A Million Dollar Lesson

A cab driver taught me a million dollar lesson in customer satisfaction and expectation. Motivational speakers charge thousands of dollars to impart his kind of training to corporate executives and staff. It cost me a $12 taxi ride. I had flown into Dallas for the sole purpose of calling on a client. Time was of the essence and my plan included a quick turnaround trip from and back to the airport. A spotless cab pulled up.

The driver rushed to open the passenger door for me and made sure I was comfortably seated before he closed the door. As he got in the driver's seat, he mentioned that the neatly folded Wall Street Journal next to me for my use. He then showed me several tapes and asked me what type of music I would enjoy.

Well! I looked around for a "Candid Camera!" Wouldn't you? I could not believe the service I was receiving! I took the opportunity to say, "Obviously you take great pride in your work. You must have a story to tell." "You bet," he replied, "I used to be in Corporate America. But I got tired of thinking my best would never be good enough. I decided to find my niche in life where I could feel proud of being the best I could be.

I knew I would never be a rocket scientist, but I love driving cars, being of service and feeling like I have done a full day's work and done it well. I evaluate my personal assets and... wham! I became a cab driver.

One thing I know for sure, to be good in my business I could simply just meet the expectations of my passengers. But, to be GREAT in my business, I have to EXCEED the customer's expectations! I like both the sound and the return of being 'great' better than just getting by on 'average'" Did I tip him big time? You bet! Corporate America's loss is the traveling folk's friend!

Lessons:
· Go an Extra Mile when providing any Service to others.
· The is no good or bad job. You can make any job good.
· Good service always brings good return.

The Olympic is just over, but there's something we all can learn from it. Here is what I found on the internet.

An Olympic Lesson in Motivation:

The saying goes: The expert in anything was once a beginnerin everything. Truer words were never spoken. But this isn't what we see. This isn't what we feel when we watch these Olympians. It isn't what we think when we watch any expert or great success. We see the finished product, shining brightly in designer packaging. We see triumph and achievement, not training. We see the riches, not the rags. And this, as much as anything else, is why motivation - that inner drive that carries us toward all we desire - continuesto escape us. Today that comes to an end. Today I will open your eyes to a new way of viewing the changes you wish to carry out and the challenges that are attempting to stop you. The Olympians we admire might possess unique physical talentand natural gifts, but that inner fire that compels them forward is within us all. It's time to set it free.

PMR Writing Workshop

As preparation for Malacca Trial & PMR, the form three students were given a writing workshop by Pn Norasyikin Hg on 18 August 2008. The students were exposed to various ways of writing techniques to further streghthen their writing skills. The students worked in groups to complete the tasks and did peer evaluation. They were assisted by all the form 3 teachers - En. Ahmad Rizal, Pn. Sinarsuria, Pn. Norizah & Pn. Faizahanim. The four - hour workshop ended at 12.30. Hopefully, the students will do their best in the trial and PMR

Story of a Prince was the title of the drama staged by MOZAC at the State level Drama Competition 2008. The all boys team of MOZAC won the third place in that competition. The drama crew were :

Merdeka Day Message Writing Competition 2008

Malaysia is going to celebrate her 51 years of independence.
Write a message to express your wish/wishes for your country.

Rules and Regulations:-
1. The message can be in any written form – poem, prose, acrostics etc.
2. The message must not exceed 30 words.
3. The message is to be written on a post-card with a Malaysian
scene/background.
Example: - Post-cards showing Petronas Twin Towers, A Famosa,
Orang Utan, Msian Fruits, Malaysian beaches, Cultural dances, etc.

4. Each student is allowed to submit ONE entry only.
5. Write your name and form clearly on the right- hand side of the post-card.
6. Prizes will be given to the best TEN messages.
7. Closing date for submission – 25 AUGUST 2008 ( Monday )
8. Submit your entries to Puan Ivy Ng.

A Visit To The Happiness Centre

On 8th July 2008,48 members of the English Language Society with our teacher advisor, Mrs. Ivy visited the Happiness Centre For The Mentally Disabled Children in Klebang. As soon as we arrived, we were given a short briefing by Mr. Roy the founder of the centre. He was very thankful for the 16 packets of diapers which we donated. For your information, the ELS members have been collecting old newspapers from the classes since April. The money to buy the diapers came from the sale of the newspapers.

What we learnt from our visit?

