Burn midnight oil FTW!

Just updated this blogging app and realised I haven't been blogging in a long long time. Time just flies past in Beijing, especially now that it's winter and the sun sets so early :/ just had my first ever exam in Beijing, and it didn't go too well. Really takes time to adapt to the teaching style and life here in general. And heh, winter isn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be in warm sunny Singapore. It's really troublesome to bundle up like a rice dumpling only to take it all off in the warm classroom. And its really wet and cold when it rains and snows, almost impossible to go out! We missed our favorite aerobics class cos of that :( k I just wanted to share how hard I'm mugging now (but I'm still blogging anyway -.-) and I hope I can stay awake till late! Mug ahhhh.

From Beijing!

Haven't been blogging for long! Vpn seems a bit shaky here, sometimes it doesn't work. Here the ISP is really smart. Now I'm in lesson but its so boring i have to do smth else. Haha. So i Whatsapp ed my mum and told her about all the new cooking skills I've learnt from the girls. Then she told me to pay attention in class-.-

I took that photo in the condo garden! Really nice surroundings right. Always feel so happy when i reach home. I still miss my home though. Now I can appreciate what mum has always been doing for me. In Singapore, all I had to do was study. I didn't have to make my own meals, do my own laundry, clean the house, wash the dishes, and generally take care of all aspects of the house, like keep warm water always available and make sure the toilet doesn't clog. I think coming here has made me more independent. I am not afraid of washing the toilet bowl anymore! In fact I am kind of addicted to doing housework Cos its so satisfying to see a clean house :D oh yay lesson over we are going to kfc!!

Ah so all I needed was to figure out a way to set up school Vpn on my tablet then can use Facebook blogspot all these alr. Yayy! These few days the weather's quite nice, it can even go under 20C at night. How awesome. I had imagined a lot of phlegm spitting and poop everywhere, but I didn't see much of those. I did witness a kid urinating at the doorstep of a shopping mall. Haha. But I was pretty shocked when i found out that many public toilets here do not have locks! How awkward. And v smelly for some reason. Oh well. Guess I'll get used to it sooner or later. Enjoying my tour now! If only school didn't start so soon :/

I'm the only fyp student left in lab now boo. And it's not because im busy doing stuff ( haha ya i know if i were busy working i wouldn't have the luxury of blogging), im waiting for my 2 strands of cDNA to finish synthesizing to build my cDNA library. It sounded so easy when they taught it back in JC, but in reality it costs like a few thousands for the kits required and pretty time consuming. I feel quite bad for spending so much on my project but i really don't get much results :( I realise it's quite peaceful listening to emo songs now, its like i can feel the emotions better in this quiet office.

On a sidenote, I GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP :D So thankful and happy!!

Urghh blood.

Today I went for my checkup at sgh for the china visa. It was great to see so many of my friends again, after so long. All the tests done were pretty routine - eye, xray, ecg all those. But urghh although it didn't hurt while the nurse took my blood - she was pretty skillful I must say - I still went all wobbly at the sight of my blood flowing freely into the tubes. Don't like.

Then went for the scholarship interview. It was really v short! I estimate 5 mins, tops. guess they're not that interested in me :( still a good learning experience.

Now on my way back to lab! I've been ending really late these days, to catch up on the progress. Hope to get some results eventually! As far as I know nobody's going back to lab after the interview boohoo. I want to go out too!!!

Im always willing to believe in the good side of people, but sometimes I really don't understand why people do the things they do. We're all fellow human beings, but we can't understand each other in the same way. Guess this is why they say everyone is unique.

Long time no exercise!

Cos of my wisdom tooth I haven't exercised for quite some time, so I was v happy to go cycle at east coast! It was very nice weather too - it had rained the whole night and remained cooling the entire day. First time I didn't perspire and felt that the coconut drink was too cold. Haha. Oh and I watched the people fish at besom jetty for a while. I think there was a school of taman fish passing by - every time the line went in it came out with fish attached! How I wanted a rod to fish right there and then!

Can't sleep!

For some reason I was feeling really energetic last night and couldn't fall asleep long after I went to bed. The whole night I felt like I was in a light dream, half conscious half asleep. and now it's barely 7 and im wide awake?! What sorcery is this! Could it be the sudden overload of meat now that I can chew quite well! Ahaha. Not complaining. Still feels better than those few days post -op.

