Here's something totally fun! Three years ago a young YouTuber called Constantine uploaded two videos in which she presented her Top 5 of favourite Japanese zombie movies. Now, I know what you're thinking; "Meh. Another lame YouTube film review!" And I fully understand you; YouTube is floating over with lame film "reviewers" whose every review (and I use the term loosely) is made up of lines like, "Man, this is an awesome movie, you should check it out, totally awesome, and it's a bargain from Target at 1 dollar, and the director Looschio Foolschee is, like, really awesome". No need to worry, this chick knows a thing or two about Japanese films. She speaks the language, has always read up on the subject matter, and basically knows her shit.
PART 1
PART 2
Apart from these two fun zombie videos Constantine also has a pile of "ordinary" reviews of Japanese films. Unfortunately, she hasn't made any new ones for a long time but do check out the old ones here.

Oi, gov'! Zombies!!
There's a new zombie flick on its decaying way, COCKNEYS VS ZOMBIES!! The CGI is annoying but I guess the days of proper fake spurting blood are gone. It looks like a fun movie. Not up there with the masterpieces, ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS, NIGHT/DAWN/DAY, etc. but still. Funnily enough, despite its title I didn't actually hear anybody with a Cockney accent in that trailer. o_O

Juan de los Muertos (Spain/Cuba, 2011) - trailer
Check out this trailer for JUAN DE LOS MUERTOS [Juan of the dead] that I discovered via a Uruguayan blog, El Bizarro Mundo Nihilista (whose contents is mainly reviews of spanking sex videos, LOL). I don't know if there's a DVD release but it certainly looks cool enough to get if there is one!

Survival of the Dead: talk 'bout barebone!
I've just bought George A. Romero's latest entry to his never-ending zombie tale; SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD. It's the UK DVD and you can get it cheap from Play.com (retailing at 7 Euros) and I must say I'm slightly disappointed. Usually I like to watch a film's trailer and some of the interviews. And it's cool to have the subtitle option. Well, you can forget any of that with this release; It has got NOTHING! O_O!! Nothing other than the film itself (obviously)!! No trailers, no interviews, no crappy advertising "documentaries", no alternative footage, or even English subs for the deaf (which I'd call hearing impaired if I were PC, so I don't). What a crappy release! And in addition to that some people even say the film sucks, haha (but obviously I'm gonna make up my own mind about that).
Gee, there's more extras in this post than on the DVD!!:/

Opstandelsen - new Danish zombie movie
I posted a teaser for the Danish zombie flick OPSTANDELSEN a little while back and now there's a full trailer and an interview with the director of the movie, Casper Haugegaard. Check it out. It's all got English subs (which interestingly enough are pretty good, not something we're used to from professional Danish labels who release DVDs that carry English subs. They usually suck major ass).

Emergency! Living Dead in Tokyo Bay... finally... coming to non-VSoM DVD!!!
You: How... but... huh... wha'??? Say again?!?!?!
Me: Relax baby, cool it, all is good. Hahaha.
I know, I know, you don't capisce this, do you. Nah, you don't. It's not capisce'able for you ordinary folk out there to comprehend the greatness of this so lemme try and explain, slowly.
Yes, it is true; Kazuo "Gaira" Komizu's EMERGENCY! LIVING DEAD IN TOKYO BAY (original title: Batoru gâru: Tokyo crisis wars) is finally going to be released by a legit video company!!! (I'm sure it's redundant that I mention Gaira is also behind such classics as ENTRAILS OF A VIRGIN and ENTRAILS OF A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN). No longer will fans of exotic zombie flicks have to pull out the ol'e DVD-R from Video Search of Miami (or 3rd generation dupes off the VSoM boot, haha). Sounds amazing, aye!
It's the good people (well, Don May jr.) over at Synapse who are putting LIVING DEAD out on DVD. Street date: February 23, 2010. It's already listed on Amazon. It must be something like 15 years ago since I got hold of this film the first time; on that aforementioned bootleg VHS from VSoM. Or rather on a video tape from a tapetrader in Finland copied off a boot from VSoM, haha. Then much later, very recently like one or two yrs ago, I re-bought the film on DVD-R from that thar boot company in order to get a slightly better picture quality. Their version is pretty decent enough, good picture and comes with English subtitles provided by Thomas Weisser & Co. but needless to say getting a proper DVD is gonna be so much better, not least cos for the first time it'll be presented its original letterboxed format. [EDIT: actually it's in fullscreen. Thanks Jayson]
So what's EMERGENCY! LIVING DEAD IN TOKYO BAY all about I hear you ask. Well, a deadly green meteor crashes in the middle of Tokyo harbour and panic ensues partly because the rays from the green meteor turn dead people into... zombies! (you didn't see that one coming, eh). And our heroine battle chick has to... ehh... I forget... do some stuff I guess. But very entertaining. hmm, maybe I should go and watch my boot again. :/
Anyhoo, this new spiffy DVD will contain:
SPECIAL FEATURES
- New Digital Transfer from Original Vault Materials
- Presented in the Original Filmed Aspect Ratio of 1.33:1
- Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Sound
- Newly Translated Removable English Subtitles
- All-New Video Interview with Director Kazuo “Gaira” Komizu (53 mins.)
Oh, and as you can see on the cover there's also a slight re-titling as Synapse have added the "Battle Girl" moniker from the Japanese video. Personally I think they should've left the old VSoM title as it were but, hey, that's a minor gripe.
Over on DVDManiacs Don May jr. said this about the interview:
PS: Synapse are (most likely) also going to release a VIOLENT SHIT box set!!! More on that later.
Me: Relax baby, cool it, all is good. Hahaha.

At 53 minutes this interview on BATTLE GIRL is also quite brain melting. I think the guy must've smoked about 9 packs of cigarettes in that hour. It's so odd and crazy, we decided to just not edit it at all and have the entire thing on the disc! LOL!
PS: Synapse are (most likely) also going to release a VIOLENT SHIT box set!!! More on that later.

Last of the zombies...
...well, Mattei's zombies that is. It's not like we've seen the last zombie movie ever, eh. Anyway, Per Svensson, a member over at Dvdmaniacs, uploaded some screen grabs from Mattei's last two zombie movies; ZOMBIES: THE BEGINNING and ISLAND OF THE LIVING DEAD which so far only have been released on DVD in The Czech Republic. According to mr. Svensson BEGINNING is actually... the sequel! Yep, sounds like true Mattei logic, LOL. Here are some of the scans.
[Click the scans for twice the size]
Anyway, until we (or at least I) get hold of these babies here's a cool trailer from Mattei's totally entertaining PREDATOR ripoff ROBOWAR:
