Week 55
We had a pretty low-key week overall. I enjoyed my last week of part-time work. Yes, you heard me right. My company has a pretty amazing maternity leave and I decided that after working 6+ years for them, I deserve that benefit at the full-time pay. So I bumped my hours back up to full-time to take full advantage of it. I counted, and if the baby is full-term I have 23 more Mondays of work. I think I can do that. What is the maternity leave? Three full months fully paid with an optional 4th month using personal time off. My energy level is so much better now so it should all be fine. I thoroughly enjoyed my 10 weeks of part-time though. It was much needed.
Saturday evening we headed up to Eric's Aunt Dodie's home in Loveland. His cousin's two girls were there as well. Dodie made us an excellent dinner with tons of locally grown veggies - we love that - and a stuffing that she cooked inside a pumpkin. Yum! After dinner the two girls and I carved pumpkins. I have wanted to carve a pumpkin so bad this year so was thrilled when Dodie told us that was on the agenda. Here are the two girls (Sarah and Paige) with all three pumpkins...
And here is a close-up of my pumpkin...
I really was quite proud of myself. I usually do the triangle eyes and standard jack-o-lantern jagged smile. I changed it up and think it turned out cute. And those girls were far more clever than I ever was at that age. Their pumpkins turned out so good.
I was in charge of dessert and once I knew the girls were coming, I wanted to do something festive. I made some chocolate cupcakes (cause a dessert is only a dessert if it is chocolate) and decorated them like spiders. They turned out cute. Completely forgot to take a picture. Lame.
Thanks Aunt Dodie for having us over and carving pumpkins. It was a super evening!

Week 54
My Mom and step-Dad came for a visit this past week. We had a great time showing them Denver, eating good food, relaxing, shopping, working on a puzzle and completing a sewing project. They sure loved "living" downtown for a few days. And we loved playing host! Thanks for taking the time to come visit us!!
Me, cooking. Man, I look like I've eaten too much. I promise, its the baby, not me. The horizontal stripes don't help either.
We made them our homemade pizza. I don't think they were used to eating pizza with spinach, mushrooms, onions and well nutritious things on it. ;)
We also hit our favorite Mexican restaurant one evening. That made up for the nutritious pizza.
Eric loves when people sit in our "library"...
Buffalo Sabres season home opener occurred while they were here. Eric told me that his Mom used to decorate for the home opener. I obliged and went and got balloons. Lu, is it true? Did you really decorate?
Speaking of Eric's Mom, she crocheted this beautiful blanket for our soon to be baby. I absolutely love it!
16 week doc appointment today. Everything looks good. It sure is nice being married to a red-head. The nurses and doctor remember Eric every single time we go to the office. I just look like any other person but Eric has a distinct look and they always remember him. And they treat us better for it. Its so weird, and nice! We asked for another ultrasound today just to see how the baby looks and the doc didn't even hesitate. He will have to come to every appointment with me now!
Final item of our week was the annual Fans on the Field race. We once again were able to sit in the dugout at Coors Field and feel really cool being on the field. The event was a 10k. I did maybe 3 miles and Eric finished the whole thing. If you recall, I kicked Eric's booty last year so its only fair. Next year, I intend to kick his booty again.
Thanks again for coming to Denver Mom!!

Week 53
I decided to keep counting weeks. I like the fact that I can print my blog and have a journal of some of our happenings each week. Its a good way to keep track of time.
This past week I headed to Arizona for a work conference and stayed an extra day to see some family. Its always good to see everyone but I did not enjoy that 107 degree weather one bit. Not one bit. I did okay the first day but by the second day I was over it. Granted in another few months I will be freezing and they will be in the 70s. I'll learn to time my visits better. :)
But I did get to see all these munchkins including new baby Zack (3 months old now). What a bunch of cuties!
I crashed Friday night at Katie's. We saw a movie and then hit one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, Tia Rosa's and IKEA on Saturday. Thanks for hanging out Katie!
I tell ya what... these pregnancy hormones are out of control. No one told me that you can get really crabby and irritable from them. No one told me that you can get nasal congestion from them. No one told me that everything you eat gives you gas. No one told me that my already thick hair will get even thicker.
I am beyond thankful that we did not get pregnant any earlier in our marriage. How do newlyweds deal with adjusting to marriage and then put pregnancy hormones on top of it? Or maybe I'm just one of the unlucky ones who feels irritable?? I hear the irritability will mostly go away in the next couple weeks. Let's hope. I feel like I'm constantly apologizing to Eric for stupid things I say or do. My brain knows I shouldn't behave this way but it all comes out anyway. It ain't fun. I think I've figured out why Eric decided to take up shooting again. I kid, I kid.
