Island Update (Tues 5.1.12)

Since life has somewhat settled down (and i don't mean boring, i mean that i'm adapting to this exciting hawaii lifestyle), I feel less of a need to blog. I am fighting that lazy urge to keep you updated (or if this is boring and nobody reads it) then just to document activities so that I can record life as I know it. The past few days have included runs on the beach and homework (GASP). Today was a "school day". Five hours of class. Thank GOODNESS my classes are quite interesting. I mean, let's be serious, I watched TROY at byuh today. granted it was the "Cleanflicks" version. and personally, I can assure you it was an improved version of the original. I obviously have not seen the rated "R" one but no artistic value was compromised. I didn't roll my eyes at the kissing scenes. That's a HUGE deal for me. I usually roll my eyes during every non-Disney kiss. So many of them are unrealistic and dramatic. These weren't. I was incredibly impressed. I still haven't gotten sunburned AND my tan is sprouting, promise. Oh. I will tell you about Saturday! Saturday morning the girls and I went to Hukilau for breakfast to eat the praised BANANA PANCAKES. The whole breakfast trip was a good experience. and a "GOOD IDEA" (in Sarahy's cheeuhkin impression).
Up close of the pancakes.
Then I drove our rental car (and us) down to the swap meet at the stadium. I got the 7 for $20 t-shirt deal and a uke key chain. They had a bunch of uke tents that made me think of you, Sarahy. :)
Then we went to Pearl Harbor. It was a nice little visit.
Funniest part was this asian group. This one lady had an unopened umbrella and was trying to shield her face for like ten minutes. Too bad umbrellas don't work like that here in America. You actually have to OPEN it for it to be effective. :) I didn't get a picture of that one. This should suffice.
It was shocking that the Arizona is still leaking oil after all of these 70+ years. It's as if the boat is still bleeding.

Hitch hiking and Cheap Ice Cream (Wed 4.25.12)

Today was epic. Cherise and I HITCH HIKED to honolulu. :) what in the WORLD. it was crazy. we rode with a guy on his way to go surf for Hawaii five-0. on the way we went to valley of the temples. then, we jumped in the back of this lady's truck to kaneohe. went to ala moana and waikiki. i got my LONG AWAITED oahu hiking guide. i plan to do every. single. one before I leave. the bus ride back to laie was freezing cold and two hours long, but it was good. we decided to grab a carton of ice cream after TheBus dropped us off. SURPRISE. THE ICE CREAM WAS NOT eight dollars. IT WAS DECEPTIVELY ON SALE. I saved $3.70. RIDICULOUS. now i'm pooped. Cherise is already asleep. my turn. there are pictures of the valley of the temples and waikiki on facebook. i took some awesome videos. those will go up in about 8 or 9 hours after i sleep. :) carry on. preview picture...
go to facebook and check out the "hitchhike-for-the-first-time day" album.

Life and PCC Night Show (Tues 4.24.12)

I lived life to the fullest today. I awoke and ate a locally grown banana. :) I went on a run to Hukilau Beach. I took my shoes off and a few pictures. Then, I couldn't help myself. I ran into the ocean with my clothes on. I took a video which I will post on facebook. I ran home (it was pretty tough to get back to kam hw... those people fence like it's the us/mexico border). I finally got home and made myself some Annie's Mac and Cheese. ARTHUR shapes. :) Then I sped off to my very first day of school in Hawaii. I'm taking 3 classes (ALL of which occur on Tuesday and Thursday): LDS History(which I will refer to Joseph Smith class), Western Culture(yeah, it's about greek, roman, aegean, hellenistic, beowulf, blah blah blah classical stuff), and beginning HULA(yeah, really excited for that one). :) I won't go to hula until next week because we don't have class Thursday and I just added it. I'm taking it with my roommate Jenna (from Weber State in Utah). After school I bought some pineapple (BEST PINEAPPLE IN THE WORLD, succulent, yummy, juicy, sugary). I got home and started microwaving my little frozen cheese raviolis when my roommate Cherise (from BYU) tells me she scored tickets to the Poly Culture Center NIGHT SHOW tonight. BAM! You KNOW we jumped on that :). It was a great show. Pretty funny to see the oodles of tourists. We even indulged in a pineapple delight. Then somebody stopped walking and the rest of that pineapple delight got all over my capris. It was a slimy feeling. Thank goodness it buffed. The evening has consisted of homework and making plans for my day tomorrow. Tomorrow will be pretty sick. I'm planning some things. :) Just put the pictures on facebook. check them out. :)

