my country-side
yesterday saw one of the worst reunion dinners that i've ever had.
why? Because i went home to find a good portion of my clothes MISSING.
how? My mother threw it away.
for What? Due to the fact that i have not folded them, YET.
wtf right?
i couldn't help but let the hot tears roll.
yup, i'm inappropriately emotional, but still!
so we headed to grandfather's place for reunion.
It wasn't much of a reunion anyway,
but that's the way my family works.
Everyone starts eating at different times and we all don't sit together at a round table scooping steamboat and stuff like how society says we should.
Instead, we eat in front of the tv, by the window, or wherever; some corner maybe.
Then by the time i'm done eating and waiting for about fortyfive minutes,
only then my cousins start filing in.
see, what reunion dinner right?
it's really just d.i.n.n.e.r itself.
As a result, i was moody most of the night.
didn't talk much, so i decided to help my grandma to clean up and pack the leftovers.
it was therapeutic in some sense.
this way, i didn't have any obligation to make small conversations with irritating aunts who keep comparing which cousin is taller.
(it sucks cos i'm the shortest cousin; even standing at 165cm, i'm made a dwarf)
Makes me want to stuff oranges into all my aunts' mouths.
Alas, the night came to an end and
Thank God my daddy decided that we should all return home early.
So, after such a night, reunion dinner anyone?
`
today.
today was a much more beautiful day (:
woke up early and drove to Mua in Malaysia.
i love the drive.
cos it's just me, my ipod, the scenery and drifting in and out of sleep.
the journey took about 2hrs and then we finally arrived at the little kampong house across the cemetry.
It's a little awkward; seeing all these people that i only see once a year,
finding it hard to converse because they speak mainly chinese and my chinese sucks.
However, they were all really warm and affable (:
For example, the aunts usher us into the dining area to eat like A LOT of good stuff!
Had really good vermicelli, mock fish, huge sweet&sour prawns and yada-yada.
i'm definitely putting on weight this lunar new yr.
so anw, this year was different compared to the previous ones cos this year,
uncle john drove my brother and i to Mua town to see what it was like.
it's really quite cool.
feels like Singapore from a social studies text book which shows 30plus yrs ago!
then, like, the only shopping centre they have is really small!
two or three floors only.
and when you walk along the streets,
you'll see a lot of men in big groups walking arnd like they're in some 80's movie.
you don't see many girls walking around though.
it's amazing.
cos looks like m'sia has a lot of foreign "talent" too.
all the men walking down the street i mentioned are foreign workers.
i predict that they're probably lumberjacks or construction workers of some sort.
anw, we didn't stay in town for long.
but i really enjoyed the short trip down,
plus singing elton john and robbie william's songs in uncle john's car was pretty fun (:
later on, i tried riding a SCOOTER on my own!
haha, damn exciting! but scary too!
seriously heart-racing and adrenaline-pumping!
okay, i think i've had enough for one day.
shall stop here.
but all in all, this new year wasn't too bad ((:
happy lunar new year to all!
p.s. this morning i woke up and found my clothes in a black trash bag.
my mother lied to me ):
what a bad joke.