There are 32 children at the centre. The oldest is a 33 year old boy and the youngest is a 5 year old boy. Only 4 of them are able to walk while the rests are bed- ridden. 9 children are regarded critical cases. They cannot walk and are 100% dependent on people to feed and bath them. Most of these children have multiple disabilities meaning that they have more than one disability ranging from blindness, deaf, dumb, epilepsy, down syndrome, mentally retarded and cerebral palsy. There are 6 parents who visit their children once a month while the rests of the parents only come once a year during festive celebration such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas.

We now, would like to share with you some of the reasons why these children are mentally disabled.

According to Mr. Roy,
Firstly, young unmarried girls, when they discovered they were pregnant, they tried to abort the foetus by taking all kinds of drugs and traditional herbs and in so doing has caused birth deformities.
Secondly, young mothers who in their quest to be slim and attractive tried all kinds of so called miracle products which unintentionally affected the foetus.
Thirdly, during child birth complication occured.

What we did there?

We played, talked and even sang with the children. Even though they are disabled children, they love visitors so much and were happy to take photographs with us.

Our feelings when we left.

We realized how lucky and thankful we are to be able to see, speak, hear, walk and run. In addition, community awareness is still lacking. Lastly, there is so much more we can do towards community service.

Choral Speaking - State Level

MOZAC choral speaking team competed at the state level which was held in April. The team was made up of F1 - F4 students. The title was The Joy of Reading. The teachers in charge were Pn. Rita Malina Rahmat & En. Ahmad Rizal Aziz. The team also presented it at the weekly assembly a few days before the competition.

Star - NIE Campaign for Rewards

As one of our annual activities, the English Department has encouraged MOZAC students to take part in this annual competiton organised by The Star. The response has been encouraging and every year the number of students taking part in this competition has increased. The highest achievement so far is the Merit Awards given to one of the groups in 2006. Hopefully, we will do better next time.

Public Speaking Competition- Ayer Keroh Zone & State Level

Muhammad Azli Hisyam b. Abdul Aziz represented MOZAC for the Public Speaking Competition both at the Ayer Keroh Zone & State Level. At Ayer Keroh Zone he emerged the 1 st runner up. He later represented Ayer Keroh Zone and won the 3rd place at State level. Puan Ivy Ng was the teacher in charge.

English Parliamentary Debate -UIAM /HKSBP

The UIAM Debate was held in April and this year MOZAC sent 2 teams - Bahasa Melayu & English teams. The English Debators for UIA debate were Muhammad Asyraf Arif Abdullah, Muhammad Azri, Thulaja Thesa and Fatin Nasyra.The debators did fairly well and all of them managed to get 'The Best Speaker' title.

This year's HKSBP was held at Sek. Men. Sains Sultan Abdul Halim, Kedah. Like the previous years MOZAC sent a team. This year's debators are Ashvin Avalani, Muhammad Asyraf Arif Abdullah, Muhammad Azri & Thulaja Thesa. This year MOZAC managed to reach the quarter final. The team was coached by Pn. Nursinar Suria.

English Parliamentary Debate - Melaka

MOZAC took part in the English Parliamentary Debate for the Ayer Keroh Zone in Mac/April 2008. It was held at SMK Yok Bin. MOZAC was represented by Muhammad Asyraf Arif Abdullah, Ashvin Avalani, Ghobirajah Selvarajah, Sheikh Muhammad Faisal and Thulaja Thesa. MOZAC won all the debates except for the final when we lost to SMK Tinggi St David. The team was coached by Pn. Norizah Baba & Pn. Faizahanim Yaamah.

Inter - society English Language Games 2008

On the 15th of July 2008, the English Language Society hosted the Inter-Society English Language Games in conjunction with the school’s Academic Month. The competition was held in the school hall and started at 3.30pm.Twenty-one teams from eleven clubs and societies participated. Each team consisted of three students from both lower and upper forms. The participation fee was RM5 for each team. In return, each participant received a goody bag.

The games consisted of eight rounds, namely make two words, can word, general knowledge, high street, big game hunting, going for gold and capital cities, crosswords and lastly alphabet game. The entire proceeding of the games was carried out by the ELS members. The form one and two members distributed and collected the questions and answers. The form three and four members were the markers. The form five members were the quiz masters and saw to the overall running of the games. The score for every round was recorded.

The games went well. Besides being educational it was also fun. It ended at 6pm with light refreshment prepared by the two teacher advisors Mrs Ivy Ng and Mrs Nor Sinasuria for all the ELS members. Prize giving was held on 29th July 2008 during assembly. The prizes were in the form of books and stationey. We hope to make this activity an annual event for our society.
