Having a brilliant camera or a DSLR does not make you a bona fide photographer neither it makes you seems superior.I think this isn’t the first time this issue had been brought up. Photography has grown increasingly popular for the past couple of years. And so is the increasing number of young punks who think they’re professional photographers just because they own a DSLR. It is becoming such a problem, it's becoming too irritating....
These young punks basically had their daddys or mummys buying them cameras and they suddenly think they're good with photography. They are everywhere carrying their camera bags with pride but some basically don’t know a shit about basic photography or know about basic photo taking etiquette. They are everywhere... I've seen them in here or even overseas.... They take photos everywhere, standing in front of you for way to damn long blocking your way creating a nuisance and are totally unaware of their surroundings. Basic conduct, basic manners, mind you.
Personal experience:
I usually do not care about my surroundings and happily living in my own world. But today it one of those days when I decided to take five from my own world I guess.... Hahaha..... Ok.... Here's goes....
I was taking a shot of my food with my iphone and this statment from a guy sitting at the next table with his friends pissed me off. He said loudly, 'I do not understand why some people do not understand that iphone is just a phone and not for taking photos. If want to take photos, use DSLR lar, idiot. The photos sure turn out awesome.'
That guy went on to boast loudly to his friends about his photography skills and how good and expensive his DSLR was. Showing off his expensive and brilliant DSLR and his professional shots.......... I almost wanted to LOL when this guy was 'showing-off' his shots to his friends and one of them said that it's kinda of blur and too bright for some of his shots. His friend was trying to give him some tips and made some comments on the lens that he should use and that guy simply brush it off by saying 'what do you know? Do you own one of this?' Oh gosh, I wish I can give him a wake-up slap then.
I'm seriously pissed. Hello! What's wrong with taking pictures with iphone? It's not the best choice for a camera but there's nothing wrong with taking photos with handphones. You punks do not have to use that look with me who's using a iphone to take photos and have absolute no rights to make that statement.
One might say that I'm taking that statement too personal. Yes, maybe I do, but photography is in a way is special to me. I cant really say that I have a passion for it though. But I'll always remember how happy I was during my first excusion with my first cheap camera (disposable) in primary school excusion. It's a great way to keep memories fresh in the form of photos. Taking photos and looking through them helps me to remember the feelings, that particular view at that point of time while I was taking that shot... Might even helps others to see the different views that I viewed differently from others..... I'm no bona fide photographer either. I'm just a casual, happy snapshot person who loves to take photos as and when I feel like it. But at least I have my basic manners and have pride in my own photos. I dont own a DSLR or even a camera for that matters, but I'm happy with some of my photoshots.
So what I’m really trying to say is, if you don’t know the basics and you don’t know how to use light and you don’t know the proper etiquette then don’t bother to waste money. Go learn the basics and improve before you show off with your DSLR. Just because you're holding onto a world-class camera does not really mean that you are a world-class photographer and neither that means that your photos will turn out to be world-class.
With passion, some talents, some skills (or even basic skills) and sometimes, luck, your photos can turn out to be awesome even you are just using the world most basic camera.
