Continuing the Legacy of Industry

Somehow I got roped into being on the Stake Float Committee for the 24th of July Parade in Ogden.  Luckily I wasn't the Chair.   My assignment was the people and their costumes.  TY and I did help wrap the trailer and set all the flowers, which was fun.  I think it turned out SUPER GREAT!  In fact, we won "people's choice" and made the front page of the Standard Examiner.  WooHoo!  The best part is, it's done.

My Bro on Mt Rainier

Ok, I think he's nuts.  But he's pretty cool.  My brother, Sean climbed Mt Rainier last week.  He looks pretty rugged in his mountain man beard.  He's been letting it grow since last August I think.  It's gone now.  He seemed more excited about shaving than actually climbing the mountain.  Way to go Seanboy, pretty incredible!!

Cache Valley Cup

Gman has been playing in Logan at the Cache Valley Cup.  They lost all their games, but got great experience and I was really proud of how he played.  He was goalie in the 2nd half of all the games and that's so much pressure.  I don't know how he felt, but I was STRESSED!  He loves it though.

The Garden

I love to see pictures of people's gardens.  I have been so happy with my garden boxes this year, that I'm actually out there checking for growth multiple times a day.  A watched pot never boils, I know.  But you can almost see the plants growing in front of your eyes.  I know, I get giddy about gardens.  So, here is my garden as of July 12.  (Kevin, the peacock pecked some plants down completely, but he's gone now)

Big Boy

Take a look at Gman's peas.  They were gigantic, and so much sweeter than the ones we got from the CSA.  Of course, he reminded me they were of the "Big Boy" variety.  Way to go, a green thumb already.

Summer Nightgown

The other night, MissC couldn't find anything cool to sleep in.  Her shorts were in the laundry, her cool nightgown was too small and she had to give it to MissL, and her heavy, wintery nightgown was too hot.  After she went to bed, I thought, "Surely I can make a summer nightgown."  I am pretty familiar with a sewing machine, but not for clothes.  I don't know a thing about sewing clothes.  So, I found a simple idea, googled "how to sew a ruffle" and had this done before midnight.  It was fun.  When she woke up it was hanging on her doorknob.  She brought it down and asked if it was for her.  She seemed to be very pleased with it and has worn it ever since.  She even wrote about it in her journal, mentioning the ribbons on the shoulders and that it was the first dress her mom ever made.  I am honored.

I Love a Parade!

Isn't that a song?            We had a good time visiting family this weekend.  We went to the Blanding Parade with Grandma and Grandpa, cousins, aunts and uncles.  Our kids love being with their cousins.   They are very lucky to have each other.

Summer of the Monkeys

Our first book of the summer for the Boys Book Club, Summer of the Monkeys was so great!  I loved it, and more importantly GMan loved it.  It took him a while to get into it, but at the end I didn't know how he finished it so fast.  He said, "It got so good, I never stopped reading."  His buddy who struggles with reading said it was his all time favorite book, beating out his old favorite, Call it Courage from last year.  At our book club party we made traps for monkeys out of popsicle sticks, twigs, clothes pins, rubber bands, twine, burlap and old Christmas candy for bait  Then, we had banana splits and played "monkey in the middle".  I also heard these two (they were the only ones of 11 boys who finished it) agreeing that it is a good book to HAVE rather than check out.  GMan says, "It's worth it!"  So, for these two boys it was a great success and hopefully the others are inspired as well.