I Live In Hawaii

:) So today was an adventure. It is only 10:30pm here but my head is still spinning.
Finished off a great section of the year by killing it at work and then with Krista's wedding and a trampoline sleepover at the Hanks!

In between wedding activities, Sarahy, Sophie, and I went to Jamie's and played with the baby ducks.

The reception was so beautiful!

Hailey and Jamie!!!

These are taking wayyyyyy too long. I will put the rest of the pictures on Facebook. Sorry, Sophie. You're going to have to do something about this. Maybe borrow someone's Facebook or something. I'll do one last one.

This is the picture I just took of my room.

I really like my roommates so far. Two of them are going to school in Utah and are just here for a little while. We are ready for adventure and new starts.

We met a Hawaiian family today and they fed us. They were so sweet.
We've been walking everywhere. It was rainy and windy today. I am so nasty and dirty that I don't want to put sheets on my mattress. Tomorrow I will go running/exploring and then to campus to get my dumb little TB shot. Gotta go get some toilet paper and upload pictures. And don't forget the beach. :) It's going down tomorrow.

So pictures will go on facebook coordinating with blog titles or something. Sophie. I can't do it this way. It's KILLING me. Maybe you can just creep on pictures through Cheeuhkin's facebook. girl. we gotta figure something out.

Anyways. I'm dead. Goodnight, mainlanders.

My Mormon.org Profile

Hi, I'm Erin
I'm a college sophomore. I shop at thrift stores. I love to read. I'm a Mormon.

About Me
I love swimming and yoga although I just recently started. I play the piano, ukulele, and sing. I inhale books. I go to college. I'm studying Advertising. I love watching people. I travel a lot. I want to learn how to surf really badly.

Why I am a Mormon
I have been so blessed to be born into a loving family that loves God. I was raised to go to church every Sunday and to follow high standards. However, if you don't believe what you were taught, the way you live your life will eventually change to fit what you believe. I decided, at a young age, to figure out if the Book of Mormon was true. I needed to find out for myself. I knelt down and prayed a simple prayer. I asked God if the people in the stories were real, if these things happened, if Christ really did exist. After I asked sincerely a warm "tingly" feeling spread out from my heart to the rest of my body, almost as if it were being pumped through in my blood. It has been and will always be a foundational part of my testimony. Regardless of what the world throws at me, or the mistakes I make, or the questions I have, I can not deny that the Book of Mormon is one hundred percent true. This book was written for us to study and to learn from. The reason we have it is because we have a loving father in heaven who wants us to succeed and to be happy. This is a tool to do so. I am grateful for this direction and love.

How I live my faith
I love helping out at church. Every person has different abilities and talents. Right now I serve by playing the piano for the children at church. Being around them is so special. Children are innocent but so smart too. They are honest and just want to be loved. Being able to help them learn true principles through music is great! The songs they sing are so sweet and simple. IT is incredible how important music can be in a person's life.

typical

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas season this year. My family is doing a special musical number in church on Sunday. We practiced it today and it sounded beautiful.. at least from where I was sitting. :) Let me know if any of you want to come.
Many things have been happening. This past month has been PACKED. I had to move out and finish work and school for awhile. Then my family went straight to New York for a few days. Mom got sick but we did get to see my dad's sister Betty. She's a hoot.
Anyways, hopefully I'll blog more next year!

