The night before the nurse called to give me instruction for Emmy. First they told me her surgery was moved up, okay good. Then they said no milk after midnight and only water before 6am. I hung up but then called back about a hour later. I talked to a different nurse, explained that because of these stupid ear infections this will not work, she told me I could breastfeed her until 6. Whew!
She was grumpy, but really not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was relieved, I was picturing a Emmy ripping at my shirt in hysterics.
In her hospital garb. The socks crack me up. She loved playing with the crinkling paper.
Getting her vitals taken. Lil miss is still just 17lbs. The nurses all loved her hair and couldn't believe she was only 10 months, such a petite thing.
Getting a little bored, playing with the surgical hats. Elly was such a trooper, not the best way to spend Christmas break.
Finally they took her back, I thought I'd lose it but I kept it together. We sat at a table in the waiting room and played with Elly. I only could sit for so long and then had to get up and pace for a bit.
The surgeon came out and spoke to Jon and I after about 20-25 minutes. Emmy had a lot of thick fluid behind her right ear but her left was good. Ear drops for a few days and a follow up in 3-4 weeks. I had to wait some more to go back...about another 20 minutes. But that wait seemed more tolerable then the first.
When I went back Emmy was beside herself, another nurse was rocking her but I knew exactly where she was by her cry without following the nurse. She reached for me and instantly I let her nurse. She calmed down and that's when I let a few tears drop. Her face was all red from the tape (they taped her eyes during the procedure), she was hooked up with an IV in her foot, and heart monitors were on her chest, blood pressure cuff and oh she just looked pitiful.
After she nursed for a good while, we went to recovery two. They allowed Elly and Jon to join us there and Emmy was more alert and ready to go home.
We waited a little longer, they needed to take everything off her. When they took the heart monitor stickies off she cried again. Poor baby.
We put her jammies back on, said peace to the nurses and doctors and high tailed it out of there. She was pretty miserable the rest of the day, took a 2 hour nap and ate everything in sight. She slept okay that night and the next morning was back to her ol self. Thanks for all the prayers, emails and calls that day, much appreciated!
