Ear Infection

Leave it to me to be that Mom that doesn't realize her baby is sick.  Epic fail.  Monday we had Emmy's six month well baby check up.  I expressed my concern almost immediately that Emmy was waking up again every few hours like she was a newborn just plain screaming.  She talked to me for about 10 minutes about how it's time to let her cry it out, etc. but she'd check her ears to see if she's truly sick.

And, yep ear infection.  Sigh.  I cried right there in front of the pediatrician.  I felt so terrible.  I knew something was up, I took her temperature at least 8 times that night and no fever, she sounded horse to me...however I would be too if I was screaming all night.  Fail, fail, fail.  I've never dealt with ear infections with Elly so I truly didn't know the signs.  Doesn't stop me from feeling like the worlds worst mother though.  So a round of antibiotics and I hope she's feeling better...and sleeping through the night.  This hasn't happened yet...and I can't wait!!

3rd Grade

In the blink of an eye summer is over and school has begun.  Both Jon and I went into work late so we could send Elly off to third grade with a full belly and a smile.
She's grown so much over the summer and boy does she have a wicked tan, so jealous.
Watch out third grade, here comes Elly!

6 Months

I feel like I just wrote her 5 months post.  Man time is flying.  A lot has happened this month:

We introduced more food with Emmy, she really loves her veggies.  Peas, carrots, and especially avocado.

Sleep...oh sleep, sleep, sleep.  Some nights Emmy will wake up 3-4 times, other nights it's just 1-2 times.  She keeps me on my toes for sure.  Last week she was up 3-4 times ALL week, I soldier through though and made it to work.  Barely.  We are thinking teeth, but I swear she's been teething for months.  Nothing yet.

She's a roller, not a crawler.  Place her on a blanket and she'll roll to the door way.  What cha doing Momma?

Elly is her favorite person in the world, she squeals with delight the minute she sees her.  When she hears her voice her head turns so fast.  It's adorable!

Next week we have her 6 month appointment, ugh more shots, but I love to see how much she's grown.  She brings so much happiness and love in our home.  We love our Emmy.

World Breastfeeding Week

**Warning, I talk about my boobies in this post.

It's World Breastfeeding Week; did you even know that existed?  I did not, but I tend to fly by the seat of my pants lately with everything anyways.

When I was still pregnant with Emmy, I really wanted to breastfeed her.  I did a lot of research and even took a class.  I dragged Jon with me to the class too because I really wanted his support and also his ears...if I missed something, I could say didn't the instruction say such and such.  I know, I know...but he was awesome.  He was bored with the class but I found it fascinating.

I didn't breastfeed Elly for more then 2 weeks, honestly I found it daunting and I was a new Mom and plain overwhelmed.  I gave up rather quickly and looking back I can see that was a smart choice for me then.  Do I wish I would have stuck it out more, sure, but I don't want to live in the past.  What's done is done and she's still just as perfect to me...bottle fed and all.

I am so proud of myself though now that I did manage to stick it out with Emmy.  Talk about overwhelming!  In the beginning breastfeeding did NOT come easy or natural at all.  Those first several weeks every time I would feed her we would both be sobbing by the end.  She wouldn't latch, she would fuss, she would cough, she would down right scream in the middle of the night and Jon would race into the living room surely to find me torturing our newborn baby but only to see me on the couch crying and holding my breast saying it's not working.  Sob, honey I suck!  Cry!

Thank God for those classes, in no time Emmy and I got to know each other.  Emmy hated to be rocked in the beginning while nursing.  So I sat on the couch and would either use the Boppy or pillows and prop her up.  She was so tiny that I could easily just hold her up.  Eventually I went back to my glider and seriously it's been smooth sailing since.
I was breastfeeding her in the pic.  Ooooo!  The world needs more footy jammies.

I'm very lucky and fortunate that I'm able to provide this.  I know not every woman can breastfeed for different reasons and being on both sides I can tell you that bottle feeding is MUCH easier.  But being able to provide nutrition to your baby is very satisfying.  It also helps with my diet, I do strive to eat as healthfully as possible with the occasional coffee splurge.  I'm sorry but my baby likes to keep me on my toes and I need the java.  The financial part of breastfeeding is amazing, it's free!  I love free.

Products I use and love for breastfeeding:

Lanolin cream, I still use this daily.  Because I'm a working Mom I pump 2 times a day Monday through Friday.  I would be a unhappy Mommy if I didn't have this, I have a great pump therefore by Friday I'm ready to throw it out the window.  HA!

Disposable nursing pads, I like these the best, they are discreet and have a sticky side so they don't move.  Score.

Medela Pump in Style Advanced, this by far is my most expensive purchase with breastfeeding.  I actually bought this from the hospital because it was cheaper.  I can attest that if I didn't have this then I still would not be breastfeeding.  This machine is a miracle.  Go Medela!

Easy expression bustier...looks like a Madonna costume but this is a life saver.

Bravado nursing bras I actually bought a very nice work bra (keeps the girls up) and a nursing tank from Bravado.  But for night time and at home I just used Target brand nursing bras (super stretchy)...but they are also from Bravado.

Breast milk storage bags, these little puppies make storing my pumped milk easy.  My poor freezer is nearly jam packed.

Avent baby bottles, when I'm at work Emmy uses this bottle.  I haven't used any other bottle with her so I can't compare.  She still uses the 4 oz bottles and drinks about 8-10 ounces a day with the sitter.  I work 6 hours and plus my 1 hour commute each way...so about 10 ounces in 8 hours isn't too shabby.  I make sure her belly is full before we head out in the morning and so far it's working out great.  I pump about 10 ounces at work too, give or take.

That's all I can think of right now when it comes to breastfeeding that Em and I are using.  Knock on wood things are going great and I hope to continue to breastfeed her until she is one.  It's not easy but it's worth it.