Love you all. Merry Christmas!

In the first picture you might be able to pick out a BYU out of newspaper clippings.

So the girls and I will part ways for many months. I’m going to miss them SO much. Finals are coming up. Half of my classes are over. Time to get a job.

Have a great weekend!

Bounce, Step, Now Do That Reject

I have a few shoutouts to give.

Jenny B~Thanks for the wonderful chocolates tonight.
Ben A~ Thanks for sacrificing and coming to listen to me "read" my prophet book to you. You're a great friend.
DJ~ Thanks for adding me on skype. Ha. It's so great to catch up with old friends.
Heather Shannon~ Thank you for all the advertising advice. I love getting to know you over email.
Mom and Dad~ Thanks for everything. the unicycle and juicer especially. can't wait till I can use them.
Celeste~ Thanks for the meds.
Christina~ Thanks for midnight last night. You stretch me to great capacities.
Best friend~ Thanks for knowledge on geridesu. yup. I thought about that very thing today... for one awful reason. :)

To my everyday life... I felt like dying from sickness today. So many things are physically messed up. I almost threw up like 4 times tonight. I doubt I'll even be able to go to sleep because my stomach is churning in a most unpleasant manner. I'm thinking about cleansing my very disturbed system via water fast for a few days. We'll see.

My first week of school has been somewhat of a success. I have my head on straight. Whoopie! The only thing weird is the ice on the ground. I have slipped more often than preferred. But, I am finally wearing hiking/trek boots to school (yup, dad, I've finally whipped em out. love you).

It's far too cold for me here. I will probably avoid every other winter here. I'm not digging it. :)

One thing I am extremely thankful for today is my bed. It's very comfortable. I'm also grateful for the window next to my bed. That makes temperature control simple.

Oh... just in case you were misinformed, I had an AMAZING Christmas break. If I told you otherwise I was being a NINNY. After I really thought about it, I had some super great times. We went to Callaway Gardens and that was a great adventure. Santa brought us a unicycle. I got fresh juice many mornings. And more hugs than I've gotten my entire time in college. I miss hugs. I went on a few mother daughter dates. Those were great. And a few other things like a thrift store date with Abbee. I love my family. :)

I miss you guys. Even if you don't miss me.

Happy New Year everyone. Make this one count. It could be our last. :)

And We Hit The Ground Running Again

Boy did I miss Provo. And my two wonderful roommates.

This Christmas break was a very unique one filled with learning, new adventures, truth, and turbulence.

My favorite new items in my suitcase are the AWESOME books I got for Christmas (CS Lewis and Pres Monson's Biography). Yup life rocks. I'm planning on taking my hobby back up and reading more often. It's completely relaxing for me. Not only that but I learn so much more. My brain has slowed down without some of my leisure reading.

My hip flexors are getting their exercise. Walking on slippery ice to get to school is a new experience. I'm already sore. I've never used these muscles before.

Just in case you weren't aware.....WINTER SEMESTER IS WORKOUT SEMESTER FOR APARTMENT 11. We are rearranging our schedules and diets to assure beautiful results. :) AWW Yeah.

Coming back home to Provo brought a lot of changes....and by changes I mean challenges. I will be focusing on different things that I don't usually focus on. This means great sacrifice.
Shoutout thank you to Ben for picking me up from the airport...and INTRODUCING ME TO THE BEST BELGIUM WAFFLE PLACE EVER. I have now tasted angel tears. :) The place is called Bruges. Check out the website www.brugeswaffles.com.

One of my 2011 goals is to keep up on my blogging. I've quit facebook again. I think this will help. I usually either blog OR facebook. And without the distraction of the latter, I will succeed in this goal.

Oh, in case you haven't heard, I have decided what to major in! I've chosen Mass Communications, Advertising, the management track. WHOOPIE!

I have ice to go skate on. :)
