bullying

Bullying

By Jacob Bushman

Bullying is a type of harassment. According to the Scholastic Dictionary, the word Bully means, "to frighten or pick on people who or weaker than you ,". The word harass is define as ,"To pester or annoy someone,"

Bullying can start from multiple things like bad and or good grades, the way you dress or don't dress, friends and not friends, what sports you play or not play, what your name is and what your name is not,  how you talk or how you do not talk, what color your hair is or not the color of your hair, what you eat for lunch or what you didn't eat for lunch, to the way you walk or not walk, what kind of music you listen to or not listen to, what church or religion you are or you are not, the list can go on and on.

A bully can be anyone!

Bullying can start anywhere at any time!

The best advice my mom gave to me for bullies was to "Smile and wave" just like the penguins on the Madagascar movies. It gets to the bullies. It gets into their heads. They can't stand it! And soon, the bullies will get the hint, and just leave you alone.

I have seen this advice really works. A few years ago, a friend of mine was getting bullied by some kids who were "bigger" than him, not older. My friend had started to walk the long way home from school. He wasn't happy about that, but my friend thought this was the only way to conquer the bullies. My friend's plan worked for awhile, then the bullies found him. Instead of seeing my friend hurting and scared, my brother and I came up with a plan to help my friend. My older brother went to the same school as my friend. The plan was to have my brother walk home with my friend. Armed with the advice from my mom and my "much taller than most kids" brother, my friend was able to get home safe throughout the school year. The bullies actually gave up! And my friend gained his self esteem back and my older brother as a friend.

Here at the school, there are steps or actions that will happen if bullying and harassment happens: the first time bulling and harassment is reported the offense is referred to a school counselor.

If a second offense happens there is a referral to administrator to determine consequences.

And who wants to scrap gum of the floors and clean the bathrooms with the janitors, for a whole semester or even a whole school year?! The janitors are not bad people, they just might need your help, if you break a rule.

If a third bullying and harassment issue happens, the consequence follows just like the second, but this time; there is a parent/student/school administrator conference and a resolution or a plan of action will be set up and put into place.

You can end bulling by telling a teacher or friend about what is happening. You can telling the bully to stop, but from advice from my mom " be loud so everyone can hear", just like a peacock flaunt his feathers to get attention of the females. You need to do that to a bully.

Be loud.

Don't be a victim!

Be the solution!

Things will wait

Things will have to wait today.
The trains need a track to run on.
Maybe 4 loops and 2 bridges ought to make the train conductor happy.

Things will have to wait today.
The train conductor wants to eat lunch inside of the train tracks.
Its a good thing that he can fit perfectly in the loops.

Wyatt's sacrament talk

Mom note: Wyatt was super super nervous about talking in church. His stuttering came back. There was young women who commented " wow Wyatt, I have never heard you talk so much"
______________________________________________________

I was asked to speak on "What can the youth today do to build their testimonies"

Let's imagine a house. Let's imagine this house on 4 acres of unexplored land, with animal, farming and water rights, over-looking a private lake complete with a private fishing dock and boat. This house is your dream house, complete with 12 foot ceilings, skylights in every room. Floor to ceiling picture windows on the main floors. Balconies on the second floor, for night star gazing. A spiral staircase leading up to the second floor, complete with an all crystal chandelier in the center of the entry way; shipped all the way from France. Fireplaces inside of the house and out. Travertine floors in the kitchen, solid oak cabinets, granite countertops. Real wood floors throughout the house, not those fake wood floors, like my mom has in her house. Biblioteca FYI A Library full floor to ceiling of books and reference books, no need for the internet. A music room, that the Boston Pops would be proud to play in. No neighbors to be seen or heard. And a guest house for when I am in the dog house, with my wife. Very private. --- OK so maybe that would be my dream house, not yours.

Say your general contractor came to you and said, 'we have to build the foundation on a rocky, unstable ground. He gave you no guarantee that the house would stand either. Would you let him do it?! Probably not. You would fire him.

The house would crumple and fall down during the first storm. We would not be safe.

Now say your general contractor came to you and said 'We need to build the foundation on nice flat level ground and we only have to cut down one tree.'

The house would be perfect, and withstand all elements of nature. It would not crumple and fall down. We would be safe.

• In Helaman chapter 5 verse12

King Mosiah tells us:

12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

A testimony is just like a foundation of a house. The foundation of a testimony is the knowledge that Heavenly Father lives and loves us; that Jesus Christ lives, that He is the Son of God, and that He carried out the infinite Atonement; that Joseph Smith is the prophet of God who was called to restore the gospel; that we are led by a living prophet today; and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Savior’s true Church on the earth. With this foundation, a testimony grows to include all principles of the gospel.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, We have a responsibility to obtain our own testimony. Our happiness in this life and throughout eternity depends largely on whether we are “valiant in the testimony of Jesus”

Alma teaches the following principles:

1.A desire to believe.

Alma taught: “If ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words” (Alma 32:27). We need to have a desire to believe in God the eternal Father, in His Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost. Just like it says in the 1st Article of Faith.

2. Testimony comes through the quiet influence of the Holy Ghost.

The gift of testimony usually comes as a quiet assurance, without spectacular displays of God’s power. Even Alma, who had been visited by an angel and had seen God sitting on His throne, needed to fast and pray so he could receive a testimony through the power of the Holy Ghost (see Alma 5:45–46; 36:8, 22). We are not going to see an angel like Alma, but we can feel Heavenly Fathers love for us.

3. Live gospel principles (John 7:17).

Testimonies will expand as we show our willingness to serve in the Church. As we keep the commandments. As we help and lift others, our testimony continues to grow. As we pray and fast, study the scriptures, attend Church meetings, and hear others share their testimonies.

4.Your testimony will increase as you share it.

Matthew Chapter 5 verse 15 & 16 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Do not wait for your testimony to be fully developed before you share it. Part of a testimony’s development comes when it is shared.

It also helps to have a mom who knows scripture mastery, especially when your older brother cannot find the Birth of Christ, in Luke.

President Gordon B. Hinckley, has said: “Let us be a happy people. The Lord’s plan is a plan of happiness.” 2 Let us follow the prophet, and let us have happy lives. This time of your life is exciting—it should be fun. Activity in the Church can help you truly enjoy your youth.

Have the courage to follow what you feel in your heart. Hold on to those feelings and enlarge them. It is vital that you build a testimony and have faith that Jesus Christ is your Savior and your Redeemer. It is vital that you understand that He, out of perfect love, atoned for you."

I challenge you to believe in the Savior, listen to the quite whisperings of the Holy Ghost, live all of the commandments; even those in the Strengthen of the Youth and when it is not cool, and Share Share Share your testimony to everyone you met. I know that these steps, your testimony will strong and strengthen and withstand "the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo"

Moroni gives us a great promise in the last chapter in the Book of Mormon. Chapter 10 verse 4.

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen

This morning

So I took the boys to school. Before we even left. Jace asked me " mom arent you going to blow dry your hair?"
I said "no" I don't have time to.
Jace "aw OK. Just don't say hi to anyone or talk to anyone"

Do you think me not being put together all of the way bugged him? Or it is just because we make fun of 'those mom' who look like they just rolled out bed and found the first things to put on, just to  take the kids to school or ,those mom 'who wear their PJS to school or the sweaty gym clothes to school?

I just might have to make a point either to look like those moms more often or a point to be put together ; just to take the boys to school
