D.C. Police Chief Lanier has an "All Hands on Deck" crime-fighting initiative. It sounds like something out of Moby Dick or The Titanic. Take your pick. I do know that someone is playing a numbers game. You put all the police on the streets and you start arresting people. But who is getting arrested and for what? Are these folks being caught as they crime? Parole problem types? Juveniles staying out late? Domestic wife boppers? Jaywalkers? 300 more arrests made in DC. Are 299 white people? Please explain the numbers so I'll know how safe the DC streets really are.
Tornado in Brooklyn? It must have been a Spike Lee Joint. Was there a tornado in Crooklyn?

Movies:
If you see anyone going into the movie theater to see "Daddy Day Camp" call Homeland Security. I never cared for Cuba Gooding Jr but this makes me want to send the guy to serious confession. Is this what Boycott Cuba means? Is Cuba broke? Couldn't his agent find him a job with a reality show - "Dancing with the Fools" or something? OK, if you have kids and they pull your into the movie theater - shoutout that you're going in for the AC. Respect yourself on a hot day.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif)introduced a resolution urging President Bush to boycott the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Ah - you thought it was going to be another toy or food product.
Waters want to put pressure on China to change their position on Sudan. Right now China is a big supporter of Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. Much of Sudan's oil goes to China.
$4 billion in oil sales last year. Meanwhile, Darfur suffers. A serious humanitarian crisis and the world is silent and afraid to act. Olympic boycotts too often simply punish athletes.

So I went down to The Neurology Center and had an EEG. That's an electroencephalogram.
It's painless. It tracks the electrical activity produced by the brain. It's used to identify a wide variety of neurological problems. They hooked about 21 electrodes to my head and one each to my hands. I looked cute. The entire test only takes about 30 minutes. The rest of the time is spent putting the electrodes on your head. Boy, did I feel comfortable. I must have went to sleep during the test. Afterwards I felt as if I had experience a massage. I need to get the numbers for those electrodes. Well, more tests next week.

Hey- checkout the profile of "Big" Dan Moldea in the Washington Post today. Front page Style section. "Morals of a Muckraker" by Howard Kurtz. Back in the early 1980s Dan and I ran around trying to organize writers. Those were the early days of the National Writers Union. Moldea was president of Washington Independent Writers (WIW). Ah - do you remember the American Writer's Congress? Those were the days when writers ate meat and folks said we wouldn't live long.
So how do you feel now that Bonds has broken Aaron's record? It's the day after and you wonder why you made love to the person sleeping next to you. What made you do it? Were you attracted to the steroids? Maybe the person is telling the truth but the lies are only for your ears. What should you do now? Hide the evidence? Who has the ball? Ball parks are hotel rooms.

Congrats to Yao Ming who married Ye Li at the Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai yesterday.
I'm still waiting for Karzai outfits to be the next clothing hit. Great outfits for poets who take a little Rumi in their cups.
Poor Cory Booker in NewArk. It's impossible for a city mayor to reduce crime and violence without changing the entire culture of a city. Let's ask a key question - who is giving birth to gangsters? Every criminal is someone's child. One could focus on physical and verbal abuse of young black children. The problem in our society right now is with adults - not children. It's adults I hear everyday calling their own children MFs. Geez, what's a teacher to do? Oh and these kids have their fathers and mothers right there - so let's not go single parent solo. Should we blame the victim? A difficult question to answer. But let's ask all parents - do you know where your children are at 2 AM in the morning? If you don't - you can look for trouble to find them. We are a people in need of new values. Too much sex and not enough love? A desire for nothing but money and respect? Dark days ahead and more horror stories. What's a Booker to do? Richard Wright's Bigger still Lives. Sometimes I feel like Mary without a head. Please check the furnace - it's the fire this time. Black people turning into ashes. It wasn't always this way.

My son has his summer league basketball playoff game today. Widener goes into the playoffs with a 7-3 record. Go Ny! Regular season just a few months away. Hopefully Widener can return to the NCAA tournament for the 3rd year in a row.
Nationals lost to the Giants. I hope these guys don't lose about 4 or 5 in a row.

Barack Obama will be the speaker at the 140th annual Howard University Convocation.
That date is September 28th. Will Obama give an important speech? Will he talk about race because he's in a race? Will his topic be education? I suggest the guy talk about poverty and remind the black middle class about what it should be doing. He should encourage a new generation of Howard students to become leaders. There is a need to move beyond Hip Hop.
How long have we've been listening to the same beat? Will Obama beat a drum or just play the same old horn? HU another campaign stop? Another Democatic Convention speech? Getting down with the brothers and sisters? Who will Sen. Clinton have to hug now? Where is my Sammy Davis suit with the Nehru collar?
