Seeing Red

Doran got his hard cast on Wednesday. He had a pretty rough day on Tuesday, but he was feeling quite a bit better on Wednesday. He was so excited all day to get his hard cast. When we got there he didn't even want to look at the colors, he knew what he wanted. RED! He was not happy when they actually started the cast. It hurt him so bad to move his fingers and the nurse was holding them straight up! He was so brave though. The doctor got us pretty worried talking about nerve damage, but we are feeling better about it now. Doran couldn't move his pinkie at all until yesterday and he was saying there was probably temporary nerve damage. He is moving it a little now too, which is a big relief. After the cast he had to go get it x-rayed again. This x-ray did not look as good as it did after it was straightened out in the hospital. The doctor said it just settled a little and if it doesn't settle anymore then everything will be fine. So in two weeks he will go in again for another x-ray and hopefully it looks good!

Brock was asleep. Always nice. :) Aunt Susan came to see Doran and she brought Brock and Doran both blankets. I think the pictures show how much they love them!

Check out that sweet cast!

We consoled Doran while they were holding his fingers straight by telling him we would take him to the cabin after he was done, so that is what we did. It was so nice to go up there! It was suprising how much snow was still on the ground and how cold it still was. That didn't matter to the boys though. Both they and Sharky had the best time outside. They loved the slide that is there and the river. It was still pretty low and slow so we let them stand on the bank and chuck rocks in. We were all standing there and next thing we know Sharky dove in for a swim! I guess we know the lab trait won over on that! It was so cold he got out right away and was shaking because he was so wet. We had a great little get away!

5K

Seth and I ran our first 5K together today. (When I signed us up I thought it would be warm and awesome! Instead there was an inch and a half of snow!) I did awful. I didn't train for it at all and am so out of shape! He stayed with me for the first two miles even though I kept telling him not to. Finally at mile two he started running hard. He did the last 1.1 mile in 8 minutes so his overall time would have been so good! I hope to get in shape and sign up for another one in a couple months!

swollen

Doran's arm and fingers have been really swollen today. We have been elevating it and icing it almost all day, but it doesn't seem to be making a very big difference. He gets really nervous if we touch his arm or fingers because it hurts him so bad. However, at one point today Brock went outside to jump on the trampoline and Doran told us he was going to as well. I told him to think how bad the bouncing would hurt if just bending his fingers hurt. He decided I was right! Brock has been having a bit of an issue with all the attention Doran has been getting today. He has been very whiney and clingy. This evening Susan and Sammi came over to see Doran and give him a get well gift. They thought of Brocky too! They got them both soft little blankets and the boys loved them! They are both blanky lovers. Yesterday at the hospital Doran kept asking the nurse for a blanket and she kept forgetting to bring him one. He has been being a real trooper. Hard cast tomorrow afternoon!

Broken

Today was one of the hardest days I have ever had. It started out great but around 3:30 it took a fast turn in the opposite direction! Seth and Doran were jumping on the tramp while Brock and I were sitting on the deck. I looked over and Seth was climbing out of the trampoline and was holding Doran. He told me to get Brock in the car because Doran just broke his arm. I started freaking out and he told me I needed to stay clam so Doran would. I tried my hardest to stop crying and frantically got Brock in the car. Doran didn't even cry when it happened. However, by the time we got to the hospital the shock had wore off and the pain had settled in. When they put him on the bed and made him move his arm so it could rest on a pillow he started screaming in pain. Then I started crying again.

The nurse said he needed an IV so he could have pain medication. Once that kicked in he was much better. He still hurt if he moved at all, but he could atleast sit and be ok.

After the x-rays he wanted to leave the light off and watch tv on our phones. He watched an episode of beyblade and some dragon ball z. He got a little loopy and chatty after he was done watching. It was kind of cute in a twisted sort of way.

We had to wait a long time after the x-rays for the orthopedic surgeon. He was in Sandy and it took him over an hour and a half to get down. By the time he got there Doran had fallen asleep. He woke up once they stuck the oxygen in his nose and was not happy about it at all. Then they 'sedated' him so they could set his bone and splint it. I say 'sedated' because he was screaming and thrashing while they were setting it and while he was supposedly sedated. It was so awful. When the doctor lifted his arm I could see the bone pressing through on the bottom of his arm. I started crying again.