The interview with physician yesterday was rather scary. She was really serious when questioning and tested me a lot on tcm and its current status in Singapore and how I can change that. Big plans! But it was good experience la. I hope I'll make it thru, but if I don't, I'm still grateful for the chance to learn and improve my interview skills! K must stop thinking abt it its not helping my insomnia :(

why am i still feeling so lethargic! its not like i did a lot of work today. this meatless diet+medication combi is taking its toll on me. now i really dread taking out the teeth on the other side :( on a brighter note, i learnt how to extract rna today! all thanks to chun huat and yun shan being very patient with me and showing me what to do :D just love this lab and everyone in it, all v helpful ppl :) also haining always stays later than me to make sure everything runs well before leaving (just like today! i v bad i left earlier), so im really grateful to have him as a lab partner!

these days i keep feeling tired, not sure if its all the medication im taking for the tooth or just the lack of meat. alr anemic le still cannot eat meat, boo. so ive been sleeping really early these few nights and had a lot of weird dreams. too much time for sleep le-.- i dreamt we were being bombed yet all the survivals wanted to do was go swim..?!

today gonna go pluck some fresh plant for rna extraction. it all sounds v exciting! hope to get some nice spectrum for the plant!

Troll wisdom tooth. Sucks that it grew out horizontally and caused some problems so i had to get it out. so i went to the dentist today and got rid of both the top and bottom one on the left side. it was faster than i thought it would be! And the only thing that hurt was when the dentist injected anesthetics. Even then it wasn't too bad. It was just all the drilling and pulling that made me a little nervous. Now still biting on gauze and hope it'll stop bleeding soon. I'll prob need to do this again to get rid of the two on the right, sian.

Yest went for the EYS interview, i came out of it not knowing if i did well or if i managed to impress. Oh well. I did dress up for the interview though, and when i was standing at the traffic light and calling my mum, some guy kept smiling at me in a weird way and asked 'can i get to know u as a friend?' i went 'no' straightaway. He laughed and walked away. So I did look good huh *blush*. Then went to watch snow white with yixin at cineleisure orchard, and had the very overpriced shabu shabu for dinner. An enjoyable night!

Just checked my results, and my cgpa moved up by like what, 0.004? So i'm still 0.02 away from my first class, just like last sem-.- But now its especially antagonizing cos it puts me right at the edge of graduating with a first class or second upper! I get A for fyp, i get my first class :D but if i get A- for fyp, which is still a very good grade anyway, I graduate with second upper. O.M.G. Now fyp means a lot more to me. I have to work hard! Start on my thesis! note every fine detail, every method, every result! Urghh omg if only this sem's results pushed me all the way up or pulled me all the way down. I wouldn't have to pace around the edge like this. ARGH. okay rant done i should go slp and get ready for another day of chionging for fyp!

Today seems to be a productive day! Checked our SCX results and was pleased to see nice peaks :) Proceeded to run RP-HPLC, twice! and hope that we're able to isolate our three peptides of interest. There was a buffet at the lobby today so had a really good lunch. After lunch we had to wait to use the HPLC machine, so I went to swim. 2pm is a really good time to swim, because there were v little ppl and i felt so free swimming around in the large pool. next time i shall try to avoid swimming in the evenings. The pool was so crowded yest evening i had to be v careful not to kick ppl.

ooh the machine finished filling up one rack alr i can spot my stuff! I wan to go home and eat dinner chiong ahh~

i've been staring at this the whole day! we have like 4 litres of sample to evaporate omg so i spent the most of today reading mags reading articles and playing games on my tablet. well i guess its good to have a slack day once in a while.

the weather was so good for swimming when i came out, why must i be sick! its quite coincidental that four of us from the same lab got sore throat at the same time. maybe there's a bug going ard. yest i was feeling quite feverish (but still went to sing k i couldnt help it) and basically threw tantrums until i got tired. poor yixin. but i loved how he held me as i pressed my burning forehead to his cheek. it felt like home, like i'll always be safe and warm in his arms :) aiyo so mushy hor.

