Fun Trip to Boise Idaho!

We went to dinner at a fun Mexican restaurant, but having all the kids with us...didn't make it so much fun! Haha! :)

We told our server that we were celebrating because Kacie was getting her Peritoneal Catheter out in the morning! She was so sweet because she brought Kacie out a huge ice cream sundae to congratulate her! Tammy deserved it too because she is such an amazing mom! She has been with Kacie every step of the way!

The server wouldn't take a picture without doing a silly face...so everyone joined her!

Grandma Sue got a Suite at the Ameritel Inn in Boise Idaho, so we could help Kacie celebrate getting her Peritoneal Catheter out! The suite was so nice...it had a full kitchen, a living room and two bedrooms. We had so much fun, going to dinner, swimming and watching movies together! Kacie we are so glad that you are free of dialysis! You go GIRL!!!

Transferring the cocoons

Today we (EJ) transferred the cocoons out of the jars to a butterfly cage, so when they transform they will be in an enclosure. There is paper at the top of the jar to help transfer the cocoons, however our caterpillars ate through most of the paper. So, it was tricky when EJ was moving them.
The one caterpillar that fell to the bottom of the jar, EJ picked it up and moved it to the bottom of the cage. When he picked it up it started wiggling like crazy. Hopefully it will still become a butterfly. I am just so happy EJ was here to help us move them. I was too freaked out to move them by myself. I probably would have dropped that one cocoon, if it would have started wiggling in my fingers.

When they start to come out of their cocoons, we are suppose to buy Carnations and put sugar water on the flowers to help keep the butterflies alive. Then we can release them when they get bigger and the weather is warm enough. For now we just watch and wait for them to become BUTTERFLIES!

They are all in Cocoons!

On the 10th day, all 10 caterpillars were in cocoons! One of the cocoons fell to the bottom of the jar, hopefully it will be OK. I think it's interesting that the caterpillars that went into cocoons upstairs the day it was hot are at an angle. The ones that did it downstairs are hanging down straight. I don't know if the temperature has anything to do with that or not. Does anyone know?

"Schools out for the Summer!"

This is the latest our kids have had school since we moved here 8 years ago. They built a new High School last year and so we didn't start school until September which pushed getting out of school later this spring. I like this schedule because the weather is finally nice for the kids to play outside. I wish we could have this schedule every year, but this fall we start school the end of August.
Our neighbor had a water party after school. The kids thought it was so cool that they have a sprinkler system hooked up to the top of their trampoline! They had a blast!

The boys got invited to a slip-n-slide party at another neighbors house. So, all the kids had FUN with their friends!

I thought this was cute of the boys walking home when it was over carrying their water guns! Thanks for a fun day!

Caterpillars on the 9th day!

Almost all the caterpillars are hanging upside down in a "J" shape except for one. It's still crawling around the top of the jar. The jar on the right has one cocoon and the jar on the left has two. They are at an angle.

3 Cocoons

Last night there was a total of 3 cocoons and the rest were getting ready to hang upside down in the "J" shape. You can see the cocoon at an angle in the jar on the right. It has been so hot that we moved the caterpillars downstairs to Mckinley's room. I think they like it better! (I am spending way too much time watching these caterpillars!) HaHa!

We have our 1st Cacoon!

The caterpillars are moving their way to the top of their jars. We noticed this afternoon that we have our 1st Cocoon! At the end of the day 3 of the caterpillars were in cocoons. It's so fascinating to watch them change.

Caterpillars on the 6th day!

There are 5 caterpillars in each jar. They just keep getting bigger and kind of freaky looking! The paper said when they hang upside down in a "J" shape they are getting ready to turn into a cacoon. We are just suppose to leave them alone and they will do their thing.

Some of the gray caterpillars are still making their way to the top of the jar.

The 3rd day we had our Caterpillars

The caterpillars didn't look very different on the 2nd day so I didn't take a picture, but this morning when I woke up they were SO much bigger!

We don't have to feed the caterpillars, they just eat the stuff off the bottom of the jar!
