Bluebonnets remind me of my Granny Ellis who lived in Bellville, Texas and had lots bluebonnets growing on her property. She also loved to paint bluebonnets. I remember as a child seeing all the beautiful flowers and really wanting to pick some! However, as a child growing up in Texas I knew good and well that if you picked a bluebonnet you go straight to jail, lol! Who knows if this is true, but it scared me enough not to pick them. When Dahlia saw these bluebonnets she picked some, and my other kids gasped and said, "Dahlia, you're going to jail!"
The kids are out for Spring Break this week. On Monday and Tuesday we went to the little town of Brenham to do some sight seeing and see the bluebonnets. This part of Texas is know for beautiful bluebonnets, which pop up everywhere during the Spring. When we visited they were just starting to bloom. I can only imagine how beautiful it is when the flowers are in full bloom! While we in Brenham we also visited a historic cemetery, went to a park where the original Baylor University once stood, walked around the cute downtown, and visited the Blue Bell creamery. At the creamery they sold huge scoops of ice cream for only $1 and they had flavors which aren't carried in stores. I had lemon and it was so good!