2nd week of FYP! had a really tiring day today. spent the whole afternoon extracting ONE KILOGRAMS of our herb and doing all the basic filtering. it was all very repetitive. i hope we manage to get smth out the first try -

ZOMG. today is the second time my bus had to swerve to avoid some idiot incoming vehicle overtaking another car. guess im lucky that nth happened!

-anyway ya. i cant imagine having to go thru the entire extraction process again so pls let it have results!~

cos of all the work we had to do, i only left school at 7pm. i wanted to go swim pretty badly so made my way there even though it closes at 8pm. managed to do a few laps before the lifeguard chased us all out the pool. then had to wait for so long to bathe. next time must leave lab earlier le.

super hungry now, cant wait to have dinner! bus pls move fast fast thankyouvmuch :)

I survived my TCM finals and the killer patho paper! Survived meaning barely alive but still, its over. Last paper in a few days, but really don't feel like studying. So every morning i wake up, determined to make the most of the day, only to spend the whole morning surfing random stuff and videos. Ahaha. In a week it'll be the start of FYP, i'm excited yet scared, dunno how it's gonna be like! Time just passes so fast~ Oh i watched battleship yest and wow taylor kitsch is damn handsome. Jcube was insanely full of people, we wanted to buy sweets from sticky and had to ask for the sweets at the payment counter cos it was impossible to reach over the human wall to grab the packets! It's cool that the west side has its own mega mall though. Now go je library no need scared nowhere to eat lunch le.

Last day of school at NTU! wahh. i can't believe it's been 3 years alr. I will miss the classroom, the canteens, the tea leaf egg at can 2 and of course friends that i've made over these years. Sobs. A bit sad now.

Free cone day

Happy day today! After lessons ended at 330pm (actually it didn't really end. we ponned viro lect) Minru and I went to the bird park for free ben and jerry's :) we thought we weren't going to make it cos the event ends at 5pm and we only reached after 4pm. But thankfully the queue was quite short and we managed to get 2 cones each! We totally looked like gluttons with one cone in each hand, and frantically licking everywhere cos the icecream was melting. Ahaha. One word of advice though: never eat chocolate right after having caramel. The caramel's so sweet that it makes the chocolate taste bitter. I'm not a fan of dark choc :/ At least the brownies in the choc make it taste a bit sweeter. The two cones made me so full, I was barely able to taste the lasagna I had for dinner. a bit wasted!

So I had a checkup done cos my gum has been hurting for a week. Can plainly see there's a hole right there in the gum behind my last molar. The dentist says it's the top wisdom teeth that's biting into the gum, and it prob got infected that's why its swollen. He also did an x-ray to check on the bottom teeth, and omg I have a horizontally impacted wisdom tooth hiding inside the gum. It'll never be able to erupt, so I have to remove the top tooth to stop the injury, and i think i have to remove the bottom one too cos its not growing normally. Feeling a bit scared at the thought of having to cut up my gum to get the teeth out :( OH and i have to say, taking a x-ray for the wisdom tooth IS DAMN FREAKIN TORTUROUS. The assistant inserted the film all the way in I have to stop myself from gagging and kept asking me to bite. I felt like the film was gonna cut thru my flesh la. Couldn't stop my tears from flowing. What to do. Waii my teeth refuse to grow properly. :( :(

This episode of Vampire Diaries was awesome. I especially loved the scene where Stefan saw Damon in pain and got all teary-eyed. I'm a sucker for brotherly love! The scene with Elena made my heart break too. So yup i'm currently in an emo mood and just wanna listen to sad love songs :( Haiya.

School is feeling like its optional nowadays, cos so many of my classmates don't attend classes anymore. Prob cos all the mods this sem can either be studied on our own or have video lectures. Is this how most final year students feel? Haha.

Grabbed 2 tickets to sydney when Scoot was having sales, even though its during my fyp period. Hope my supervisor won't mind! it's gonna be my first time to an ang moh country on my own, can't wait for exams to be over so I can start planning for it. How exciting~

Finally some time to play with dai and capture some of its cutest moments! This sem has been hectic since it started, how i envy those ppl who can slack thru their final sem! Last sem le, shall give it my best shot and hope everything turns out well :)
