The Good Shepherd

Jacob fled to the country of Syria;
Israel served for a spouse,
And for a wife he tended sheep.
(Hosea 12:12)

Jacob toiled for his wife.

Even more toilsome was the Lord Jesus Christ while on earth to save His people.

The Lord Jesus Christ watched over all His sheep.

He had lost none of them.

And he was always found in prayer wrestling for them.

Laban was harsh and hostile to Jacob.

If the sheep were lost or died, Jacob was to bear the loss.

The Lord Jesus Christ was sent by His Father to take care of His sheep.

The Lord Jesus Christ willingly toils for His Church.

He makes sure that His people were safe.

The Lord Jesus Christ tends His sheep like a good shepherd.

Man's Greatest Need

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)

Man's greatest need is religion.

Science, education, material possessions or physical pleasure can never bring ultimate satisfaction to any man.

Man's greatest need is to be brought into touch with God.

Man greatest's need is to get right with God.

But there is a problem.

God is the Creator and Sovereign of the universe.

God is holy and righteous.

God cannot even look upon sin.

But men are born away from God.

Men inherit a corrupt, fallen nature, affecting every part of their being.

Men are dead spiritually and dying physically.

Before a holy and righteous God, men are responsible for every sin that they have ever committed, guilty of deliberate disobedience.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

But there is one solution.

There is the one Savior, the man Christ Jesus.

Jesus came to save us from our sins.

To Whom Be Glory Forever

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. (Romans 11:36)

"To whom be glory forever. Amen." This should be the single desire of all Christians.

We are not acting as we ought to do if we are moved by any other motive.

We may desire to attain more gifts and more graces, but it must only be for the glory of God.

As Christians, we are of God and through God and live to God.

Let us make God our only object.

And let our desire for God's glory be a growing desire. Let us give him more as He has given us more.

Let us praise him by stronger faith.

Let us sing more sweetly.

Let us give Him more  honor.

Let us serve Him more and increase in holiness...

God's People

For the LORD's portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance.  (Deuteronomy 32:9)

How are they His?

(1) By His own sovereign choice

He chose them, and set His love upon them. This He did apart from any goodness in them, or any goodness which He foresaw in them. He had mercy on whom He would have mercy.

(2) By purchase

He bought and paid for them with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

(3) By conquest.

He conquered them by His omnipotent love.

Christians are special people.

They are God's people.

They are chosen, purchased, and subdued by God's love through His Son.

How Were You Healed?

One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see
- John 9:25 –

The Bible is filled with accounts of people telling what God has done for them.

Here in the Gospel of John in chapter 9, we have the account of the Lord Jesus Christ encountered a man blind from birth.

The Lord Jesus Christ miraculously healed him, enabled him to see (John 9:1-7).

The skeptical local religious leaders were not happy.

They repeatedly questioned him as to how he was healed.

The man told them the Lord Jesus Christ had healed him.

But they were not satisfied with his answer.

Finally the man told them, “One thing I know: that I was blind, now I see.”

*******

Sometimes it is difficult to convince others of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

It may take time and effort.

But it is no secret what God can do.

Let us rest in Him and speak truthfully.

And let Him do the rest.
