update

ok, so one exam's done. I think it went fine. no surprises, and though my answer wasn't perfect, but in the larger scheme of things, I think it was ok.

As I was revising my modern European history, I thought this slide from the lecturer was quote inspiring:

“Men who are resolved to find a way for themselves will always find opportunities enough; and if they do not find them, they will make them.”
- Samuel Smiles (1812-1904) (what a name!)

(BTW, he's the author of the first books on the genre we call 'self-help' today.)

cool :)

p.s. I've uploaded Allison Iraheta's "I don't want to miss a thing". cool!

pre-exam season

It's officially less than 2 days to the start of exams, and less than 12 days to the finish line! wheee!

This sem looks promising, but I can't help but get that something-will-screw-up feeling at the back of my mind. I haven't really seen any B+s appearing for this sem, and well... I guess this is like the only semester which can really pull my CAP up before things start going downhill (again). hmmmm. The next semester looks poised to doing two hist mods (lvl 2000 and 3000), perhaps an archi GEM on art, and perhaps 2 lvl 2000 SE mods (yes, SE - that is, if Ministry approves my to-be-petitioned application).

Random ramblings again. Oh, and Lil and Anoop are out of American Idol! hmmmm. It's the Top 5 now!

i have THE job!

haha I'm happy to be back in school to be teaching! wheeee. although that mroe or less finishes my holidays as well. Oh well. I need to save $ for my post-SEP European city tour in Year 3, too! Hmmmm. maybe I should drop by all those Islamic cities with all the great monuments too. My lecturer has infected me with the need to go see those places!

I need a (rich) travelling companion then who wouldn't get bored of visiting museums, old things and old sites!

the judges have done it!

yup. So the American Idol judges have finally used the save. Well, I'm not sure if that's a good choice, since two will be kicked out next week. I think it was fairly obvious that Matt was not the guy that Cowell, and/or some other judge, was rooting for. A contentious call, that is.

hmmmm.

random

I just watched The Devil wears Prada. Hmmm. I think it's a good movie, in the sense that it's not your typical movie-fare of ugly-duckling-turned-swan, follow-your-heart kind of storyline (of course, these narratives can be found inside the movie. But it's not just that. Or more accurately, it's not just all that and repackaged differently.).

Some notable lines (almost, as far as my memory serves me):
1. "You did _____________ so that you could get ahead. You had a choice."
2. "I abandoned everything so that I could be/become _____________."

Hmmmm. I'm not for taking these lines at face value, but I think the insertion of these lines does prompt some thinking. hmmm.

random comment: American Idol

I've never been an American Idol fan. Somehow, I found myself watching this season - the eighth - and apparently, there's this new innovation of the Judges' save, where they can use it to 'save' any contestant facing elimination.

I'm not really sure why I'm really watching the tv program really - it takes up around 2.5hrs of my life per week (probably more, when u just camp in front of the lounge tv in order to prevent some idiot from watching some silly show on tv. how typically SGrean). Perhaps its the idols - they can really sing. Not like our rather miserable local talent shows. hmmm.

Anyway, they didn't use the judges' save again, as I anticipated. It was, IMHO, a good decision. I suppose nobody really likes to see anyone leaving (the stage), but face it, its a competition. Especially for the Judges' save thing, it could potentially be used to save the dream of another talented vocalist who could really carry the day, but face the prospect of elimination for whatever reason.

Maybe its some other reason that I'm watching the show now. I think I know the answer deep down in me somewhere, but I'm not really sure what. hmmmm.

ok, back to sleep.

p.s. It's a long weekend! I love public holidays... but i'm in my hostel :(
