etc., etc.) I don't have many pictures saved on this computer that I'm blogging on, so these pictures (taken almost three years ago) are what you get. Have we aged?

Breaking Dawn, Etc.

My Breaking Dawn book finally arrive last Thursday and I finished it last night. I loved it, but it was different than any of the other Twilight books.

I wasn't so captivated that I couldn't put it down, but I loved discovering the new twists and turns the story took. Stephenie Meyer blew me away. I'd never imagined the story line would go in the direction it did.

Now I'm counting down the days until December 12 when I can take Matt to see the movie.

Last Saturday I attended an all-day certification to teach Turbo Kick. After the ten hour day which included four or five hours of working out, my body ached! I don't think I've ever felt so sore in my back and core as I did on Sunday. Maybe I should have taken it a little easier. Thankfully Matt massaged me for hours and helped me with day-to-day activities that I could barely do, ya know like changing clothes or leaning down to pick up something.

Still waiting (but lucky me)

for my Breaking Dawn book to arrive. It's no fair. My friend's book arrived yesterday.

But it's okay, because Matt and I just got a free camcorder! How exciting is that!?! In May we got an offer letter stating that if we signed up for one free month of Wells Fargo's Traveler's Advantage Program, we'd get a free camcorder. We've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting--and had almost totally given up hope. But it's here!

AND, I also won this from Announcements Galore:

It's a collage (mine'll be cuter though). Thank you http://ilovegiveaways.blogspot.com/!

Yesterday I passed out again after giving blood, so they told me I shouldn't donate anymore. My pleasure. I won't feel guilty now for not doing my civic duty. Besides, I have a huge bruise on my arm where my blood was drawn. (I don't think the lady knew what she was doing because that's never happened before and it hurt the entire time the needle was in me.) I'm a wimp, I know. I even used that as my excuse to get out of helping clean up dinner last night and to get Matt to stop tickling me! (Matt is so gullible. He falls for that stuff all the time...or maybe he's just really nice.) :)

Blessed

I've been thinking lately about how glad I am that Matt and I ended up in Des Moines for medical school. I don't think there could be a more perfect situation for us than what we have right here. Matt and I talked the other night about how blessed we feel to have such great friends and a great ward to help us through these couple of years. Even though we miss being close to family, it's awesome to know that there are people around who care about us and who we can turn to for anything.

Another thing I was thinking about is how fortunate I am to have such a great husband. I don't want to get too sappy, but can I brag about him for a minute? Last week he helped moved four or five different families (in the scorching heat). He single-handedly planned an awesome Dutch oven campfire get together with over 30 friends (I was seriously shocked at how well he took care of everything). And every Sunday he goes to the church around 7:00 a.m. and most of the time he doesn't get home until 4:00 p.m., but he never, ever complains. Matt'll be embarrassed by this and probably take it off, but he knows I'm just going to keep putting embarrassing things about him on our blog until he posts an entry. :)

Not much new is going on in our lives. Classes started up for Matt a couple of weeks ago. He hasn't been too busy, but things'll pick up a lot this week. I'm just working and waiting for my Breaking Dawn book to arrive. :) And then I have big plans to lounge by the pool all day, reading my book.