Once he was in the splint cast they took the sedation off. He was so funny. He kept asking people to give him five. He was and is still in a lot of pain. He is very excited to choose a cast on Wednesday. At first he was adament that he wanted blue like Jayce (who broke her thumb and tore a ligament last week and is in a blue cast), but now he says he wants it to be his favorite color, which is once again red.

He loves th sling. He was even willing to give some fake smiles once he got it.

The hospital gave him a stuffed monkey. He loves it. He decided to name him Sharky 2. How original!

Brock was an angel through all of this! I think it would be really hard to be three and be stuck in a little hospital room for so long. He was so good and Seth and I were so proud of him!

Sleeping on the couch! Doran was excited to be able to have a sleepover!

The after x-ray. You can still see the breaks, but much better!

Easter!

We had such a fun Easter this year. It was the first year I can ever recall not going to an egg hunt at Granny's, which was the onlysad part! The boys had a blast. They did an egg hunt at the Engman party and at the Majors party and they loved them both.

Domi is our awesome little hip-hop dancer. We watched a little of his stuff on the computer and the dude is awesome!!! He challenged Gabe to do the worm or whatever it is called... It was pretty awesome!

Brock decided he would wear his new shades to bed the night before Easter. He looks pretty cool in them!

After the Engman party Saturday evening we set up a present we got the boys. A trampoline! Seth and Jake started it and Seth, Jake, Gabe, Deb, and I finished a few hours later. We kept having to undo things because the instructions were so awful. We were so glad when it was finally done! We were also glad that the boys never looked out the window to spoil the suprise! Seth and I had been planning on hiding the baskets outside on the trampoline and that would be how they discovered it.

So when they woke up Easter morning they had a trail of jelly beans to lead the way out to the baskets and the trampoline!

Doran loves the trampoline, Brock is much more cautious. He doesn't like to jump if anyone else is on it.

What happens when you go to bed late and have to go to church the next day? You leave a big drool spot on Daddy's suit while you nap on him in church!

Doran and I tried to nap on the trampoline after church. It was so nice and then it suddenly got so cold! In the afternoon we went to dinner at my mom and Papa K's house. It was wonderful! They also had a little egg hunt. The eggs were already 'hidden' when we got there. Doran was peaking out the window checking where to find eggs at.

Sharky!

We finally have a yard in! Pictures of that soon to come (when I actually get a camera!). The day the sod got laid the first thing Doran did was look out the window and scream, "We have grass! Let's go get our dog now!!!"

And now all Doran's dreams have finally come true! We have a puppy! On Monday morning Seth looked online for dogs (like he does every day) and there was an ad for a boxador! We both fell in love with the pictures and called for more information. The lady gave us lots of information and we decided that he was the right dog for our family. She was headed up to Salt Lake from Spring City so she said she would meet us at Wendy's in Lehi to see him. When we saw him we knew we were right! He is so stinking cute! He has lab ears, a boxer walk, and uses his front paws like a boxer, but other then that he is a pretty good mix.
He loves the boys! He loves to chase after them and they love him chasing them! He gets tired really fast and is still sleeping a lot. We are in the process of kennel training him and house training him. So far he has been doing awesome! We love him so much and can't wait to see what he grows up to look like!
Seth, Brock, and I all wanted to name him Titan. Doran wanted to name him Sharky. Seth put it to a vote and Brock said Titan and so did Seth and I. Doran said his name IS Sharky. We called him Titan a few of times and Doran would sternly tell us that his name is Sharky. So Sharky Titan Engman it is! He is 6 1/2 weeks, his birthday is 2/26, and he is a little fatty!

Clarky

We have been babysitting our nephew Cark this week! It has been fun and exciting. Doran and him have been playing well, so naturally Brock has been pretty jealous and cranky. He has not liked sharing his attention. He loves Clark though. On Sunday we brought him to church with us and Brock walked into nursery holding Clark's hand. It was precious!
They have been having sleepovers every night! They all have loved that.
We brought Clark to Cafe Rio and while we were walking in he informed me that he likes salsa. Yes sir!
