5K run in Houston event

While in Houston for meeting recently, I took part in the 5km segment of the USA fit Marathon held in Sugar Land, Texas during the weekend. 3 of my colleagues also took part; 2 Singapore office colleagues who ran the same 5km as me while the other colleague from Holland took part in the half marathon.

Several days prior to the event, the temperature in Houston was as low as -3 deg C. I was contemplating not to run the event since I have never ran in such cold weather before. Thankfully, the weather turned warmer over the next few days and it was about 12-14 Deg C on the day of the run but it was raining lightly. Running in the usual singlet and shorts was not an option, I had to run with track pants and sweater with hood for the first time in my life.

Interestingly, the organizers said a short prayer before flagging off the event. The route is actually within the University of Houston Sugar Land campus. It was a rather flat and dull route with no notable scenery but the run was rather pleasant due to the cold weather. I finished the race about 29 mins. I was happy to have experienced running in an overseas event under a different weather climate.

"Fruitful Trip"

ES was away for about 2 weeks at USA for a meeting.
I was excited as he could help me to get some items there which will be cheaper than if i buy locally. Hee.

 Coach & Kate spade items

Bought from Amazon.com in USA and delivered to ES's hotel.
This recommended pump is so much cheaper to get from USA.
(like almost half of the price if buy locally)

Didn't know that ES can shop! He bought more than
20pcs of clothings for our baby!

He bought this because he know i will like it! Ha

ES new toy : Ipad

Updates

Halo, im back again to update our blog.  Yup, have been missing in action since August! (till someone requested me to "revive" our blog haha)

What have I been busy with?  Well, probably pregnancy has made me too tired to do a lot of things, especially in the first trimester.  Then 2nd trimester i was busy with doing research on baby products (via motherhood forum) and price comparison, hoping to make wise purchase for my shopping hee.

Just would like to share a bit on my pregnancy journey so far :

a) The blessing was discovered on 24th July 2010 !!! - We were overjoyed!

b) First Trimester - quite smooth but tough due to lost of appetite and nausea
I lost my appetite and had nausea thought vomiting was not too serious as compared to others.  I ate very little. (like half portion of my usual quantity)  I find eating is really a "chore" to me during this period of time.  I know i just have to eat something even though i dont feel like eating at all.  And i sometimes vomited during or after my dinner (never in the morning or afternoon).  Jokingly i said, mine should be called "evening sickness".

I also realised that there are some changes in my appetite.  Example :  I begin to dislike wan tan noodle, fish cake and plain water!  I can avoid wan tan noodle and fish cake but not water lor.  So what  i did was to add bit of Ribena into my water so that there is a sour taste.   This is the only way to make me drink more water haha.

In addition to the above, i was also feeling fatigue throughout the day.  Going to work was really a struggle.  I dragged myself to work and hoping the day of work would end soon.  I even have to take an hour of rest/sleep when i returned home from work.  For this reason, i took about 2 days of leave every week during this period in order to rest more.  (my leave was almost depleted because of this!)

I was hoping the 1st trimester to be over quickly.  I told friends that i dont enjoy my pregnancy with this nausea thing plus fatigue.

c) 2nd Trimester - Appetite was improved but there was a scare
I was excited to have entered into my 2nd trimester as this period is called "honeymoon" period of pregnancy.  Indeed, those pregnancy symptoms were gone (on around week 16th) and my body strength was restored!

So I started my shopping plan. First, we met Jocelyn and Joshua to a baby fair at the Expo. Shopping for baby items was so fun! (even tough we din buy a lot, anyway this was just the start hee...)

On week 19th, when we thought everything was smooth and stable, here came the scare!  One evening, I saw bright red stain!  And it was getting heavy that i can even feel it flowing slowing when i stand! I quickly lie on bed while ES called the gynae assistant.  We were advised to go to A&E immediately while she contacted our gynae.  Our feelings at that moment?  Very very scared, worried, mind went blank.... We cried and prayed that..... not again Lord ........

We thank God for His protection that our baby is fine. What a relief! The cause of the bleeding was unknown as everything seemed fine from the scan.  I was given 2 weeks MC to rest.

There were 2 exciting moments during this trimester : To know the baby gender (on week 16th) and to feel her movement (on around week 18th)

d) 3rd Trimester  - so far so good!
I just passed the first 4 weeks of 3rd trimester. I heard about friends having leg cramps, backache, swollen feet etc during this period.  I thank God that im only experiencing leg cramps in the night sometimes, painful but short duration, still bearable lah.

Now, as we are approaching the due date, we are very excited and look forward to meeting our lovely girl!  (hmm ... still thinking for a name for her)

Can you see her face from below 3D scan? Think she has our thick lips haha  :)
